    GUYS!!!! youre throwing away one of the best baits in the ocean along mexico!!! Bonita cut into Diamond strips is one of the best baits you can use for pretty much everything out there. Every charter I have been on they catch as many as we can and cut them into a diamond (2 triangles end to end so not a true diamond shape) with the skin on one side and just meat on the other. The heads up to the pectoral fins also make a good bait.

    • @sailing.supernova
      @sailing.supernova  11 місяців тому +1

      We should try that some time, we are going to try some different baits, We have some squid and other stuff like that, we were told it should help us catch some more tuna! :-)

    I like bonito for sashimi, and grilled. The flavour is a bit stronger but if properly bleed out its very good just make sure you cut out the blood line on each fillet. Keep some pink in the centre for better flavour and texture when cooking. Don't overcook.

    • @sailing.supernova
      @sailing.supernova  11 місяців тому +1

      That may be a problem as we like our fish to not taste like fish haha, also I think we overcook all our fish haha.

    The real win is Bonito as bait, yellow fin and Dorado will go crazy for it. What maturity of seamanship you have demonstrate, your vessel too, from those early videos. I worried for you, but much less now. Your fearlessness for boat jobs is also commendable. You are champs!

    Another comment or two from our last exchange.
    You really should also checkout On Board Lifestyle aka SV Basik and Sailing Calico Skies!
    On a safety topic…. I noticed that your aft deck seems quite cluttered. There are multiple trip hazards, especially where you have to work when boarding a fish. You should wear your inflatable PFD at all times when working there. When sailing your boat speed seems to easily exceed 5kts . If you fall overboard it will take quite a while to stop the boat, turn around and pick up the swimmer. This I think a PFD is a must. I would not “clip in” because if you fall and are being dragged you may drown before rescue can be done. Maybe also put a personal EPIRB on each vest so that the boat can locate the swimmer…. Especially if there are swells or darkness or both. Just a constructive thought.

    • @sailing.supernova
      @sailing.supernova  11 місяців тому +4

      We watch a bit of OBL and a little bit of Calico.
      We are working on getting things cleaned up a bit better, we are still mid refit so its hard to find a place for everything but we still need to do better, We will be putting up some lines on the back deck, for now when we do clip in its tight enough that it doesn't let you fall off, but its hard to get anything done like that.
      We do have personal EPIRB in the life jackets but we hope to not use them haha,
      Thanks for the tips! they really help us get better as we go :-)

    @aussiejeroen 11 місяців тому +3

    Hey guys look into a block sealer for your engines. It could possibly seal the block and gasket so that you can continue to use your engine as long as there is no severe damage. And it's not expensive.. in fact it may be a good idea to keep a back up supply for both your engines in case this happens in the future. Just sayin. 😊

    Try baiting a hook with a strip of fish ... You will probably attract a wider range of fish and possibly larger ones.
    Dead flying fish that land on deck can also be used as hook bait and Mahi Mahi/Dorados etc go after them .

    Hey, do you guys like the Quasar? I know you've had your share of mechanical issues, but that's the nature of an older boat...more in terms of how its setup and designed mechanically and things...was the design thought out, I guess is what im asking. Are things easily accessible, etc? Hypothetically, if I were to be making an offer on one(super old), what should I look out for?

    • @sailing.supernova
      @sailing.supernova  11 місяців тому

      In short we love it, love the sail plan (we are new sailors and its very easy to sail), it could use more storage space but the 1988 Quasar and up are about 4 feet wider then are boat which would be really nice to have. We have found that the Quasars are all very different from each other so you really can get a good idea of what can work on these boats.

      We really don't want to catch them, we have been given some tips on different bait that we can use to catch different fish.
      We are trying to fix them haha, its a different problem each time!

    Para lo que hacéis, valdría más que dejarais de pescar. Me pone enfermo lo que hacéis con los bonitos. Voy a dejar este canal.

      Lamento que no te haya gustado la pesca. Nos aseguramos de dejar pescar lo más rápido que podamos. Hemos visto a todos los peces que hemos dejado ir nadando.
      Lamentamos perderte y esperamos que puedas encontrar un canal de navegación divertido para ver. :-)

    Not a fan of you guys injuring all those fish, try spear fishing for crips sake.

      We try and get them back in the water as fast as we can, plus we have taken the barbs off our hooks. Maybe we should have stopped fishing when we were only catching the fish that we don't like to eat.
      We have some spearguns on the boat and will be using them very shortly :-)
      Thanks for your comment and we will try and do better :-)

      The oceans are in trouble and we are in the midst of the sixth mass extinction lady, you haven't even heard me be a downer yet. The fish do get injured and some even die from their injuries, the last thing we need is more death and destruction of our ecosystems. I suggest you research Guy MC Pherson and his work. With all that said the dead or injured fish jus become food for other organisms and that's fine but It's their suffering until death that bothers me.@@krisnace
