Mission Impossible 64. The random lines in the game have never escape me. Sometimes I’ll find myself saying “got it!” when I find something lost in that bizarre Ethan Hunt voice actor tone. The “Rock Steady” is the best.
Resident Evil 1 and Final Fight Sega CD...." Hi Hi Hiiiiiii "
Rune Factory on PS2 (had to mute that game), Prince of Persia on Mega/Sega CD and pretty much every npc in Shenmue
Dying of laughter at the Street Fighter Alpha III announcer guy, especially when he's literally standing there watching his friend get eaten and doing absolutely nothing. My first thought was the MGS game over screen too which made me laugh even harder. A+ editing on that one Joe.
The Symphony of the Night voice acting is pure gold. Nothing will ever beat that glorious mixture of overacting, overall cheesiness and poor translation. Just like with the old Resident Evil games, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Funny note: Richter's voice actor is the same guy who did Chris on the original Resident Evil. I guess not many people ever noticed that. One of the worst (yet hilarious) voice actors I know.

I recall that Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed has the same thing, with the announcer mentioning "Girius" (instead of Gilius) and occasionally mispronouncing "Danica".
Some other games like Tales of Symphonia and Freedom Planet seem to have used some old spellings in the actors' scripts as well, though it didn't result in R/L issues in those cases.
Sirynx77 I've seen lazier. Zero Wing is a prime example. "WE GET SIGNAL," and all.

Great episode. The dialogue between Richter and Dracula has been permanently embedded in my brain for how cheesy it is. I look forward to the next worst voice acting episode!

Still the best Megaman game of all time tho imo. Playing as Zero is the most fun you can possibly have playing a Megaman game.

I can assure you the voice acting in Dynasty Warriors is still bad. DW9 is probably the worst and it came out this year.
Mega Man X7 and Prince of Persia for Sega CD are also very bad. And any of the Zelda games for CD-i.

I think some of them are bad because the one guy in the office that "can speak english" did the translation and it sounds hammy when acted literally.
The Konami X-Men arcade game has some great one liners: “Juggernaut will flatten you!”, “X-Men, welcome to die!”
My other favourite Guy Kazama line, "I don't like roast pork!"
Ah... the famous line that gives the game it's context. Without this line, all would be lost.

I genuinely miss terrible voice acting the same way I do chiptunes. Gaming lost a good chunk of its identity as a medium as it became better and better at aping film and television.

Will Mistretta I agree. Bad voice acting in video games is kind of a lost art nowadays. I miss the cheesiness that they used to provide.

When Barry says "Jill sandwich" he splits Jill's name into two syllables with such emphasis that it almost sounds like "Jiggle Sandwich." 26:21
I'm from brazil and I usually play games in english because uh... the voice acting in portuguese, most of them, are terrible. The only one game that have good voice acting that came to my mind is Grim Fandango.
Something about the old Resident Evil voice acting just fits that unnatural, weird ambiance the game has going in general. The VA work is incredibly off about everything in a game that's trying to make you uncomfortable and it just adds to it.
REmake, while a better game in general is just missing that.

Seriously though, Chaos Wars only has an English dub due to Sony's mandates, and the English producer hired his family (I believe the word for this is "nepotism") to be cheap.
The worst part about the voice acting in that game is that it sounds like they didn't even try.

Man you totally missed out on mentioning that the voice actors for Chaos Wars were literally the family members of the publishing team. No wonder it was so awful.

Could be, or just to get everyone out safely so they can sort out who everyone, is when the area is secure. Happens often in police raids.
House of The Dead 2 gets my vote for best voice acting. When I bought HOTD2 for my Sega Dreamcast at launch I had no idea of the absolute hilarity I would be subjected to. My favorite thing about that game is the innocent victims...they will go from running for their lives while screaming to thanking you like they're ordering a pizza. It's so deadpan and purposefully lifeless you can't help but laugh. Great stuff.
Victim: "Oh my God it's going to kill me!!!"

And even if the anime takes place in Japan, we the audience (in North America) don't speak Japanese as default, so the intricacies, class structure and conversational norms are totally lost on us. Even just as simple as "Well that's what subtitles are for" misses the entire point of localization. There are things in Japanese that North Americans just flat out won't understand. And it is NOT in the reverse here- one of our biggest exports besides the obvious ones is entertainment, specifically film and TV.
I say this: There are some actors and voice actors that have such a distinctive voice and way of speaking (or theyr voice and way of speaking just clicks with charater they are voicing) that I prefer original before any dub. I am not from English-speaking country, so I have plenty of experience with dubbing of English-speaking movies and shows. There are shows, like british Professionals, that I always watched dubbed in my mother language, so I am used to it and accept it as original (and it was my number 1 series when I was growing up). And there are shows like Superdimension Fortress Macross that I watched as a child and they had miserable voice-acting but I didn't see that at that time and now they sound just weird in "proper" form.
For example, my most favourite anime, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, is just perfect in Japanese, English version isn't bad but some of main characters feels off and theyr voiceover isn't representative of theyr character in the same way as in Japanese version (there are lots of little quirks in pronunciation and way of delivery in Japanese version that are lost in English version, that is much more flat, bland and much less energic). But in my another favourite anime, Black Lagoon, I like difference in characterisation with English dub and prefer it before Japanese version. Also Cowboy Bebop is much better in English.
Subtitles are distracting, and tended to be pretty much on par with the worst dubbing in terms of quality, mainly when it comes to shows and movies that aren't mainstream. I am big fan of Akira Kurosawa, and because it is costly to employ japanolog to translate correctly from Japanese to my mother language, they just take English subtitles and translate them. And man, it is bloody difference translate native English text into one of the more complex and less common languages, and here you are translating translation! But subtitles were my main way to get familiar with English, so I am not dismissing them.
@@romanrm1 I'm guessing you haven't watched any anime dubbed after the '90s.
@@KitsuneYojimbo I'd say I shrugged at hearing some dubbed anime from early to mid 2000-s as well. Maybe not tried any newer than that. Don't see the point in the first place, I love how Japanese sounds, so I watch with subtitles. It's also educational, after a while you start understanding like 30-50% of it not looking at the subtitles, even without intentionally studying.

I had no idea that Ghost Squad is such a phenomenal game - and it looks like it can be had rather eBaysily. I’m gonna have to dust off my Wii now.
Ghost Squad is indeed one of the 30 or so games on the Wii, that an adult person can play and that is actually quite good. It's not as good as House of the Dead - Overkill (that game can't be beaten) or Mad World, but it's still a good lightgun shooter. There is also a double pack of 2 arcade ports: Gunblade NY & LA MachineGuns. Also lightgun shooters. Afaik is this the only port of these games to any home console. They are also ok and the disc can be had for less than 3 bucks new.
Frank Schneider, Less than $3 where? It's over $25 on eBay.

You should do a GS on mistakes in games, like the one lady in Oblivion who messes up her line so she says it twice, completely uncut.
my fave bit in HOTD2 is "G's blood stains???" like they recognise a person's blood.
A lot of games back then, the voice acting sounded like they used the janitorial staff as voice actors, and recorded their lines in the bathroom.

“It won’t do to die here” is perfectly fine. Saying that something undesirable “won’t do” is a common way to refuse to accept it. Duh.
The voices in that vampire night game reminded me of Deadly Premonition.
Fun fact: the original guy who did Richter in Castlevania SOTN also did Wild Dog in Time Crisis. Both bad voice acting games.
I always thought there was something off about the voice acting in Perfect Dark (N64).

I thought the acting was kind of flat, if anything- at least when it came to the minor enemies. Like some dude (who was not an actor) was just reading the lines.
It's also kind of funny to recognize when one actor is playing a few different characters, or to notice the slip-ups when they put on a (mostly decent) American accent.

This reminded me of friends playing DW3 at a house party back in the day, when a cutscene showed a character making a passionate speech about defending their kingdom in an overly-enunciated British accent. The moment he finished, someone at the back of the room shouted, in a pitch-perfect copy of that voice, "... because we're SO Chinese!"
For non native English speaking people many of these games sound fine^^ I totally get why the Japanese were not able to notice something went wrong :-P For me the PC Engine CD games are most obviously flawed. Much of the rest is kinda "normal" to me^^

What? No Nintendo CD-i games? Also, fun fact about those games. The guy who voices Mario, Luigi, and Bowser is the only one who seems to have had a career after the CD-i games. One of his later roles was as the announcer for the Earthbending Tournament in Avatar: The Last Airbender and he's definitely improved.

I don't mind the voice acting of RE and Symphony of the Nigth that much. You had FAR FAR worse examples in this video. People just point at these so oft because of the status these games still have. It was not so bad when the games came out, not at all.
