I demand stricter background checks on all van rentals! There are far too many deaths caused by automobiles! Anyone can get a driver's license, and that's just not okay anymore. Maybe in the past it was okay for everybody to have a driver's license, but not now! in this day and age we need to be more careful who has a driver's license.

For one there aren’t as many of these incidents as you wish to believe as there are for firearms, so not many people will agree let alone any politicians. Second, insurances will love when there is an auto crash, that’s mainly how they do business, but with an incident like this it’s reasonable to see from your point of view, but making the process of obtaining vehicles stricter is allowing governments to have more power and having the people become restrained.
You can install physical dividers between sidewalks and the road. problem solved, no additional regulation needed. How do you physically divide people from bullets, with no regulation?

I live not to far from Toronto and this really scares me , but what scares me even more is that I used to live literally right across te street from where the attack took place (I lived in an appartement with my dad).
