I think people truly understand the scale of the impact the internet and streaming has had on the music industry, specifically Hip Hop. Copycats have always existed, you just didn’t hear them because the streets didn’t support them and the labels didn’t back them. Plus, back then, people had to fight (figuratively and actually quite literally) for “the top spot” in a genre mainstream didnt even really care about. Now that time has passed and the genre been infiltrated and “them people” have figured out whats commercially viable over what the culture wants, everyone just tryna get they cut of the pie doing exactly what pop artists did in the 80s: find a sound, create/ push the artist, profit, repeat. Just my personal thoughts tho. I’m just some random guy. Idk poop bout pee….
