    Working my way through these episodes now that I have a little free time. Have the books as well but I am really enjoying seeing all of the different info on these releases. Just a note about cut corners and promos. I purchased a collection from a local collector in 1990 that really kick started my obsession. Over the years I have had to sell most of that collection due to life stuff. Two pieces that I had to let go were an Alive 2 sealed copy with a cut corner, top right I believe, and the red hype sticker. I always figured it was from a cut out bin. The other was the 76 Tour Sampler that was sealed. I know promos aren't sealed but I have seen a few of these over the years on Ebay that were sealed or still in shrink. Again I got these in 1990 before the internet. Any thoughts?

    I'm pretty sure that advertisement you were discussing was from a Guitar Player mag. I have it in a scrapbook

    Is the dead wax info insanity exclusive to Casablanca, or perhaps its a modern issue? i ask, as i was able to check through the Mother/Master/Stamper nomenclature on the dead wax of my UK Parlophone of Sgt. Pepper's, and discover i have one of the first 1,500 pressed. Got it on ebay for $60, certainly the seller had no idea....has all inserts and i'd grade the vinyl somewhere in the Ex + to M -.

      Dead wax insanity is for ALL records pressed in the heyday of vinyl. We don't have that issue much in today's vinyl market because there are so few pressing plants (one of which I work at ). In the 70's and 80's, there were literally hundreds of pressing plants pressings MILLIONS of records. There's different matrix codes for all the plates used in all the different pressing plants used. It's a nightmare to try to catalog them all. (Jason)

      Hi Jason....i can see how this can spin into a vortex of minutiae. Its odd- Parlophone, being EMI's British (originally comedy/entertainment) division, had to have pressed a TON of Sgt. Pepper, yet kept it all in order. i first verified my pressing provenance 2 months after purchasing it, and double verified it through EMI. i don't even want to think of its actual value, it is sorta frightening...Its only downside is cover wear, otherwise its a peach, likely a valuable peach.
      i don't much about how Capitol handled it in the US, as i only get Beatles UK pressings, but i would assume, they used several pressing plants.
      i would imagine, since you work with a Pressing House, you are familiar with QRP in Salina, KS. They really do it right, and have several old school Pressing Craftsmen.
      Thanks for all your rapid replies, you are kind and informative...great qualities!

    Since you may still be around, has MoFi ever pressed any of the Kiss catalog?

    Your Kiss solo album posters and creatures of the night poster should be framed.

      Nah - I have multiple copies of them. They are pretty common. Better copies are stored safely.

  • @kilgoretrout3966

    i do know some plants don't always switch both stampers at the same time, depending on wear.

    • @kilgoretrout3966
      @kilgoretrout3966 7 років тому

      Also....there should be a pressing plant code, or cartouche in the dead wax, to keep the nomenclature accurate to each plant...Collectors seek Sterling, MoFi and others, as being the best plants. Some markings even tell you who the operator was.

    • @kissmykollectibles
      @kissmykollectibles  7 років тому +1

      Sterling is not a pressing plant. It's a mastering house.

      Quite right, thanks for the correction. i live near Acoustic Sounds/Quality Record Pressing in Kansas, and they are top shelf across the board, and have brought mastering onsite, so my thinking was crosswired. i am better studied on this that my rapid posts portray. i do seek out specific Mastering Houses, Pressing Houses, and yes....i love to get a Robert Ludwig Master, but i am more of an all around high end vinyl guy, despite having been a rabid Kiss fan....until everything after the Farewell Tour...i kinda have a complicated relationship with them.
      Thanks Again!

      i'm not being a QRP shill, but i do own a small Studio, and have had some recordings pressed there in limited runs....very accommodating, and treat small customers with the same respect as large...

      QRP and Acoustic Sounds are fantastic. They did the entire 2014 KISS catalog reissues. They are superb and, in my humble opinion, the top pressings in almost every case of each album in the catalog. FYI - I work for United Record Pressing - the oldest and largest pressing plant in the US.

      It was Universal Music's official store site. I think it's sold out now, but it could be restocked I suppose, since they said there was a sale last year as well. I grabbed one this year, it was 64% off sale.

    WHY does the South African one have the Love Gun Label? As far as i knew, Love Gun is the only LP with the band standing above the spindle hole, in Love Gun outfits.

    • @kissmykollectibles
      @kissmykollectibles  7 років тому

      That is incorrect. There are a ton of releases around the world (and a few in the US) that use the LG custom label. There's an entire series of red vinyl from the UK Pye label that uses them. The RCA record club edition in the US of the first album and a few others use the LG custom label. And several more.
