If you are having the same issue with a manual gearbox I dont think is related to the gearbox fluid, since the manual gearbox would not be operated by solenoids but rather the clutch plate and the pressure plate as well as most likely a hydraulic solenoid usually operated by brake fluid, so you might need to bleed the clutch solenoid and see how you get on or may be is time for a clutch...
That's strange, 4.5 liters. That gearbox has the capacity of 4 liters if you drain it warm, or 6 liters if you drain it cold. Probably it was warm at the beginning. Next time try to drain in with the ATF temperature below 60 degrees Celsius.
Hi the Temp for checking is 85-95 deg C, on mine no matter how much driving I do I can't get it above 74 degC. Any suggestions would be more than welcome.
@@nickl2548 OH i see, well are you measuring the temperature with an OBD II reader ? and also if it there is not enough transmission fluid in then it may be struggling to keep the temperature..do you want to check the level on your transmission ..
@@DaringBeefcake Yes I'm using Torque Pro App which gives Transmission temp readings. The transmission is full of oil. It's just that you need to check it at 85 degC and no matter how much driving I do, 45 minutes and more it will not get above 74 deg. I was just wondering if you know how I can get it to 85-95 deg ,which is the correct temperature for a fluid level check.
Nice video, and thank you for the information. I have one question, at what temperature should the gear oil be to check the level at the check bolt? Should we drive the car to get that temperature?

Hi the thing is that the colder that the ambient temperature is, the longer it will take for the transmission oil to warm up and get to temperature, you could rev the engine for a while to get the temperature up a little faster.@@rezzzr6s675
@@ჯუბა-ჯ7ღ sorry, didn’t see the reply, well you can warm up the engine for a bit, the drain the oil. Still what ever comes out measure it and top up same amount.
Hi, I'm thinking of buying the 2.0lr automatic version of this car. Is there any problems I should be looking out for, please. Great video, thanks for sharing it with us. Take care.
This car has a good engine, but just check the coolant level oil level and if there are any messages in the computer in the dash. The one in the vid had a gearbox hard down shifting from third gear to second, but the oil change did fix that. It had around 66000 miles.
I'm having an issue with my manual gearbox, in gears 4 and 5 there's quite a loud humming sort of noise coukd that be related to needing to change the oil?
To be honest am not sure, it is possible that the total capacity is 8.5, because normally when changing the transmission oil some oil remains in the torque converter. So when you drain the oil only some oil comes out, Normally between 3 and 5 litres depending on the car.
I have opel astra 2011 2.0 AT and same problem with downshift when is cold from 5th to 4th, feel some kick when downshift.. should I be scared to change oil to avoid damage gearbox with metal shred on the bottom ??!! I'm wait for your opinion and thanks for video ;)
I didn’t find metal pieces in the oil but the oil was very dirty and thick so the new oil helped to solve the problem. I think the oil could become thicker in the further and may be the solenoids that operate the gearbox could get damaged so may be it’s a good idea to start thinking about changing it.
Great job man, how much do you tighten the drain bolt ? i notice that the bolt is not fully seated against the transmission from factory and there are couple of threads exposed. You also did not fully seat the bolt and torque it. Are we meant to put some sealant on the threads ?
Hi no, the bolt is sticking out for sure but as far as I remember it does close even when is sticking out, I didn’t use any sealant, usually 8 nm is used on this bolts.
Hi there as I say on my video, the amount of oil I replace is the amount that comes out, so I measured the amount that came out, otherwise you need software the measure the temperature of the oil and follow the procedure for refilling. So if you measure what comes out and fill same amount your safe to know you have the correct amount.

I normally change the oil with the transmission warm. You can use dextron granville that should be fine.. yes it says it’s for life but I had issues with my Astra and after replacing the oil it solved the issue. @@marcusmaximus451 hi to be honest am not to familiar with the Vauxhall range. Well is hard to diagnose what might be the issue here. But first the burning smell may be coming from an oil leak, may be oil dripping from somewhere in the engine to the exhaust and burning. If the transmission fills a bit odd when driving or stopping may be try changing the oil. There might be a filter inside the transmission but I haven’t done that and I don’t have this car anymore so I can’t really advise. You could change the transmission fluid and see if the driving improves.
