Say what you will, but as an 18 year old, hearing this for the first time!..My head nearly exploded. It may make you feel uncomfortable, but for those of us needing an outlet for existential angst, they absolutely did the trick for me. I'm 50 now, and still stunned by it!
“What she said.. I smoke because I’m hoping for an early death , and I need to cling to something…” Oh be still my 15 year old heart. I’m 49 now, and still thinks that’s brilliant. I have since long stopped smoking.
@@Voxac100b agreed! I always first notice Marr’s amazing playing in like every song... I am disappointed that I am 22 years old and a HUGE The Smiths fan; I’ll never be able to perform live :(

mental the smiths fell out, and couldnt agree over MONEY, the messages the smiths give out, positive vibes, the freedom of the music, and morrissey cant get over that fall out, its only money though i suppose "money changes everything"
Anyone know where this was filmed/recorded? In 1985, the NME gave away a free EP with a version of 'What She Said' recorded live in Oxford in March of that year - but this isn't it.
'What she said was not for the job or lover that she never had' Morrisey gabbles a bit when he can't make the words fit. He just does it in a semi-comical way, so we all love it even more. Same as his trademark hipster-yodeling.

The king
The lyrics are devastating. Pure anguish and alienation.
My favorite band of all time.
this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen

i'm glad you found something else to cling to. lucky unfortunate one.
Nearly 49… and I haven‘t. And I need to cling to something.
i'm 15 now and think it's brilliant. i don't smoke though, i think it's gross

Aron Le Baron I hear ya! Mikey nails it!
Fantastic drumming from Mike you have to listen to a smiths track at least 4 times to.listen to the marvellous contribution each member made.

Mike Joyce is also tremendous on bigmouth and cemetery gates
Well said he was no stooge and very much part of the Smiths sound
To me this is one of the most intense rock songs ever made, even compared to all these hard rock and metal bands
Johnny is crankin on this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is this the version used on Rank? Still amazing after all these years.
Johnny Marr is a god
O my goodness what a fantastic track
Marr on the guitar is epic
The smiths rocked
Fine stuff
Seriously Morrissey was too much for Morrissey himself too
Great song!
I’d kill to get JM’s sound
Mike Joyceeee
Bleh!-Morrissey
Oh I agree, but...this music....In my brain it's pre-Bleh...just so compartmentalising, I can still appreciate it :)
@@oconnellpyeah, I deal with it the same way.
