Contra was my favourite. Then Contra 3. Then Contra 4 was AMAZING, killer soundtrack and double screens was utilized so well! Not to mention Contra 4 lets you unlock all the previous games making it a "best of" cartridge. Amazing run of games. Great video!

Wayforward is an incredibly talented studio. The Mummy, Bloodrayne, Contra 4( originally called Dual Spirts) Shantae, Sigma Star Story. Thier the unsung heroes of 2D Sprite work. Not sure why Contra 4 never saw re-release but I'd put my money on Nintendos licensing practices. Maybe that particular game, as it was engineered specifically for the DS, is considered a Nintendo property, just that particular game? Not sure, but it's a terrible shame as it's one of the premier run and guns in the last 15 years.
I thought this was a documentary type video explaining certain aspects of each boss and how they changed throughout the series, but this also works quite well as you let the viewer see the evolution for themselves while you filll them with bullets! Nice job :)
I thought the same. A documentary type video about contra bosses will be great to listen to, especially the Alien Cell from Contra Hard Corps which probably was captured from Emperor Demon Gava from Contra 3 Alien Wars.

That Contra 1 boss for the NES was crazy the first time you got to it. Also, the first alien head you face in the level totally psychs you out thinking it might be the end boss. Cheers and great video!

I think I played the first Contra when I was about 6 or 7 (when it was new), and I probably didn't beat it without the Konami code until I was like 20 haha. Playing through with codes and a Game Genie was about the only way to figure some of these games out pre-internet and pre-UA-cam. Thanks for watching!

The Super NES was just great. C3 Alien wars was one of my all time favourites when it came out. Great sound fx, good music, awesome and most importantly fun to play. It had some of the best game mechanics I haven't see in years, even now. Have to say, Contra 3 was a little too easy to beat. More or tougher levels would have been swell.
Ah yes Super Contra, I still remember that one Sunday when I played it and then my Aunt, while cleaning, didn't see the cables and walked through it, destroying the console and my parents became mad at me.
I remember when i first beat alien wars when i was a kid being like "that was way too hard" only for the game to be like sucks to be you beat it in hard mode. Only recently have i beat it in hard mode after a lot of failed attempts.
I could say Contra: Alien Wars of SNES defines more of the game's evolution from NES.. From sound, grafix, and gameplay.. Bosses are more challenging.. But above all they should stick on their original character design based on Arnold and Stallone..
I still remember playing the vertical scrolling levels in coop mode with my brother. You scroll the screen too fast you kill your partner with the bottom screen border of death. 😂

Well sure, but there are some chords people didn't get it in. For example, the mutated Fifield from Prometheus. The CGI unreleased scene was much better, and the Ultramorph alien and space jockeys would've been perfect overkill.
Armored Searle was very unexpected. I mean, the boss itself was very good, but it didn't necessarily need a whole 3rd phase on the way out. Happiest "what the fuck" moment of all my life.

Contra, Street Fighter, and Metal Gear Solid are my 3 favorite series ever. I got Contra Anniversary Collection and been playing it with my kids (they like it, but can’t pass the first levels lol). I’m hoping they release Shattered Soldier. That one was really good for being a modern update (at the time).
They did a great job with that collection. It would be cool if they did a follow up with the PlayStation-era games. I think Shattered Soldier may be a PSN game, but just one of those PS2->PS3 ports without anything new. Only on PS3 if it’s even still available. Contra 4 didn’t really get enough love being locked on the DS either. The 2-screen gimmick probably makes it too hard to port, unfortunately.
@@DoctorBadvibes I think you’re right about SS being a PS2 Classic on the PS3, but I’d love to see an update like they did with the anniversary collection, maybe even throw in Hard Corps Uprising. I had Contra 4 as well, and loved it, but it would be a tough port due to the dual screen action. I suppose they could just eliminate it and make it one though. I played the demo of Rogue Corps and it was just horrible. Hopefully they’ll go back to their roots with the next one, a,though I didn’t even think RC would happen.

Contra, Street Fighter, and Metal Gear Solid are my 3 favorite series ever. I got Contra Anniversary Collection and been playing it with my kids (they like it, but can’t pass the first levels lol). I’m hoping they release Shattered Soldier. That one was really good for being a modern update (at the time).
They did a great job with that collection. It would be cool if they did a follow up with the PlayStation-era games. I think Shattered Soldier may be a PSN game, but just one of those PS2->PS3 ports without anything new. Only on PS3 if it’s even still available.
Contra 4 didn’t really get enough love being locked on the DS either. The 2-screen gimmick probably makes it too hard to port, unfortunately.
@@DoctorBadvibes I think you’re right about SS being a PS2 Classic on the PS3, but I’d love to see an update like they did with the anniversary collection, maybe even throw in Hard Corps Uprising.
I had Contra 4 as well, and loved it, but it would be a tough port due to the dual screen action. I suppose they could just eliminate it and make it one though.
I played the demo of Rogue Corps and it was just horrible. Hopefully they’ll go back to their roots with the next one, a,though I didn’t even think RC would happen.
