Never going to happen. Even if the Government shut down, they would still get paid. They are getting paid to work in their home states too. If you break it down, they make about $87,000 a year for each and many people make much more than that.

There won't be $2400 checks. IF if passes, it will be $200 over a 12 month period totaling $2400. It's a long way off from being voted on. Way too much opposition that needs to be ironed out.
Be careful what you wish for. That increase PLUS the COLA in January could put many over the cap for the benefits they are now receiving and they will lose them. Will $200 a month pay for everything out of pocket then? No one is thinking about that. There are pros and cons to everything.

There are a lot of good proposals on the table in Congress. Unfortunately none of them that have any relevance to working families will ever pass. It doesn't even matter that the midterm elections are around the corner. There is no urgency to help working families. In the end it's all just a lot of talk.
Have you Googled your state to see if they are doing anything to help their people? There are about 10 states who have said something so far.

When are they going to help retired Floridians,who have to live on SSI. I am a 48 yr woman who was force retired due to a severe vehicular accident in November 2014. I can't begin to understand that I only get 850$ a month n I worked for 28 years. People who have NEVER WORKED GET THE SAME AMOUNT. Makes me sick. All these young people getting breaks,when they need to be getting a job. There are jobs everywhere. No excuse for them.They should get no more break's. Shame on this president. Helping lazy young ppl

Also the feds raise intrest rates by 0.75 percent and are scheduled to do it again twice in the 3rd quarter and twice in 4th quarter which I believe will mean a recession is only months away at best.
They want to do that to try and keep inflation down. Inflation is inflation and we will STILL have it. Their interest rates don't affect me. I'm not looking for a loan or to buy a house, etc.

@@joez4666 - Most people are NOT 'screwed'. They are doing ok right now. I happen to be one of them but I worked my butt off for years and considered disabled, to get where I am today. Unemployment is the lowest it's been in a long time.
They are predicting at east 55,000 people will be travelling over the 4th of July holiday so they are getting funds to do this from somewhere.
When you look at the total population of this country vs those that are struggling, that percentage is low. Unfortunately, it's always been this way and nothing new.
Inflation is high but there is nothing we can do about it. Expenses go up and they are always passed on to the consumer. What we choose to buy because of it, is entirely up to us.

I can afford to take a vacation too but I choose not to. It's too hot to go anywhere right now. If I was going to go anywhere, I'd go to Vegas but they get even hotter than we do.

The majority of our population is doing better than they were this time last year. Over 55,000 people are predicted to travel over the 4th of July. They are getting their money from somewhere. Unemployment is the lowest it's been in a long time. This country IS rebounding but we have to crawl before we can walk.
They are entitled to some vacation time if they have accrued it, just like everyone else. When they are on 'recess' they are not on 'vacation'. That word sends the wrong message. They are usually working in their home states. Every state has issues that need to be resolved. They get that pay for TWO jobs. They will soon be on the campaign trail among their people as well. They aren't sitting around by the pool sipping drinks.
If you think its so easy, why don't you run for office?
Well the gun legislation they've already got 64 votes to move forward we'll see what happens

How should they still get a chance to vacation, if we're suffering they should to suffer, so they can train, greyhound or fly even pay for gas to drive to their vacation spot, but the rest of the country suffers but big time spenders push it in our face, no votes from me, all of our leaders can't handle the country so the stop helping n go on vacations

Every state has issues that need to be addressed and, right now, they should all be working on giving out some funds, from the Covid surplus they received, to their people IF they have the funds to do so. jmho

This administration could care less about your vacation needs or social security issues!! They have invested in our suffering!!
The WH has no say-so in all of this. It's all up to Congress and the states. The President is not part of Congress - he has no vote. He is in the executive branch of the Government while Congress is in the legislative branch.
And the sadness part this is been going for years and years but now the pressure is on the people and the word is going around on who Is not working for the American an I mean all Americans if people pay attention when people spoke about raising the minimum wage it was oposición from the legislators what they don’t see it companies are making so much money and they can help the fellow Americans
