I'm 33, have no wife or child responsibility, still climbing my mountain and it's not too late for me.... I still get choked up listening to this song. That's the power of Steven Wilson's music. It provokes emotions I didn't know I had.
I am 57 and I just met my soulmate last year. I am happy as hell, but we both wish we had met 30 years ago. To be honest, and I have told her this, I was not ready for her 30 years ago. Nothing to do with her, it was ALL about me back then. Not so much anymore. I finally grew up.
Sitting at work, listening to this song for the first time...Wrong place to do that. Tears running down my face. Only music has the ability to make me cry. And pretty much only the very best music. Wilson has the ability to do that to me and then the next song cheers me up and gets me rocking. ONLY Wilson has that ability to do that to me anymore.
@@agtbruinsman7190LOL, me too! I bawled like a baby at the concert in Montreal when he played "Happy Returns", reminds me of my brother, haven't seen since 1980.
I was just about to comment on how it sounds directly like a song from Stupid Dream / Lightbulb Sun. I appreciate Steven's solo work and don't really care about the fact that PT are done for the time being, but I have to admit that was an awesome little throwback! :-)
A beautiful melody. Everyone has a mountain. Some can look upon it, and be content. Some must climb it, then look down. Almost everything is subjective.
Maybe I'm thinking about it too deeply... He makes 48 seem over the hill, that the mountain is now out of reach. When I was a young man, I thought a 50 year old was ancient. Now that I'm here I find it is not the winding down of life but the challenge of increasing the climb is even more rewarding. Most lyrics I let flow over and through me to try and get the artist's perspective of what he wants to share. This started out great but to me, ended in whining. Steven, Aviv, I'd love to hear from you!
I love all you have said! Steve Thank you. Thank you bring us such Beautiful Music! You have a Instinct that is no other! Beautiful 😢😊 Thank you again Brother!!
I discovered Steven and his various music collaborations about 12 years ago through a friend I respect for his taste in music ( thank you Larry, in my city by the bay) I have never been the same!
A wonderful song about life, love, family and other worthwhile things, that has been putting me in a good mood since I discovered it over two years ago in April 2019. Thank you for this gem, Blackfield.
I saw Steven Wilson live in december 2016, was a dream come true, seeing him perform in India. This song just made me feel nostalgic of all the songs he played....
during a start-up presentation I was (point blank) asked to give a short quote and this song just popped into my head. "Do it now 'cause time is running out." Thank you SW (and Blackfield).
Then between 13 and 17 I'd dreamed of all the things I'd be and how I'd see you all from high on a mountain and know I could take it Then between 19 and 21 I knew one day that I'd become someone And I'd stand up in front of a crowd and feel them adore me Then from 24 to 25 A girl I liked became my wife I tried It was harder than I'd ever imagined to keep all my dreams alive Then from 28 to 33 A new responsibility, a child And I worked hard to give her a home, to love and to shelter her Then from 44 to 48 I knew I'd left it far too late for sure To climb up the mountain 'cause time's always running away from me
This song is on repeat,i just love it so much ,I love you blackfield ,Blackfiled is incomplete without Steven Wilson so please put some more steven song with the blackfiled vibe like this song.
I dont identify much with most of blackfields lyrics as much as PT but the instrument execution is so deliciously beautiful like honey for the ears. Of course behind all of it we find his majesty SW not to take credit of Geffen and band but SW is a rare specimen who is alive in a time where most of human kind is enveloped in mainstream and only a few have the honor of appretiating him. Im convinced heaven must sound like something SW would create
you hurt and heal the heart at same time Steven . your music and words touch my soul

Oh my god what I have done. After listening once ,I came back and listened to this again and then I stayed here forever.
Reminds me a lot of Stupid Dream/Lightbulb Sun era Porcupine Tree. Great thematic compliment to Where We Would Be and Time Flies.

Yeah.. Steven's Psychedelic Era
I think the chorus melody sounds somewhat like the one in Prodigal from In Absentia. Two great songs!
Esteban Angelo
Best song in the album and one of the best from Blackfield.
Manuel Tiago Pereira indeed. This and October are amazing.

"12 Things I Forgot" seems to be an upbeat, pop rendition/reimagining of this song on Wilson's new album in 2020.
YES I thought the same thing lmao
I came here after the new song!
Interesting. I too came here after listening to 12 Things I Forgot

I'd see you all from high on a mountain and know I could take it

And I'd stand up in front of a crowd and feel them adore me
Then from 24 to 25

It was harder than I'd ever imagined to keep all my dreams alive
Then from 28 to 33
A new responsibility, a child
And I worked hard to give her a home, to love and to shelter her
Then from 44 to 48
I knew I'd left it far too late for sure
To climb up the mountain 'cause time's always running away from me
You pick the place and I'll choose the time, and I'll climb the hill in my own way...
love this song
And then Steven opened up his heart leading us into his private life telling his story the best way he could. Well done Master !
