Carbon Fiber has a lot of uses in the automotive industry. While once only used by racers looking to save every ounce at the track, carbon fiber has in recent years been used just as much for looks as performance. At the end of the day though carbon fibers best use is performance due to its light weight and strength, How strong is it? Watch as Bill and Cory put a carbon fiber hood through a series of torture tests!

Wow. Well, you guys have definitely validated how truly strong carbon fiber is. The jumping up and down and having it pop back into place is crazy

That was awesome! Didn't expect it to pop back after every test!

It would look good on our 22 GT Dark Matter Gray Metallic! I was thinking of a Super Snake hood for her, but now I am leaning to the carbon fiber hood! We can get an early Anniversary present!😉☺

@@steveb8883 🤔That is a thought! We would have to get the hood pins re installed. Then we can have 2 mustang hoods in storage, a race red one and a gray one!🤐 If we keep going we will be able to build another mustang! We will just need the frame and engine.😂

What is remarkable is how easily it is repaired as well. I took a course to learn how to make and repair composites and the weave carbon fiber repairs as strong as new. The equipment to do it is really expensive especially for larger size pieces such as the hood in this case. We did a repair on a large hole on a jet wing while on the jet and the results were impressive. After it was repainted you would never know it had a basketball size hole in it.

This surprised me. Can't even imagine what UPS had to do to damage it while it was still packaged up. Maybe one of their planes ran over it?

Im curious what the layup construction or binder matrix is. I'm no expert so hopefully someone chimes in but doesnt CF fracture typically unless the resin used to bind it is really soft?

Yea the epoxy is what holds the shape, carpon fiber itself is a fabric.
This is why that sub imploded
