jokes aside i think there are plenty of different comps that could get some room in the meta if they had one of those three as their cooler but they're just a tad too weak rn
@MantısHK h-3 doesn't really need a paint buff, it's already one of the best painting weapons in the game. What it needs is a buff to its ability to defend itself, cause a cooler weapon needs to be able to stay alive when it needs to, and pencil/edit are both VERY good at that. H-3 is just too slow and too hard to hit shots consistantly, especially in Splatoon 3 when the enemy has cooler and are moving around at mach 3. In 2 we had MPU to get the pseudo 2 shot, which kept it competitive and let relreel continue to farm area cup wins for awhile, but even that fell off at the end of 2.
Its important to remember that zap, while no pencil, is still a really good option so saying any other cooler option is dead on arrival with zap being right there is kinda a disproving of it, even if its not as popular, it WILL have its own comps around it if its good enough like zap
They three, plus Dynamo, pretty much cover all the bases. Frontline cooler, midline cooler, backline cooler, cooler for curvy maps like humpback, every one of them is strong in their niche and every one of them has good enough paint output for their special. Everything else will have to compete with them. Outside of something like Wellstring getting Cooler to dethrone Dynamo, I don't see anything else slotting into this ecosystem. We already have Dapples, TSN and H3 that are all decent to good weapons in their own right, but they get outclassed by Zap, Dynamo and Edit respectively.

The weapons won't be meta-defining, but calling them "dead on arrival" is delusional. It could bring other viable comps to life or introduce new viable playstyles. Many of the possible new Cooler weapons will instantly be top-tier. Big swig and Dread Wringer could bring a paint AOE midline playstyle that's not as kill-oriented as dynamo. Dualy squelshers and Mini splatling could take the suport shooter role while being better weapons. Welstring, Explosher and Jet squelsher all have something Pencil lacks; wether it's AOE, object damage or shooter mobility. In general, we need more support weapons that can replace short-range shooters in more unique ways. For example: Mini would be the best Ink Vac imaginable; It can be a nuisance by painting the ground while fighting, then using Vac in the middle of a team fight, while taking advantage of Run Speed Up and the already painted ground. New Cooler options that has better synergy than Zap with the other backlines would be huge. Especially because if we're getting new Cooler weapons, we are also getting new and potentially better backline kits that can shine in the meta along these new Cooler options. Although buffing H-3, Dynamo and Tri nouveau would also have the same effect of making other options more viable.
I think third kits are unlikely, but if they do happen I think it might just be Sheldon’s picks or a branded collection or something like that and it wouldn’t be for every weapon. So I really hope that if it happens, we get some actual GOOD ones
I'm a firm believer that wellstring should get the wall cooler, I've had this discussion many times in my main groups but I feel wall would actually let the wellstring meaningfully contest pen specifically and make better use of the short range one shot, as well as wellstring would finish off the trifecta of backline coolers, since we'd have all 3 main primarily backline weapon classes with a cooler. I dont think wellstring would be picked as much as pen, since it just has different traits, but I think it opens up AoE comps and if anything just gives stringer specialists more they can do to be put into comps without the rest of their team making major sacrifices on their behalf
tbh jet could also work as a cooler itd unlock alot of other midlines like rb and squeezer and its alright at being self sufficient as its a shooter and tbh any sub that isnt sensor would help alot with the surviveability of it
I mean if Heavy got cooler it'd just flat out replace edit. gets paint out faster thus more consistently, more range, gets to it's peak range faster, and wins the 1v1

It's a very individualistic take. It's a take that assumes team composition is solved and no weapon they could add would change what teams want to build around. Forgetting that Pencil and Dread are themselves Meta defining weapons
Snipewriter should be 220p and receive another nerf to the main weapon. Hedit should be 210p(possibly 220p). Tri Nouveau should be 200p. N-Zap should stay 200p(possibly 210p). H3 and Dynamo should both be 180p, with possibly both the main weapons getting more buffs. And I don't know what buffs to do for Dapples. I guess make them 160p?
Unfortunately, the 3 jokes are only used when they’re convenient. Make x3 versions of existing specials? Sure. Add 3 kits per weapon? No that takes effort.
It can also depend on if there is a stronger backline kit that gets introduced or if the devs decided to nerf/buff things drastically (considering new content and all)

I was a Ballpoint main in 2, and in Zones I always picked Beakon Ballpoint over Rain Ballpoint because of the pure usefulness of Beakon in Ranked, even in C+ or B-, teammates would often use my Beakons over swimming back to mid (Plus, I always used a main of SbPU on my shirt for that exact reason of 'much, much quicker return to mid')

I hope we get 3rd kits, and I really want a Reeflux with Splat Bomb and Tacticooler. While it probably wouldn't be great, it would be really fun. Reeflux doesn't really have a lethal bomb (curling isn't as lethal as the other ones) and splat bomb would really help. Reeflux is very aggro, and a bomb would allow for combos and displacement. It also allows Reeflux to poke from a distance, without needing their special. Tacticooler would be pretty cool for Reeflux. Tacticooler gives a lot of mobility, something which is good for Reeflux, as well as QR, and since Reeflux is a weapon that dies a fair bit, this would be helpful. While reeflux does paint best in short tap shots, its bomb would help continue its output of coolers and assist its teammates with buffs and damage. I think that Reeflux with cooler could also allow a possible double cooler comp. A pencil shot, with just one arrow of reeflux can combo for a quick splat, pencil can paint lines for reeflux to travel in, as if it still had its curling for mobility. Pencil can also grant it tacticooler, if it doesn't have one. If HP specials are a bad thing, reeflux has the good stringer object damage, allowing for better shredding, plus its bomb. You could also have an aggressive shooter or something like that, which usually reeflux can shave a shot of damage off for it and vice versa. I think, overall, this kit could have competitive worth and would be insanely fun casually and I really hope it happens. (also if this doesnt happen plz buff tri-nouveau, its fun but 210 just isnt great)
Was it ever actually confirmed it was gonna be a 4th splatana and stringer, I remember it being "two other new weapons, as well as the 3rd splatana and stringer" could have been any weapon type, was just expected to release at the same time as Wellstring and Decav.
I think Explo with Cooler would be better than people give it credit for. Good range, lots of paint, and an AoE weapon with no line-of-sight requirement. It would certainly compete with Wellstring with their strengths, but either would set themselves apart from pencil enough that they would have merit in the right strategies
The problem with the take is that if every weapon gets a third kit, there’s too many unknowns as to how all the not-cooler third kits will affect the meta. Maybe there will be something that’s highly viable but doesn’t gel with edit or pen and wants a different cooler weapon.

i need to say it chara, dread isnt the best choice of cooler tbh. i think its better for comp synergy and weapon needing benefiting the abilitys too Rapid pro would be good with the intensify swim speed and for a dive comp Under for the shield regen on top of the run+swim speed douser gets so much through all abilitys Reeflux would get so much of the swim and run speed (also ink res cause no feet paint sometimes) any other splatling would love the intensify and runspeed (ink res as well) the role dread would go would be already be filled if we just buff dynamo and Tri slosher if we want AOE coolers. the only thing that dread would have is being a midline cooler option, but hear me out there is no reason dread would want anything else of cooler than being a meta special, doesnt want run speed, doesnt benefit much of ink res, not anything of intensify, nothing special of main like under. the only thing dread gets is swim and QR and thats it, in that sense even zap is better designed with it cause it benefits of almost every ability cooler gives. i really want to know a good reason for dread wanting cooler besides its meta special or it would be good, i want a special on dread that has synergy like slider, even if the special is bad the gun should still work well.
It would be a good marketing for them to release third kits to bring back players who like the game but lost interest. it’s kinda wild that they release a live service game like this at all. There’s no Fortnite 2 it’s just Fortnite and they update that game to keep up with the current day nkt just completely can it. I feel like they should put a lot of time and effort into developing splatoon 4 to be the definitive edition of splatoon, like everything included from the get go, that would make me really happy
