    This is definitely one of the better low budget dice tower/tray builds that I’ve seen! Easy to personalize and the ability to store together as a basic rectangle instead of a fixed L shape makes storage and traveling so much easier!

    Love it. To be honest, I probably would brag about this a little bit.

      Haha thanks. My opinion has greatly changed after using the tower for a while. I'm much happier with it. In the video I was comparing to one my friend made. His looks amazing. Mine could be made pretty with minimal work, but I have kind of become accustomed to the slightly shabby look, it's grown on me.

    If you want to do it fancy when you glue it apply pressure with clamps. The glue will squeeze out, but what's left over will bind stronger. And it'll look a little better.

      Thanks for the reply!
      I think the video was meant I to inspire people with confidence they could build one, and it does. All the basic principles were there and completely scalable. Build it for $15 or build it for $150... The functionality doesn't change, you nailed that.
      I'm a hobby grade woodworker so i appreciate the build.
      If you were to change some funtions (do it again) what would you do? Not necessarily fit and finish but features.
      Examples: better storage for the dice. Felt for the bumpers to quiet it. A latch to keep things in place. Positions of the magnets.
      Or
      Wish list items like having a hinge that allows it to just quickly rotate down and store the dice inside instead of pulling it apart?
      That kinda thing.
      Basically I'm trying to use your idea as a launching point to make it out of nice wood I have on hand (after the holiday). I can make wood things but this needs to perform a specific funtion. You have built and used it so you would be the perfect person to ask. :)

    • @FitzTheGame
      @FitzTheGame  4 роки тому

      @@meboyotube I attempted an update to the design a few months ago(didn't really have the time to make a video or even finish the idea). I tried having hinged sides that would fold away, with a magnetic removable front and a magnetic base. Tired to make it a little more travel friendly. The idea was sound but didn't really have the time to dedicate to it to figure it out proper. I'll probably revisit the idea again in the not too distant future.
      If I were to change this design; I'd go with a felt or foam liner inside the tower, for noise reduction, and use proper wood glue, not the fast drying hot glue lol.
      The design was burrowed from a friend/player of mine. His turned out really well, he took the proper time and used proper supplies(glue).

    • @meboyotube
      @meboyotube 4 роки тому +1

      @@FitzTheGame thank you for the information! I'm going to think a little more about the hinges. Maybe magnets are the way to go instead.

    A little less wood glue and instead of hot wood glue, try CA glue (super glue) with the activater. It will be much prettier in the end and probably fit together better as the hot wood glue is probably causing that issue. Wood glue is very strong when it dries. With those craft pieces of wood, a little goes a LONG way. Dab it on and spread it with your finger and glue brush into a thin layer. The CA glue (and activater) will help it seal quickly. It will give you a much cleaner look.

    Hi there. What did you use to cut the wood pieces? Are these too thick for an exact-o knife? I don't have proper tools

    • @FitzTheGame
      @FitzTheGame  3 роки тому +2

      I actually purchased a pack of wood from the dollarama in Canada. They are the size of the side and back pieces of the tower, and same for the base of the tray.
      I think an exact o knife would take a lot to get through the wood, but I have used a dollar store hack saw to cut through the wood. It’s not what the saw is meant for but it does the trick.

  • @biancabrooks280

    I think if you just shave off like an eighth of an inch at the top, just a wee bit, and maybe sand the corners, it’d be able to fit into the tray a little easier.
    Also, I’d put some felt on the baffles, so that it would roll a little quieter. A friend got a really nice dice tower, but he can’t always use it since it’s so loud.

    What if you don't have a glue gun or whatever it's called?

    • @FitzTheGame
      @FitzTheGame  4 роки тому +1

      You can also use wood glue. Wood glue takes a lot linger to dry, but it's supposed to bond the wood together better than the woods own grain. Wood glue would make for a nicer end product as well. The drying time would allow for cleaning up of the excess glue, unlike the hot glue that cools in seconds.

    You don't need dice towers unless you cheat. If you cheat, you should not be allowed to play. If you're in a game that can be won, you're just playing DnD, which is a boardgame.

    • @FitzTheGame
      @FitzTheGame  Рік тому

      Not sure I follow your logic. How is using a dice tower cheating? Where does winning come into it? If you consider D&D a board game thats fine, but I think it’s much more than that.

    • @Belzediel
      @Belzediel Рік тому

      @@FitzTheGame I didn't say using a dice tower is cheating.
      Rolling a die is randomised whether you have a tower or not. Ergo, the sole purpose of a tower is to prevent a player from claiming a result different from the one rolled. This would generally be seen as cheating. As such the only people on the planet who would have cause to own a tower would be people who do cheat and wish to rule out that variety of cheating.
      Thus - you only need a tower if you cheat.
      The only reason to claim a result different from the one rolled is to create an outcome different from the one dictated by the ruleset. Changing the result benficially isn't an issue, so the issue is to benefit one player against the others. A person has little reason to do so unless they believe that they can WIN the game. If you have players that think you can win an RPG, then there are either serious screw ups happening somewhere, or, more likely, you're playing Dungeons and Dragons, an absurdly comercialised mockery which is amazingly simplified and reductionist, to the point it is functionally no more than a boardgame.
      Of course, the scene, for want of a better word, has been spoonfed pisswater for a quarter century so most don't know what you're consuming. Which is likely why most have never worked out you only need anti-cheat devices if you both have, and retain, cheats. Otherwise, they're just a way of slowing the game, breeding mistrust, and chewing up real estate.
      I mean unless you think the clicky click noises and the die being spat out the bottom is entertainment in it's own right, in which case you should probably have your nurse explain the long words in this reply.

    • @FitzTheGame
      @FitzTheGame  2 роки тому +1

      Agreed.
      My execution was the only downfall. It fell victim to me try to rush the video out.
      My poor execution aside, the tower does working great and has held up really well over the past few years. I feel the video still works as a base idea for someone looking to make their own, they just need to take more care then I did.
      Thanks for watching and commenting.
