    Nice job Phil! I like it. No way you would catch me soldering.

    4:40 - Jeeze that thing got a huge chip, what kind of chip is it? Why does it have to be so computational? Have any idea what kind of encoder system the height gauge uses for the linear type with a strip at the center?

      It is older tech. I would imagine it does both the counting of the encoder and the display works.

    That's a really nice repair. Just find a battery cover and it's ready to rock'n roll.

    So when you put the locking mechanism back together, how do you adjust how tight it locks if it's not locking or clamping enough? I have a Mitutoyo 12" digital height gauge and the locking mechanism doesn't hold the head in place when I'm trying to scribe lines. How do you adjust that??

    I hate flex strip PC boards. Where I worked (avionics design), the ME's would use that process even when not needed as they wanted more complexity in the packaging.
    It sucks when you take something apart for repair, and it gets damaged. So nice repair of your inflicted damage. Have to see if you ever get a new cover for this. I was able to order a cover for a Mitutoyo 12" caliper, my brother gave it to me from where he worked, I think it was a "safety award" (that's what my other brother, a rig welder called them).😁

      I have yet to chase after a cover for it. Been busy fixing other things. :) Thank you!

    Where is the best place to get spare parts for the older height gages, i have a 192-931 model

      I am not really sure. Some of the indicator repair folks have access to old stock but you would have to call around. I wish I knew more to help.

    Hi. Im restoring a 192 605. At 10.15 when you are putting the wheel back on, well... i cant get it off! Nut is off and theres movement but it will not come away even with a pry. I can see anything preventing this. Any ideas?

      Ide have to look back. I believe they can stick and the plastic grabs. Pry from as close to the shaft as possible as not to snap the wheel.

      My wheel was stuck too, spinning it released it for me. I believe the tight fit cut threads into the plastic. Realize this is 11mo old, but commenting in case it helps anyone else.

    I have the same model. When i start to move it very slowly the LCD tend to be a lite late. I move it maybe 0.1mm and al of a sudden it starts reading. Do you understand? My english is not so good.

    • @AlmostMachining
      @AlmostMachining  Рік тому

      I dont know why it would respond slowly. There could be a battery issue or it is just getting old.

    Shouldn't you pre-tension the backlash elimination spring before putting it back? I have a similar Mitutoyo unit, got it all working but the LCD is very faint, can't seem to find a replacement anywhere

    • @AlmostMachining
      @AlmostMachining  3 роки тому

      Probably. I was careful not to change too many things ao i was lucky in that additional tension wasnt necessary.
