  • Monk solves the mystery of the theatrical murder - what an ever-so-dramatic solve!
    Season 2, Episode 6 "Mr Monk Goes to the Theatre": Sharona's sister, Gail (Amy Sedaris), is starring in a play bound for New York, and Monk and Sharona are in the audience. During a scene, Gail uses a fake knife to "stab" another actor. The actor gasps and wheezes before falling to the floor -- but then doesn't get up. A doctor rushes onstage from the audience and determines that the actor was stabbed in the chest. Gail is immediately arrested and charged with murder. As if things weren't stressful enough for Sharona, her mother arrives for a visit. Sharona tries to push aside her feelings to prepare her mother for the news of Gail's arrest. As expected, Mrs. Fleming is beside herself -- her daughter is being accused of murder! She asks Monk and Sharona to help clear her daughter's name.

    Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.
    The Official Channel devoted to the brilliance of DI Adrian Monk; the defective San Franciscan detective, whose OCD is both a blessing and a curse. We'll be posting the very best moments from the show so, like Monk, you'll never miss a beat.

      They gave the audience much more than a play, they gave them a real-life murder mystery resolved.
      I still find the murder crazy; that he pocketed the fake knife from his chest, then pulled and stabbed him with another - in front of everybody - that must've been a heck of a blind view he had.

      True. But they wouldn't be suitable to be an assistant to a consultant for the cops who actually investigates murders and interrogates suspects if they were like that guy 'Fraidy cop' who kept running away from dangerous situations! Remember that Monk episode? Turns out he was just an actor dressed as a cop... that's why a 'cop' kept running when there was danger instead of doing their job of protecting people! :p

    • @dmf1301
      @dmf1301 7 місяців тому

      Here's a bit of trivia for you: Big budget films sometimes have wax body doubles made for certain scenes, so those you see on screen are not the actor playing dead, but a wax body double. The one for the actor Sean Bean from 'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring' (he played Boromir') was apparently so realistic that someone on the crew asked if the actor would like a drink, since he'd been 'lying around set for ages' - that person thought the wax body double was the real actor! Lol.
      The body double would have been used for the end scene, where they put his dead body on the boat and cast it out to sea for a Viking funeral style arrangement. :p

    • @vincentmutel7313

      You can see in the clip that the fake doctor took the prop and THEN stabbed the actor with a real knife.

      @@vincentmutel7313 I was being sarcastic in reference to the fact that the police had arrested Sharona's sister in the first place for murder. Obviously she wasn't expecting the prop knife to be real, so it wouldn't have been murder even if Monk hadn't proved the peanut allergy theory. It would have been an accident.
      Like how Alec Baldwin accidentally shot that woman on the set of his movie last year. It was an accident - yes, he fired the gun, but he didn't expect the bullets to have been real, so he is not guilty of murder.

    • @vincentmutel7313
      @vincentmutel7313 7 місяців тому

      "That woman" had a name. Halyna Hutchins' death was not ruled an accident. Alec Baldwin has just been charged with involuntary manslaughter. The same might have applied to Sharona's sister Gail.

    • @dmf1301
      @dmf1301 7 місяців тому

      @@vincentmutel7313 Ok, I didn't know her name. Halyna Hutchins then.
      Alec Baldwin may have been charged with involuntary manslaughter (which by the way means it was not intentional, which is basically just one step up from an accident), but there's very, very little chance he will actually be convicted. Obviously I was not there, but as he did not even load the gun, there is no way on earth they will ever be able to prove that he went to work that morning with the plan to shoot Halyna or anyone else.
      Plus... wasn't he already acquitted? Since it was just an accident? I don't know why they're going for a second round, but I think they're wasting their time.
      Regardless... even if he IS convicted, that wouldn't change my belief that it was just an accident. There are plenty of people in jail for crimes that they should not have been jailed for. The reverse is also true... the jury ruled that OJ wasn't guilty of murder, but that doesn't mean that he didn't commit murder. Convictions are sometimes about what story you can sell [to a jury] rather than being about what actually happened... and it's the same for the defence lawyer when they manage to secure a not guilty verdict. They sold the story that OJ was innocent, and the jury bought it.

    • @vincentmutel7313
      @vincentmutel7313 7 місяців тому

      @@dmf1301 I think they consider that this accident was the result of several mistakes regarding security, by different individuals. Some sort of tragic chain of events, if you will. And disregard for security is reprehensible, so not quite an accident. At least I think that's their reasoning, and it makes sense.
      As for the rest, OJ and all, I totally agree with you.

If apparently everybody excepted the story that somehow the knives were changed, and so she "accidentally" stabbed him to death, then......why was the whole convoluted scheme, with peanut oil, and fake stabbing, and hoping there's no real doctor in the house, so her dad can act as the doctor to finally stab him needed?!? Like, wtf!!!

    • @Milktube
      @Milktube 11 місяців тому +1

      Because for normal people who aren't deeply connected whose names are Alec Baldwin, if she "accidentally" stabbed him to death with what was supposed to be a fake knife she would still be guilty of the crime called involuntary manslaughter. A judge could easily decide that any reasonable person could tell the difference between a prop knife and a real one and find her negligent in that regard (even if these things aren't true - if it's what the judge decides then it doesn't matter.)

    If it wasn't for her occasional use of crass language, I'd like Sharona even more. I understand that she's a Jersey girl, but it's my opinion that this series was so good that the writers didn't need to resort to crass language. Many script writers claim that they want to capture and reflect the harsh realities of human culture, but they either forget or intentionally ignore the amply demonstrated phenomenon that life imitates art.

      Stottlemeyer's language was actually far, far worse. (Trust me. I actually went through the series censoring all the curse words for someone, so I know.) No other character on this show even comes close.
      Although you're seemingly perfectly willing to overlook it with his character and just criticise Sharona for..... whatever reason. Do you only notice cursing when it's coming from a girl, or what?
