thank you so much for stitching that together. Bonecrusher was my first true favourite horse at the time (i was 12 yo). Couldn't appreciate the significance of the race until many years later. Although i am not into racing and i do want better welfare for the horses watching that race again was just so powerful to see. Again, thank you for pulling this piece together.
Waverley Star never won another race the Crusher broke his Heart! The Crusher went to Japan could of won the Japan Cup but got sick he almost died he was never the same again he still won races but he might of been at this time the Best Turf Horse in the World first NZ horse to win $1m plus
Greg was calling for ABC radio Bill was calling for ch7 and 3DB Frank was the on-course caller So why was Bruce calling? Ch 10 didn't have the tv rights.
Whilst Bill Collins’ call remains the most iconic, they were all wonderful race calls, magnificent job gentlemen!
All those callers had one thing in common .... they all knew (as did we), that they'd witnessed something special! 😊
Bill Collins call was THE call and easily the greatest race I've heard.

I backed that little blue car with the white roof but it was gone on the turn, ran off the track and failed to run on at the finish.

They didn’t but back in the day each network was either required to, or preferred to, have their own caller if they wanted to show it in replay.

B Mc Avaney of Channel TEN was at peak of calling powers in the late eighties yet suprisingly walked away from it all.
I reckon Bruce was offered far more money doing what he has done since then than just sticking to race calling.
Greg Miles voice seems to have mellowed over the years. I would hardly recognize it.
