I grew up there in the 70s. Always had its problems, but that’s just awful. So sad! I remember the wide open green spaces and local woods and walks. There was a degree of community spirit. Now there’s just no civic pride or mutual respect. 😢
I used to live there in my 20s, bought a house down one of the last streets you walked down, it was always a rough place to live with a big drug problem, the council tried to regenerate the area 30 years ago and put new central heating in and external insulation in the council houses, people were nicking the boilers out of the houses and selling them in the local pub before the houses could be lived in, what a shame its gone more downhill.thanks for sharing, I now live in Ireland surrounded by nature that doesn't destroy and polute the planet.

I grow up right there in the 70s. The first derelict building was an Old Folks home. We used to have the odd service in the little Church, my old primary school is in front of it. I had friends that live in Ogden house. The waste ground at 10:30 in your video used to have a pub built on it called the Tempest. And at 12:00 over your right shoulder was the TFD centre, the estate youth club. I lived bang opposite over your left shoulder 64 Dorchester Crescent. And I believe at 12:52 you were looking at Gareth Gates old house. Still have family living there.
I grew up there, on the street 'Copgrove Road)' where you were chatting to the guy about the two horse buggies. Went to the Primary school opposite that now abandoned church. Left in 1984 and joined the RAF. It was bad then, it's worse now...
First time watching your video, great content! It's a shame what some people contribute to the planet by dumping it on the streets etc. Have to say this looks like the most depressing place on Earth.
Just found your channel matey, and I love what you're doing! I'm a fan of Peter Santanello's channel and you're doing a similar thing to him but around the UK... love it! Keep it up man 🙌🏼 you're doing it well
Awe loved seeing the horse what a different contrast. We used to have horses coming up to our back garden fence when we lived in Ramsbottom. I used to love feeding them carrots and stroking their beautiful faces. One day one of the horses walked passed our lounge window, it was one of those did that just happen moments. I phoned the police as I was concerned for his/her safety as at the end of our foot path was the road on the estate. The cops came out and rescued him/her. The local farmer, whose horse it was, had to errect new fencing due to it being vandalised.
The whole country is suffering the same other than London . Councels with no cash to keep places clean and tidy . People that dont give a toss . Gangs running free and the police powerless. kids drug dealing for the gangs . Who wants to live like that . This is why i left England and will never return . The guy who commented that you was lucky to get out without being attacked was 100% right .
I am dubious abt not enough money to keep it clean... Holmewood might be particularly bad but one can see how the quality of management of council estates varies from council to council. The estates do require more vigorous management than private estates.. But it's not impossible.. One estate I lived on started weekly clearance of abandoned junk items.. It made a lot of difference.. Two men and a van taking the crap to the council's dump.. Once they were on top of it.. It was five/ ten minutes minutes per week per estate. Regular consistency matters. Eg with graffiti.. . Keep on top of it, remove it quick and the amount of new /repeat graffiti soon diminishes..
I love your honest and no holds barred vlogs of not so great Britain. As stuartpeters9054 said in his comment; Britain has become a cesspit of a country. It's so true, I am from Ireland but we moved over here to Chester 11 years ago, it was a quiet, rather posh suburban area then but not anymore, it is now an area overrun with Eastern European Big Issue sellers preventing our genuine homeless folk from earning a bit of cash in order to feed themselves. Druggies, alcoholics, crime, graffiti, rubbish strewn in public areas and even on the streets there is thrown out old broken furniture and tellies. Just shocking and sad.
Hey there! I just wanted to drop a note to say that your channel truly deserves a lot more subscribers. Your content is absolutely fantastic, and the concept behind your channel, as well as its name, is simply brilliant. It's intriguing to ponder what these places you explore will be like in another 20 years. Imagine, those born in the 2020s will be in their 20s then. It'll be fascinating to see their perspective on our country at that time. Keep up the amazing work, and once again, love your channel! 😀👍
There was an effort to improve Holmewood in the 80s, block paving, green spaces etc..the lovely fences and gates you see at 1:17 were put up in the 80s, and cost, at the time , £90 per metre.. The locals were taking them down after they had been installed and selling them for scrap.. The Tempest pub used to stand on the ground at 11:14 until it was burnt down, youre standing in what was the car park.. The new housing just to the north of Holmewood was robbed every night and the newly laid lawns were devastated when the local travellers let their horses roam free and totally obliterated the new grass.
lol i lived there from 1969 till the late 90's .. i remember it well ..think they spent £260m+ rejuvinating the estate .. on the days they fitted the new boilers, that evening the house was suddenly burgled and the new boilers gone lol
i used to cut grass on a ride on for bradford council back in the 90s, even then we had to go in in two's. If you got a flat tyre you had to drag the machine out onto the road and stick together til the tyre company came out. Dozens of times you'd get offered cash for the ride on.

Born & Raised on this estate, 1980. Got out of there in early 2000's. Was all good as kids, looking back and seeing this is kind of soul crushing. Check the videos of Holmewood in the 60's 70s. Was a beautiful place, people queueing too buy the first houses here. Still many a fond memory aeventuring around the Tip, the Valley, Pit Hill and Blackcarr woods.
Only recently come across your channel. Really enjoying it. I moved to South Africa from the UK 17 years ago and it took a long time to get used to the litter here in the townships but I can honestly say i think this video is worse with litter than some of the townships here. It may be expensive here in Sevenoaks but every video I see of other parts of the country constantly assure me it’s worth it! So sad to see what’s become of the UK
9:10 - The estate was built in the ‘50s to house people from poorer housing areas and those cleared from land used for roads and to widen them. So the council values road transport.
not just trade waste. recently cost me £30 to have a mattress removed, the local councils have increased collection costs. a single black bag (other then whats in the bin) £10 fly tipping is only going to get worse.
@@colettemikaelson160And now councils have announced they are closing recycling centres because they can't afford to keep them open, it's going to get far far worse. With no deterrent and very little chance of being caught, this country is going to disappear under piles of rubbish.
Clearly fly tipping was just completely normalised a very long time ago & it's simply a race to the bottom. I wonder where the nearest municipal tip is
The ones nearest are closing down so I would look into the local councils policy and of them also wasting thousands on woke shite and ignoring their duties which exagerrated this and many other areas problems, its never ever one person or peoples fault ...
Travellers did the majority of what you see there. They arrived in summer 2023 and stayed till Christmas and moved on. Their vans tore up the grassed areas and they left an unbelievable amount of rubbish behind. They used to have a lot of fires on the park too.
I live on a ok housing estate and because the local council charge £30 per large item people dump stuff.Seem to see baby car seats in random places.Charity shops cant take them (i worked in one for a while) as they dont know if the seat has been in a car crash. We had a man come in with a kids seat which cost him over £300,and was nice. But my boss said "sorry cant take that".I think housing estates should bring in a roll off skip say once every 6 months, and allow one large item or a few smaller items per home. Not everyone has a car,so not able to get rid of stuff down the local dump.Maybe that would reduce the fly tipping.Just to add,i went down the dump our local dump, and the guy on the entrance tried to charge me £4 each bag.I said "bollox to that" to my dad, drove in and put stuff in the right bins. Then drove out.The guy didnt chase after us.
That first building was a nursing home of some kind that was derelict a while until it was demolished. They then decided to build the houses, but they never got round to finish them. As you can see you can't get upstairs as there is none. Holmewood has got quite bad in the past few years. There are some areas that are not bad
I lived there in the 60s and 70s and was fine, just a normal estate with mostly good people. I’d heard it was bad now, but I’m shocked by just how bad it is. Poverty is usually blamed but there’s no excuse for dumping rubbish, and destroying property like this. Some people defy explanation.

That church was St Luke's Catholic Church, opened (I think) in 1966 with huge windows to let the natural light in. It was allocated a nice large piece of land for a future parish hall and priest's house, in a spirit of unbridled optimism. The timing couldn't have been worse; the RC Church was in the process of "modernising" and that led to its implosion from sub-culture to weekend hobby, a process which is continuing. Those big windows had too many bricks put through them and so were bricked up -in red brick, contrasting with the original pink ones, and making the place look like a rough Glasgow pub!! The church could never support a priest, the future parish ended up being a small, sad crew of old people and it was shut down in 2007. Nobody was interested in buying it, and it finally got burned down last July.

The core problem with England is that for at least 25 years, the people who are best positioned to drive change and fix this country have decided to not care. The people aged 30 to 60 have zero interest in holding anyone accountable, zero interest in knowing who runs this country and how it should be run. Scared of confrontation, scared of the unknown, scared to be singled out. And the government have promoted this so that no one ever comes and throws them out. There's whole sections of this country that do not value the ground they are walking on, in any way. They either don't relate to it so it has no worth.
in the 90s i went to a posh wedding at Fitzwilliam college in Cambridge & at the reception i recognised the accent of a woman talking to her husband, so asked her if she was from home(Bradford) she said yes & her husband was a copper there, in the course of the conversation he told me that in Holmwood they sometimes burn the front door off so the council has to replace it with a larger one, the reason they burn it is so they can get their horses in the house, i took this with a pinch of salt until about 5 years later i ended up driving through Holmwood & saw a lad bringing his horse out of his house

Many years ago i lived not far from Holmewood with my ex- husband and ten day old baby girl . I was out walking my dog on a sunny Bank Holiday in May and the traffic on the main road was very busy. On my return home, a guy in a range rover in the traffic queue signalled me to step out in front of him. A lad on a motorbike was dashing past the queuing traffic, hit my dog injuring him so badly he had to be put to sleep and hitting myself causing serious injuries. It was a long recovery which included a leg amputation. The motorbike rider was the same age as myself (21) he was three times over the legal alcohol limit; had no drivers licence, no road tax and no insurance.....I'll give you three guesses where he lived at that time
Glad I live on the outskirts of the Bradford district, right on the boarder with Leeds. Not saying it's paradise around where I live as we have our share of poorly raised, anti-social c*nts, but generally speaking, the further away from the city centre you travel, the nicer the places get. The biggest problem now is that the type of people you find in and around the city centre are moving into the nicer areas and bringing their ways with them. Take from that what you will.

9:10 - The estate was built in the ‘50s to house people from poorer housing areas and those cleared from land used for roads and to widen them. So the council values road transport.
A lot of fly tipping has started because the councils charge so much for trade waste disposal.

I wish it were otherwise but I feel you've given the correct assessment of the real causes.
in the 90s i went to a posh wedding at Fitzwilliam college in Cambridge & at the reception i recognised the accent of a woman talking to her husband, so asked her if she was from home(Bradford) she said yes & her husband was a copper there, in the course of the conversation he told me that in Holmwood they sometimes burn the front door off so the council has to replace it with a larger one, the reason they burn it is so they can get their horses in the house, i took this with a pinch of salt until about 5 years later i ended up driving through Holmwood & saw a lad bringing his horse out of his house

It kind of feels like what has been happening to white boys in education that they are the worst performing and most unlikely to go on to higher education because they're getting left behind because of people wanting to help non-white English/ British for whatever reasons like maybe D.E.I etc but not sure as non-so called diverse areas are some of the worst I've ever seen though.
same where I live here outside of cumbernauld in scotland. I don’t see many young people or young family’s going out with my support worker in the morning or going walks up the hills with dad. it’s mostly old people and single mothers with thousands of children and the kids don’t really attend school much anymore. when I was in secondary I would see kids in there thousands walking to and from school on buses and in cafes. Now there only a small percent getting on and off the bus and the other half are roaming the streets not even in uniform.
Most young families and people I grew up with in my home village have all pished off to England, Ireland or New Zealand for better opportunities. there’s only two young adults in there twenties in my village that’s me and this other girl I’m friends with. most kids are indoors watching or making TikTok. THERE NOT GAMING THATS FOR SURE 😅
Govt has managed to transform places like this to a third world feel by importing those from such places.
Will get worse whichever of the two main parties get in next.
Exactly. The globalist alphabet NGAs run the show, and it's amazing how many people don't know it. Nor do they want to know.
I actually wish I'd chose the blue pill. 😪 😂
What shit are you talking about? I live in Bradford. Are you aware that this particular area is full of chavy white people?
The estate is about 90% British white working class.
England is bereft of any hope.
What went wrong? I'm not sure, but everything is f****d.
Looks like parts Hill Top West Bromwich or Tipton in the early 1980’s. That first place with no windows and doors would have been our playground as kids 😮 if you ever visit Birmingham areas heres a pub for you Hen & Chickens Hill Top B70. If you do I’ll give you my name incase it kicks off as the places was once a no go area run by the HTM 👍🏻 maybe even take me it might be safer 😂
The abscence of LAW AND ORDER....results in chaos and squalor.
Goverment 100% to blame.
