Used to work in a 3D printing/laser cutting shop. We didn’t work with leather often but with thick pieces of most other materials, multiple faster passes almost always got better results than trying to blast through in one go
@@wyattsmith391 If you initially do your settings for multiple cuts and don't touch anything during the process, there shouldn't be any additional error. If you *are* having movement, such as with lighter material moving due to airflow from an exhaust fan, try putting a light weight on the material. Just because it's handy, I often use a small AAA flashlight! I should get a low profile piece of steel or stone, I suppose. I saw one person use a couple of small bolts with a bunch of nuts screwed onto them.
People, especially the old timers, really underestimate the usefulness of even a smaller laser like this in leather craft. I've had mine for almost a year and I cut nearly everything on it now, mind you mine is a 60W CO2 laser with a 20x28 working area, but even something like this creality is great for cutting and personalizing. I've increased my production at least 5 fold by getting a laser. Are they perfect, no, but they are phenomenal. For me it has been a cricket press killer.
A couple of quick tips for you to help you get the most out of your laser with leather.. .First, wet the leather...not damp, like casing for tooling...WET it. It will cut and engrave better, without burning as much on the edges. It also make a whole lot less smoke and stink. Second, ONLY use air assist with cutting. Turn it off for engraving. You'll get MUCH cleaner results. I enjoy your videos, and am not downing your work, by any means. These are just a couple of things I have learned, when cutting patterns on my laser.
This is one of the best videos I’ve seen in a long time. Using the sewing machine to punch sewing holes is so genius I don’t know why I never thought of that! Are you willing to share the 3D printer files for making the inside portion for sand?
Hi, it is a very satisfying video for me. I like the laser and I will buy one. I have a question about dying leather. After you use fienbing's leather dye, you use something oily. What is it? Thanks for your interest.
I am a bigfan of your work style and workflow. Out of your resin printer, fdm printer, and laser printer/cutter. What do you think you use the most with your leathercraft? If you only could use one, which one would you choose? cheers 👍
Awesome work. Your content rocks. What's the little brush you used after antique application? Was that just to get the remaining antique out of the burned areas?
Very nice ! I've been wanting to purchase a laser engraver , but now I have to ask the question which one is better ? And of course the price ??? Other one I've seen demo is orthro....
Thanks! Can't answer that one for you. This is my first laser and it was sent to me. I accepted it because I was already familiar with the Creality brand.
That's so cool. I own an Ender 3 and I love it. I picked up the Sovol laser engraver and I can't wait to use it wit my leather projects. Is the printed inserts enough weight for the coasters?
@roadagent although you now have the Falcon2, would you still recommend the Falcon 1 for engraving leather and cutting out patterns? I watched your video on the Falcon 2 comparing it to the Falcon 1, but the Falcon 1 is more in my price range.

Haven't considered that actually. This was just a set I made for personal use. I probably wouldn't be able to price them low enough to sell economically. There's just too much work that goes into them . . . for coasters anyway.
Thank you for your video , i find it very helpful ! I was looking for a laser cutting machine especially for leather work (cutting and engraving keychain, for now i do all the work by hand and don't have any cutting die) Since you had this creality, did you use it a lot ? Would you say 10W is enough to work with leather ?
I've been using it to cut the heavy leather I use for holsters and other bits. You'll see it in the videos I've posted since this one. It takes a few passes, but definitely works. That being said, I've been sent the newest model; the "Falcon 2". It's a 20W. I'll be comparing the two in an upcoming video. Make sure to subscribe to get the notification when it drops!
Not that it matters either way with a coaster, but why did you decide this time not to channel out the leather for the stitching like you normally do on holsters?
This leather is pretty thin. Plus, I didn't really see the need for a stitch groove, which I often use more as a guide to keep the stitches straight, since I was using the sewing machine's edge guide to pre-punch the holes.
@@RoadAgentLeather that sounds right - I was just thinking about it more as far as getting the stitches out of the way so they don’t wear out with all of the cups sliding across them

Hi. It's been a while since I made this video. I can't remember the speed settings, but the power was 100% and I believe 3 passes. If you watch my "10W vs 22W" video, I remember stating some of my settings in that.
Did a nice on your logo but a little slow on the holster cut out. I wonder if you can do it in reverse where the leather is black and your logo is leather color 🤔
The holster leather was 9 oz, much thicker than the coasters 2 oz. It was my version of a torture test. I slowed it down to 120mm/min to get the laser to cut through it in one pass. But as mentioned, next time I'll actually double the speed and just make multiple passes. Yeah, there's absolutely no reason you couldn't reverse the image. There's really a lot I can do with it.
Hi woooow and Merry Christmas, hope you had a great Christmas with your family. An your artwork is Awesome very kool details. that was very interesting video and your coasters came out Amazing❗❗. I would love to order some coasters from you . Im sure they would be up on price because of the details you put in . Or can you sell me a kit and ill put them together myself, well try hahahahahaa . Im getting a laser and a 3 d printer in the next few months. Thanks an have a Happy New Year
for a 10W diode, I'd start at around 20% power and maybe 200 mm/s. Test on scrap and see where you need to go from there. It all depends on your material and how deep of an engraving you want.
Would you not save a lot of time and money if you just inserted a piece of metal inside. I'm sure even a stainless steel disk will be cheaper than your 3D print. More profit. Unless you just made this for yourself.
For sure. This was a one-off prototype. The way I make them now is much more streamlined and cost effective. It may make for a good follow-up video someday.
Please do something with your audio. Voice can barely be heard, and it appears you have your microphone mounted on your benchtop because it bursts your eardrums when you work at the bench. Those of us who are hearing impaired would appreciate it.

A year behind but in my experience it's the opposite lol slow and just strong enough is always my go to, 2nd passes double the opportunity of error

excellent job, congratulations. Can you tell me which settings you used in Lightburn? thanks
Just ordered mine and also used the code for the $30 off, thank you for the video I am real excited to try it out
A very cool laser and a fantastic job on the coasters!

Nice video and nice toy. I was hoping that you could use this instead of swivel knife or can you adjust the depth for cutting?
I believe you can. It takes adjusting the laser's power, speed, and focus.
Great informative video...coasters are very nice!!!
Outstanding as always!!
Nice work! Really cool design all around!
Being in Texas myself, I would love to get a set of those weighted coasters. Is there a way to order some?
This was great.... I have Creality 3dp, and have been contemplating a laser for my leatherworking.
PS.... nice coasters!
How do you typically clean up the burned edges? Sanding and burnishing?
Damp sponge. Yes; the normal process of sanding and burnishing takes care of it as well.
Awesome work. Your content rocks.
What's the little brush you used after antique application? Was that just to get the remaining antique out of the burned areas?

Do you have the files for the 3D printed weights??
Freakin' lasers, man! Cool stuff!
"One simple request: sharks with freaking laser beams attached to their heads!"
The problem I've observed with basic leather coasters is that they warp. These weighted leather coasters should solve that problem.
