I’ve been using the Bose Frames for 3 years now. Had a Bose Frames Alto, enjoyed the upgrade to the Bose Frames Tenor and am currently in awe of how much better a new Tenor I got sounds, even though it looks like Bose has stopped making them. It looks like a really well received and reviewed product, I believe they are just working on new ones. I’d love to hear about how they compare to these Meta ones audio-wise, even though I can’t use the Meta because they don’t make it for prescriptions higher than 5.
As someone who used to manage a Best Buy, the issue is also sales numbers. Bose didn't really move too many units, definitely less than they'd have liked anyway. Even if you've got rave reviews from almost everyone who bought them, it doesn't end up counting for much if that demographic is so small. I think you'll see them revised and returning, but probably not for another few years. They were a little ahead of their time and the design could definitely use a little revision (in terms of looks, functionally they're pretty decent but they do kinda look like fake Dollar Store glasses)
i think the reason people didnt react was, who would have guessed that random white dot means someone is filming, just feels like it isnt enough as a sign that people are filming
Great thorough review! What did you think of the app? Is the app lacking anything? I wish the glasses would record landsape 16x9 mode. The aspect ratio they are using seems like pre 1990!
I wear these on top of my head while I'm at work. Everyone thinks they are just sunglasses on top of my head. Little do they know, that I'm listening to music. That's the true advantage of these glasses. You don't need the app, if you just pair them through bluetooth.
Given my personal preferences and needs, I find the utility of these glasses to be limited. While the integration of audio capabilities, picture/video recording, and smart features into sunglasses is innovative, the absence of an augmented reality (AR) display diminishes their appeal to me. Without this feature, they do not align with my expectations for such advanced eyewear.
Hopeful the next version will have stereo capture for “spacial” videos also would like 16 hours of battery life as these would be my glasses too, maybe next version if you have always listening off we could get there. Different colors also, maybe tortoise to give it some style
Thanks for this review. The portrait only photo mode is a deal breaker for me as I have no use for it but would use landscape frequently. The video limit is a bit of a problem but wouldn't be a deal breaker.
Crazy that this video dropped today! I legit just ordered these yesterday at LensCrafters! My only issue is the 60 sec only recording. I hope with a firmware update, they'll increase it to like 5 or even 10 mins. If the glasses can livestream(720) for longer than 1 minute, then, aside from storage, there shouldn't be any reason why they topped to only 1 minute. Excited to get these when they come in!
@@SM-bk4yeits actually less than most designer or brand name frames, especially if you have eye coverage insurance which most people that require glasses do
I was able to get the 2nd roll out of Google Glass, my friend who was one of the first 10K beta was able to invite 3 people and I used them for about 2 years before the broke. Like your experience, the audio and camera was the best use case, the HUD was poor but was decent for notifications. I'm not reconsidering this an an alternative to earbuds if I can make a pair work as an alternative to reading glasses that I am now dependent on.
I ended up getting the translucent blue frames with transitions lenses, so they're great indoors and darker out side. The glasses are comfortable and non invasive. Listening to music is awesome, especially if you are doing something that requires audio awareness like walking a dog or riding your bike. I never use noise cancelation in those instances. The case is great, they're stiff enough to protect the glasses and holds 8 charges. Def a premium looking device and after my insurance deductible went through these were the same cost as a regular pair of glasses. Off loading images and videos to my iPhone is easy, not like Norm described. Seems to be near seamless to me. Battery life has been no issue for me and I did take Norm's suggestion and turned off Hey Meta.
@@winsteezy403You could get standard lenses then take them to your optometrist to fit custom lenses with transition. I've done this with other smart frames, so don't see why this wouldn't work the same.
I'm actually wearing glasses that only have the audio and it works pretty much exactly the same way as described here. It's called the Revel Tune and they look pretty similar. I used to use them to listen to music at work, but the left side audio and mic stopped working a few months in and now it won't hold a charge. Also it has a weird proprietary magnetic charger. I'll probably get another one when I can afford it and leave it unfolded when I charge it at night.
K.... so I put my head down on the table and it went from perfectly fine to the same problem. I'm gonna test their "warrenty"now but on afraid the sunglasses hut around me have no idea how to deal with I read the policy is 50% outside of warranty... which sounds about right as I've had a fossil hybrid watch go bad after a year and a store knowing the policy and giving me an appropriate discount on a similar watch. Time will see
When the tech looks "cool" (or at least "normal"), that's when you know they're serious about bringing it to market. The light indicator seems like something that could be worked around via jailbreaking and software revision. Same with the video time limit (which seems odd anyway).
Black Nail polish perfectly over the light and not the whole lens will fix this. The indicator is around the light so if you cover just the light and not the whole lens you’ll be fine.
I asked the meta assistant what 20x1 was, and it replied that it was 200.. I was confused, so I asked again and it again said 200.. Then I said, "That's not correct." and it replied "Sorry, you are correct, 20x1 is 20" So weird, and don't trust its math functions. Today is the first day I got to use mine (just got them), and its pretty cool. I'm not on the beta, so my functionality is limited, and I am looking forward to the updates, or getting on the beta.
The one minute recording time is a deal breaker for me, since I wanted to use those while driving, as some kind of safety "dash-cam" system. Great review though. Thanks !
I went to the store and tried it. I like it, but Rayban glasses doesn’t look good on me, it looks small on me. I like the technology and idea of it. I think it’s really good for jogging with it. The sounds are really clear and great. Plus it’s not heavy at all.
Temple controls are pretty clever, that’s interesting. Shame about the battery life, and being connected to the Meta products, but I am sure they are quietly subsidizing the price, so it makes sense.
So much commentary about the camera, and listening to music. What about having AI (Hey Meta!)? I have Google homes in my house, but having access when driving or walking is what I'm interested in.
I love this video! Super informative and well made 🤩 I do have a question- When you watch social media content like UA-cam or Instagram or TikTok, are you able to hear the audio content through the frame speakers? Any information would be awesome 🙏🏻
So, when I think of "smart glasses" I think of lenses that can display stuff to me, not just another set of cameras/mics/speakers. This feels like more "influencer" crap that isn't going to be useful for most people. A pair of bone conduction headphones fills 99% of the same functionality for me.
Agreed....altho i found them looking for like spy glasses or more comfortable or practical go pro...the go pro cumbersome and seems these are better for most features....bit expensive
They have their place believe it or not. I have a tree service/landscaping business and I use them to capture my work live so I can put on social for marketing later. People love POV especially when your way up high in a tree or operating large equipment etc…It’s surprising how many people will follow your work if they have that”there with you” perspective
The concept is of course really interesting and could be amazingly useful when the services mature enough and if performance was sufficient. It would be cool to for example be able to access a drawing, technical reference etc while working on something, or even better, say an AR system where you for example can get an overlay when working on a motor, a suspension or similar and that overlay can give details on how to disassemble/assemble parts, identify components and their functions and so on. As in, you look at a car motor and you can immediately get info on what a tube or cable is for, where it goes, specified voltage or pressure. All of this is of course a ways into the future, but I’m sure it will get there. Ruggedness is the final part that needs to improve for some of us; I could never use a pair that can’t take heavy dirt, water and some rough handling in my day to day life.
As a person with ASD, I have great difficulty with cameras and such that are 'in my face' as it were. I have no problem with cameras in stores like in the supermarket, but am not okay with cameras at the checkouts right in my face. They make me feel invaded and are triggering. Smart glasses like these present another way to have ones privacy violated. The fact that people don't notice someone wearing a pair of these suggests that they would not note the tiny light on them when recording and imaging. Thanks for the review as always Norm and tested, but these are not a great tech with the camera function.
I'm super interested in the AR possibilities of these kinds of devices, but making filming/photographing people less noticeable to others sounds terrible. There really should be an audible announcement made by the device every time a picture or video is about to be taken.
Yeah. The trend with removing AR but leaving the cameras/microphones seemed like the exactly wrong direction for this technology to go. I'd rather have one with no camera unless they can't solve AR without it.
I’m my line of work I recently dealt with a guy wearing these. I immediately noticed the camera lenses, I didn’t say anything about it. Just because someone doesn’t say anything, doesn’t mean they don’t notice.
This is funny. Many of the videos have had me thinking about Adam's glasses. As a man who have had to use glasses for as long my memory reach, I have for long been curious if Adam have the right prescription for his glasses.
Great review. Thorough. Enlightening. Firstly, any pair of glasses should fit properly on a face. This is difficult as most bridges are 19mm and many people require larger bridges, such as 22mm. Hard to find that size in even regular frames. Secondly, controlling the features requires touching the frames. This has to evolve into speach control ("Take a photo"; "Take a video"; etc.) Thirdly, if the batteryu exhausts itself and cannot be replaced, that's my $500 samoilians down the drain. Not what I'm looking for in a product such as this. Excellent review.
Yeah I can't wait to get them. Ordered the brown pair through my works Insurance so I got them prescripted for under $100. The audio is def what sold it for me tbh
I enjoyed the review and I can't help but think how in addition to these replacing other audio devices they will eventually replace many features from smart watches, especially with some level of heads up display
Do you have to pair with your phone to take phone calls, or can you pair with your Apple Watch? The combination of glasses & watch sounds ideal in some circumstances.
For me, the biggest barrier for this technology is that my work place will prohibit the use of them. That accounts for a significant part of my waking life and means they can never replace my day to day glasses. The second sociological issue I foresee is that while the number of adults is significant (broady 70% or so), the number of young adults wearing glasses day to day is about half that (35%) (figures are obviously approximate). Unfortunately that means your tech-savvy early adopter crowd is less likely to make the technology fashionable. P.S. Love your reviews, Norm.
Kinda don’t like the fact that it shows the light when taking pictures/recording. In some cases it’s important that a person knows they’re being filmed, but in other cases someone would’ve been able to use it to prove something like domestic abuse in a divorce case or something and if the person knows they’re being filmed it can be a problem… but I get too that this isn’t for “spying” but for live streaming and content creation. Also kinda disappointed in the battery life and the fact that videos can only be up to a minute long… I’d use it to film a project I’m working on and then speed it up in an editor, but I can’t do that if the camera only films up to a minute.
Thanks for the video. Out of interest, is there a way to switch off the glasses to save battery? Trying to understand what action switches them on and therefore uses the battery. Is it when the arms are open i.e. on the head?
My son is legally blind. He has no vision in one eye and about 30% in the other. This occurred from a version of lymphoma he had as a child that crushed his optic nerves. I am very interested in the use of glasses like these that could feed video to a portable A.I. device to help with everyday tasks. Just throwing this out there for those that can help.
So basically glasses with camera... and here i thought i'm gonna see some futuristic glass/screen being able to search whatever u need or watch a movie. Was i naive :p
Yup... Smart glasses to me put directions in the hud, show me reviews of restaurants I'm outside, remind me the names of people I've met before These are earbuds with a cheap camera.
Even with the short comings, I love them. I use contact lenses, and I bought the transition lenses type. So, I can wear indoors and outdoors. Even walking at night when is windy to avoid dust on the contacts. The pics are okay. Videos are better. I'm still having a blast taking pics/ vids while walking around in Manhattan without having to use a cellular all the time.
If all they do is record video and take pictures to share on social media I don't get the smart of it cuz it's not like the Google lens or anything similar where you are getting information about your surroundings on the glasses themselves.
Imagine you could use at the same time a smart ring and a smart glasses... or smart glasses that could use your sight when it gets dark like night vision... or movie group you have all your pair of glasses for cab drivers if any accident it's straight away sent to the cloud and "Police Cloud" could straight we know who is wrong and right... I have sooo many examples and ideas... I think it's a huge step for what will come... imagine doctors that could communicate with high speed internet and could help straight away... school exchange... It's amazing... thanks for the review
If someonenturned up in my company wearing those I would ask them to leave. Hidden cameras in glasses are the creepiest thing I have ever seen. I cannot think of an idea I am more uncomfortable with.
@@DammitBobbyfor well over a decade you've been able to buy cameras hidden in glasses, pens, etc for $100. If someone has "nefarious" plans this is NOT a difference maker.
@@vlada Yep, and anyone who brought those into my home would get the same response. Although the ability to live stream, and how many people think these are 'cool' ups the creepiness factor significantly. I have nothing to hide but I value my privacy.
Yeah, the industrial/corporate/actually-literal espionage concerns are very real, beyond even just the creep factor of having someone possibly recording me without my consent.
Watching this, listening through my Wayfarer's while they're connected to my computer. Technology is wild. I will agree that the shutter speed could definitely be improved. The image quality in general seems comparable to my Galaxy S21 which isn't terrible. For someone with ADHD who utilizes visual lists more than written lists, it's already been useful.
i'm still trying to justify these as someone who don't use glasses and lives in the uk. I think they would be great for fishing, holidays, listening to podcasts while gardening. trouble is that only means a hand full of weeks over here. I think when they have a basic display showing notifications, time, weather etc ill jump in but for now i'm still on the fence.
He actually said "they didn't even notice the notification" which seems even worse than it already is. If the hidden-camera glasses BY THE PEOPLE WHO ARE NOTORIOUS FOR SPYING ON USERS wasn't going too far, then the lack of any notification for anyone other than the user pushes it clean over the line.
I was thinking more along the lines that it doesn't clunk up the frame of the glasses. Obviously if I were to film, I would let others know, but I like the idea that his kids will have videos of them being completely themselves to show back to them when they are older. I'm very camera aware, too.. for me it's matter of building up self confidence. Not because I don't like cameras.. I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder 😄
@@AMan-xz7tx imagine if someone records how they are being abused on a daily basis. That would be amazing! MAYBE THEY WOULD HAVE PROOF TO SHOW SOMEONE....
No one has noticed and THAT'S REALLY SCARY. No one noticed you were potentially filming them all the time. Without their permission. THIS IS A PROBLEM. The light just isn't enough.
Well, in public there is no expectation of privacy and you can legally record anyone at any time from any public area. And that is the whole reason for the recording indicator light.
@@Ant-813 Even in say a restroom or the locker room at the gym? There should be the expectation of privacy in some places, even if legally there aren't.
@@davedujour1You don’t really go into a restroom stall with someone right? I guess some people are sensitive about being filmed washing their hands, but that seems fine. A locker room is not considered a public space in relation of photography so should someone do it there you can call the cops on them. I think in general though, at some point we’re just going to have to accept that people have the ability to take pictures or videos of us without our knowledge, if not before then at lesst when we get something like artificial, functional eyes, or some form of neural interfacing.
@@bewing77 You've never pee'd in a men's room where there aren't stalls, just a line of urinals? Or some places still just have a trough. I really don't want people filming there. I think you'll see them revised and returning, but probably not for another few years. They were a little ahead of their time and the design could definitely use a little revision (in terms of looks, functionally they're pretty decent but they do kinda look like fake Dollar Store glasses)
This would be really cool but no landscape mode is a deal breaker for me.
Crop to landscape in 2 seconds. Deal mended. 🤷🏼♂️
@@WilliamStonerock Resolution Obliterated
i think the reason people didnt react was, who would have guessed that random white dot means someone is filming, just feels like it isnt enough as a sign that people are filming
It doesn't attract attention to itself, like how a blinking red light would.
On the iphone I am not able to connect straight on bluetooth, only with the Smart View app.
Without a HUD, its just an IoT cam strapped to your face.
@@WeekendUpdate7 Don't let perfection be the enemy of good
Hopeful the next version will have stereo capture for “spacial” videos also would like 16 hours of battery life as these would be my glasses too, maybe next version if you have always listening off we could get there. Different colors also, maybe tortoise to give it some style
If those could instantly recognize what a Lego part number was it would be an instant buy from me!
Thanks for this review. The portrait only photo mode is a deal breaker for me as I have no use for it but would use landscape frequently. The video limit is a bit of a problem but wouldn't be a deal breaker.
Absolutely! Portrait oriented cameras need to be avoided at all costs for the sake of a quality internet.
Landscape will be possible later this year via an Update. Until then you could crop your Videos from the Library via a Tool from Portrait to landscape
@@importzwerg Thanks - I will wait for the update and then reconsider the glasses, I am not in a hurry to get a new pair quite yet.
@@importzwerg It should be the other way around. The camera should be installed in landscape and then cropped to portrait if that's what people want.
I've never seen so many Rubbermaid storage boxes before, except inside a Dollarama store!

Same. I ordered them from Best Buy. Transition was out of stock, but I’ll only be wearing these when I need sunglasses anyway

Is it possible to get transition lenses with any of the frames? I thought it was just the matte black frames?
@@winsteezy403I have the transitions and progressives in my translucent blue frames.
@@winsteezy403You could get standard lenses then take them to your optometrist to fit custom lenses with transition. I've done this with other smart frames, so don't see why this wouldn't work the same.

How much extra are the prescription lenses?
Since I, as the consumer, can't change out the battery, that's a deal breaker for me. Too bad, I think they're pretty cool.
I'll probably get another one when I can afford it and leave it unfolded when I charge it at night.
im certain the company will hook you up with something if you turn in the broken one with the intention of spending money again with them
K.... so I put my head down on the table and it went from perfectly fine to the same problem.
I'm gonna test their "warrenty"now but on afraid the sunglasses hut around me have no idea how to deal with
I read the policy is 50% outside of warranty... which sounds about right as I've had a fossil hybrid watch go bad after a year and a store knowing the policy and giving me an appropriate discount on a similar watch. Time will see
When the tech looks "cool" (or at least "normal"), that's when you know they're serious about bringing it to market.
The light indicator seems like something that could be worked around via jailbreaking and software revision. Same with the video time limit (which seems odd anyway).
Just cover it with paint or nail polish or tape
Black Nail polish perfectly over the light and not the whole lens will fix this. The indicator is around the light so if you cover just the light and not the whole lens you’ll be fine.
Excellent review. Thank you very much
At first I was put off by no landscape but portrait gets to the point and it's the viewers experience in a way. I'm sold if it's better
Thanks !
Great review. Very informative and detailed. Thanks.
I feel like they designed this JUST for you Norm!
Yup doing that now with them in watching this video
Norms regular glasses compliment his face shape better but the form factor really is impressive.
Thanks for the review mate. Charging 2-3 times a day for average use is no go for me. I need a battery life that lasts.
Very cool video. It is interesting to see the future of these kind of glasses and the future of those features that many people might use.
Very good video, I recommend the EVA glasses case for storing smart glasses very well.
I think it's great to be able to take a photo/video of someone without them noticing.
@@Kamikazeesouleddamn right, fuck selfies anyway!
Just ordered one yesterday. The speakers are surprisingly well. I don't like air pods either
Dude, the design of the glasses and especially of the case is awesome! The simplicity is beautiful. What a leap forward!
They've had dirt cheap tiny cameras for years now available from hundreds of sources online.
Amen for the audio functions- take or leave the camera features
Heard enough as soon you said the light can't be turned off. Thanks for posting anyhow.
Deal breaker
Why would you want to hide you are using a camera? Creepy
To film the police or document someone or something trying to harm you
Yeah but also to film someone without their consent.
Is too tricky to not have in place.
@diogolsq5295 you dnt need consent to film someone in public, especially if they are criminals or crooked police officers
Thought this would be perfect for content until the lighting matching thing, my hair would never let me do this without a beanie😭
Do you have to pair with your phone to take phone calls, or can you pair with your Apple Watch?
The combination of glasses & watch sounds ideal in some circumstances.
I would use landscape 100% of the time. Maybe I will order the next generation.
Crop to landscape in 2 seconds. Problem solved.
@@WilliamStonerockcropped to landscape quality is awful in this version unfortunately. Not to mention the low light capabilities / lack thereof.
Thanks for the review, I almost got them. Decided you made too many good points.
This was the best review. I now want a clear RX pair too. 😂
I don’t know if my eyes are bad but I like the quality of the photos. I get the blurryness with the fast movement but 🤷🏼♂️
Thank you for the review, I will wait for the 6th Gen of these when it much more advance, for now the phones works well
can i make the lens into sunglasses / glasses wear every day if i make it to the glasses store?
Thanks for the video. Out of interest, is there a way to switch off the glasses to save battery? Trying to understand what action switches them on and therefore uses the battery. Is it when the arms are open i.e. on the head?
Hardware switch, i didnt get long enoug through your video :)
Gonna be using these to listen to music while I work at Amazon
Snapchat spectacles are good too, especially considering how new snap was at the time to making physical products.
This was great review as I'm ordering pair of perscription meta-glasses tomorrow. I'm sculptor I want to document more of my process

You are correct, there's don't do what you need
I dont need it to take pictures. I want to read and use it for AR.
The one-minute Video limit is a deal breaker.
i thought the same thing
And the light , pisses me off
Well, it’s three minutes now
That's still a little short, but now it's too old. Might as well wait for the next version.
is there an updated version coming any time soon?
If all they do is record video and take pictures to share on social media I don't get the smart of it cuz it's not like the Google lens or anything similar where you are getting information about your surroundings on the glasses themselves.
Did you watch the video? They look at the world around you and give feedback on what you see via the AI.
It's amazing... thanks for the review

i'm still trying to justify these as someone who don't use glasses and lives in the uk. I think they would be great for fishing, holidays, listening to podcasts while gardening. trouble is that only means a hand full of weeks over here. I think when they have a basic display showing notifications, time, weather etc ill jump in but for now i'm still on the fence.
Great as a body cam for touchy scenarios and safety
"None of my friends and family even noticed the tiny hidden cameras on my face!" is not the ringing endorsement you might think
No, not at all...
