    This was such an interesting video Stella. Thanks so much for discribing the colors and make Up of the different gear because I am visually impaired and love following service dog handlers but tend to miss out on gear collection like this because people don’t tend to describe the gear they’re holding

    Finn is a beautiful dog .I am very partial to poodles cause I adopted a miniature poodle from the shelter. I had him for 14 yrs. He lived to be 19 yrs old. Finn follows orders so well.

    I know it's been a while since you uploaded this, but OMG this is a stellar video! I have a 15 month old large breed SDIT, about the same height as your poodle but weighing in at 100 lbs. Gear reviews are usually for teeny tiny little pups. I current;y use a 3.1 prong when we are training or when a quicker response is required, but that rigid handle harness might be the ticket when all he needs is a nudge one way or another instead of a tug on his neck. And, I have seen NOBODY with more gear than you have nor have I seen anyone who knows more about the nuance. You totally are a resource!!!

      Hey!! Fellow collie SDIT, at last I found one!! Aside from my dog and his brother (still not sure about that though, I mentioned I was going to start training mine to be an SD at one of the meetups and bro's owners casually said "oh yeah ours is going to be one too" despite him being very aggressive the entire time and them not correcting him at all (they let him off leash after he'd already attacked my dog and one sister, and had tried to hump the other NOT SPAYED sister, which I add to reflect on their irresponsibility and not him doing generic unneutered dog things)) I've literally never known of another collie SD before. Hope yours is doing well both in training and just generally!!

    I would also like to add because I have 3 ESA’s that are task trained that even if they are task trained they also need to be public trained as well. Because mine are not public trained I can’t take them into Walmart or restaurants. I can take them to pet friendly stores. I rather have ESA then SD. 1 there training if you want to train them are cut in half and you don’t have to worry about washing them out. 2 I don’t want to be tied to a dog when I’m out in public places. This just works for me and my husband. Just one more thing do reach before you choose what would work best for your disability.

    Very useful info on harnesses and vests. I'm still in shock[!?], though, that shock collars still find a place in dog training. Thanks for the good stuff.

    • @nospoonfulofmayonnaiseforme
      @nospoonfulofmayonnaiseforme Рік тому +3

      It's not a shock collar, it's an e-collar. When used correctly they help to communicate clearly with the dog and don't hurt/scare them. The dog should even be excited to wear one bc it means fun and treats. Many people don't even use stim and only vibrate/tone. Of course like any tool can be misused, but that doesn't mean they're always bad.

    • @obscvritas3601
      @obscvritas3601 8 місяців тому +1

      @@nospoonfulofmayonnaiseformethank you for this take. It is totally understandable to not feel comfortable using a particular tool for your own dog but there is just so much judgement about what people use to train with. Different scenarios call for different tools.

    Just subscribed. Love the patch tabs. Never knew they made such a thing. Its awful that the business owner got heat for making it. In ny opinion you didnt steal the design. Stealing Designs is when you sell them to make a profit. Haters will hate though unfortunately.
    I'm going to be making dog bandanas, collars and other things soon. I'd love to send you some to do a review if you want. If you let me know colors you like and designs you like I can see if I can get fabric close to what you like. I would need your dogs measurements as well

    I'd love more gear but it's sooooo expensive especially in australia. I can't wait to get her a vest for once she's officially in training in a program but she's 9 months and that could be a while away. I'm definitely going to get a spare leash though.

    I really love all the gear but I was wondering if having lots of patches/signs etc. On the dog is counterproductive because it's harder to read from a distance? Personally, I don't think I'd pick up on any writing if there is more than 1-3 bits, because my brain would just see it as a design thing, and not warning signs/important information?

      Same here. I hate to see people training service dogs with aversive tools. A dog should not be forced to work if they don't want to, and I see it as a strong indicator that the handler doesn't have good enough training skills to teach the dog the right way.

    • @thepawswithpurpose
      @thepawswithpurpose  2 роки тому +7

      it's actually not a shock collar, if you want to do some research and get educated on ecollars (ecollar technology brand!), that would be a good place to start so you understand how they are used. :) and nope, he's very food motivated, that doesn't have to do with why i choose to use the tools i do though.
