Yes you can. Some people still choose to keep the ballcock style & replace with another one of those systems, but you can replace with the newer style fill valves like shown in this video. Most kits are universal, but sometimes they may be specific, so just make sure to check the packaging to be double sure it will compatible with your toilet model. In a nutshell - as long as you get a kit that's compatible with your toilet, you can replace what you currently have with the newer style.
