GUYS!!!! youre throwing away one of the best baits in the ocean along mexico!!! Bonita cut into Diamond strips is one of the best baits you can use for pretty much everything out there. Every charter I have been on they catch as many as we can and cut them into a diamond (2 triangles end to end so not a true diamond shape) with the skin on one side and just meat on the other. The heads up to the pectoral fins also make a good bait.
We should try that some time, we are going to try some different baits, We have some squid and other stuff like that, we were told it should help us catch some more tuna! :-)
I like bonito for sashimi, and grilled. The flavour is a bit stronger but if properly bleed out its very good just make sure you cut out the blood line on each fillet. Keep some pink in the centre for better flavour and texture when cooking. Don't overcook.
That may be a problem as we like our fish to not taste like fish haha, also I think we overcook all our fish haha. We are planning on trying one if we run out of fish haha :-)
To be absolutely Honest your channel is so refreshing you both epitomize good honest fresh vitalizing.....and and and......love it you are genuine role models in life
The real win is Bonito as bait, yellow fin and Dorado will go crazy for it. What maturity of seamanship you have demonstrate, your vessel too, from those early videos. I worried for you, but much less now. Your fearlessness for boat jobs is also commendable. You are champs!
Thanks heaps for the words of encouragement! We know we are not the most skilled sailors (or even close to it). But as long as we try our best and don't get down on ourselves we figure we can keep going long enough to learn how to sail :-)

Happy days; sunsets, fishing ( don’t panic 😂), swimming with those huge amazing whale sharks and party time in Mexico, thanks for sharing and keep on smiling 💖
You two have been such an inspiration. I have been watching from the very beginning. It is super motivating watching what you have accomplished. Keep it up! By the way. You are becoming the accomplished fisherman. Something I know nothing about. Maybe you could do a little segment on what happens after your catch. How do you kill it? How do you filet it? Stuff like that
Thanks heaps for the kind words :-) We are getting better at fishing, but we are a long way from knowing what we are doing. We plan to make a fishing video when we know a bit more, still trying a bunch of new stuff :-)
Another comment or two from our last exchange. You really should also checkout On Board Lifestyle aka SV Basik and Sailing Calico Skies! On a safety topic…. I noticed that your aft deck seems quite cluttered. There are multiple trip hazards, especially where you have to work when boarding a fish. You should wear your inflatable PFD at all times when working there. When sailing your boat speed seems to easily exceed 5kts . If you fall overboard it will take quite a while to stop the boat, turn around and pick up the swimmer. This I think a PFD is a must. I would not “clip in” because if you fall and are being dragged you may drown before rescue can be done. Maybe also put a personal EPIRB on each vest so that the boat can locate the swimmer…. Especially if there are swells or darkness or both. Just a constructive thought.
We watch a bit of OBL and a little bit of Calico. We are working on getting things cleaned up a bit better, we are still mid refit so its hard to find a place for everything but we still need to do better, We will be putting up some lines on the back deck, for now when we do clip in its tight enough that it doesn't let you fall off, but its hard to get anything done like that. We do have personal EPIRB in the life jackets but we hope to not use them haha, Thanks for the tips! they really help us get better as we go :-)
Cmon 😛 You have to try a bonito at least once, I recommend soaking skinless filets in some milk for half an hour or so (in the fridge) to get rid of the fishy taste, good luck

Hey guys look into a block sealer for your engines. It could possibly seal the block and gasket so that you can continue to use your engine as long as there is no severe damage. And it's not expensive.. in fact it may be a good idea to keep a back up supply for both your engines in case this happens in the future. Just sayin. 😊
