I chose the federal punch when I first bought my Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 45 about 6 months ago but I'm going to be switching to Federal HST +P 230g when I swap out my carry ammo. I only chose the punch because it is all the gun shop had for .45 acp when I first bought my shield 45 brand new and I had already seen positive reviews of it, but yeah I'm making a point to have HST in all of my carry gun rotation. Both are good options either way imo. 🙂
Thanks for the info. I own one of each. I have often wondered the difference since many manufacturers test with either a 5- inch or 4.5-inch barrel.
We can finally buy the Springfield Hellcat and Hellcat Pro, albeit with the California BS, Mag disconnect, and huge ugly loaded chamber indicator. They are now on the famous California Handgun Roster. Some people are saying the LCI is so large that it could interfere with the red dot optic.
Really, I have never seen it, but I will see it at SHOT next week.
The indicator protrudes 1.6mm above the rail, Using a "Holosun 507k" for example utilizing a 1.47mm thick rmsc adapter plate, the very bottom of the sight glass housing puts it at a total of 3.92mm overall height above the rail. So that's 2.45mm in height above the top of the protruding lci. 👍

What do they do to the bullet to make it specifically for the Hellcat?...There is no way they re-developed ammunition for 1 single gun LOL. It has to be all marketing.
It would be more interesting to compare the regular Federal Punch to these new supposedly Hellcat optimized Punch rounds to see if they're is a difference.

I haven't released it yet but I tested the Punch out of a 3.2" & it performed amazingly 1080fps in freezing cold. I certainly would like a @SpringfieldArmoryInc T&E account & Hellcat Pro. I was the first on all UA-cam to review Hellcat vs p365 at range I worked at & done vids w Ronin!
Why can't we see a test of just the Hellcat? Why do we have to see the Hellcat with an optic? The Hellcat Pro? The box says this ammo was developed for the Hellcat. Test it in the damn Hellcat!
great video might grab a box or two just to have with my hellcat! let’s all be real, it’s not like you’re using your self defense rounds very often unless training specifically for that!

Winchester kinda quietly already did that with their Ranger T line.
Their PDX is similar, but more generic and "non LEO" oriented.
This means that a few loadings in the PDX line up are either standard velocity or...well....a bit less.
Like Big Reds .45 Colt loadings.
All of which are still pretty watered down for what .45 Colt can do as a self-defense cartridge.
And, sadly, PDX is non-existent in .44 Special.
As far as I'm aware.
Guess Winchester doesn't feel like giving
any PDX love to .44 Special.

Just another gimmick to sell those ridiculous 20rd boxes at a even higher price.
Winchester Ranger series or Horady Critical Duty for the 9mm. Period. “Punch”. Really?!?! How about making more of your existing line and lowering the prices???
I run Sig Critical Defense vstars and they are also very good ammo for 9mm

9mm Federal Punch ammo is another gimmick attempt to turn 9mm into a cartridge it can never be.
And that cartridge is .40 S&W.
Love the .40 S&W! My nightstand gun is Springfield XD40 Service 4 inch, with Trijicon HD Night/Fiber Sights. It is loaded with Speer Gold Dot 165gr JHP.
This is America after all, you use what makes you happy and safe, FYI, Punch is GREAT ammo.

HST, in general, is a good bullet design.
Federal did a bang-up job when they developed it.
Even the bullet it was developed out of, the Hydra-Shok, was and still is a good bullet.
Morphing into Federals "Deep" line up.
Which I kinda guess was Federals answer to Hornadys Critical Duty line of ammo.
Albeit maybe not so much in +P trim?
And this IS America.
Anyone can like what they wish, true.
But there are better cartridges than 9mm available.
Many have been around longer than 9mm, and some are contemporary with it or are modern, solid replacements for it as self-defense answers.
And they use HST bullets, too.
Even in the Federal Punch line up.
@@ravenrise320 Again, this is the beauty of this country, you can use whatever you think it's good for you. I do have a couple of .40 pistols, but I tend to gravitate to 9mm or .45, sometimes 10mm. I have tested all of them thoroughly, like I did on this Video, I think 16+" of penetration and full expansion was enough for me. FWIW, I know someone that was involved in a Civilian encounter back in the 90's, he used a .40, he was using a very popular round in the day, and there was a lot of over penetration, every round that hit it's intended target, kept going and the bad guy survived. Not saying it is bad ammo, but in this case, did not work as expected. I do have some Federal HST .40 kicking around, one of these days I will test it
