Listening for the subtly lovely qualities in this Downs/Walker and your delicate technic, what a match! And, such a heartfelt longing in "Aria" by Rachel Laurin.
Thank you for introducing me to the organ music of Rachel Laurin. It certainly is tragic that she died in her early sixties but your 'homage' marking this first anniversary is most touching, Ben: bravo. For me, there is a strong sense of mysteriousness - even spirituality - in this haunting 'Aria' that sounds wonderful on the Downes/Walker Organ with your sensitive playing and succinct registration choices. I was interested to find a recording of the 'Toccata' from Symphonie No. 1 on UA-cam and that is an altogether more fiery and virtuoso affair. Rachel was certainly an incredible composer who crafted music that is undoubtedly contemporary, but still accessible.
