    I’ve wondered about this kit, nice to finally see one in action. Agree. I like the UFO theme. In fact I’d like to see more themed Sea-Monkey tanks to choose from. My favorite thing about this kit is the spoon. (I’ve got a weird fondness for the feeding spoons.) One more video down, John. 799 to go.

    maybe the sudden increase in algae was from the growth food? you said you couldn't identify it, maybe the producer put algae bits in there to promote growth? regardless, those brine shrimp are having the time of their lives

      Would also make sense with the alien theme.
      Since an old alien trope is those tanks on spaceships filled with green fluid

      @realnarwhal 5 місяців тому +6

      I don't think it's the growth food, because all brine shrimp food is just dried dead algae powder, so adding it to the tank wouldn't cause a massive increase in microalgae as seen in the video. I'm pretty sure he feeds his brine shrimp live microalgae that he cultures in his house, so I'd say that probably was part of the massive surge of algae, but it turning that green that fast is very unusual unless some kind of algae fertilizer made its way into the tank

    I recently upgraded my 1 gallon jar to a 2 gallon tank! still the same colony, been thriving for over a year with no need to extra feeding or egg addition. I just top off with fresh water/fertz and do about 20% water change every 3 months or so. i do feed the big juicy ones to my betta to keep the population down, which was the whole reason i started in the first place. I hatch live baby brine for my rasboras, and betta gets adults now. everyone is thriving. Never could have kept the adults alive without your guidance, thanks so much! 😊

    Yes! I've been so ecstatic! You had better luck than I did in hatching the old eggs, mine didn't hatch at all, which is why I included those extra eggs just in case xD. I'll admit I did feel a little faint when I saw you cut notches into the lid 😱! But its your tank and you can do whatever you want with it xD. I was so surprised at seeing the algae growth, mine only grew algae on the bottom sides of the walls and it wasn't much, then again I didn't feed my Sea-Monkeys the Alien food it came with. Pretty sure I accidentally threw it away thinking it went bad 😅 (shouldn't have done that if it gave these results). I measured how much water it fills at the line and it's exactly 12 liquid ounces, which is what is recommended for growing Sea-Monkeys with the official packets. This was such a good review! Oh! And thank you for the mention xD! Hope you have a great week!!!

    I'm a big fan of the magnifying bubbles, but I've never attempted to record live, close-up footage, so I understand your frustration. Sometimes the Sea-Monkeys dart about quickly & sometimes they glide more sedately. My favorite occurrence is when one moves its legs rapidly, but it sort of hovers in one space, as if tethered to something invisible. It looks a bit like a salmon or something, swimming against the current, only there is no current. And having written that, now I'm wondering if this was a sign that a particular Sea-Monkey wasn't a hundred percent fit... Another great video though, & yet another (new to me) kit. Thanks!

    Another awesome video! It's a bit odd the algae was so prolific but I bet the brine shrimp aren't complaining. ;)
    Update on my own brine shrimp adventures for you (since this is your fault LOL)! The Sea Monkeys on Mars I got from your link are doing very well on their little heat pad in the windowsill. No algae growth yet that I can see, but at least two are swimming around looking very much like super, super tiny adults. I cannot get over how small they are! I actually added a few nauplii from the Aqua Dragons to the Mars tank because wow were there ever a lot. In their tank, I'm using the little air stone, heater, and grow light from your site... a bit of an experiment to see which does better, the high or lower tech. XD The air pump didn't seem to have any way to turn it down so I put it close to the surface so it didn't vibrate all the shrimp to bits, ha. It bubbled a decent amount of the water out, and I was afraid to add more because I don't want to mess up the salinity of the tank (there now are dried up salts all over the Aqua Dragons tank- it was easy to wipe off the viewing plastic but I'll need to get something damp to wipe up the blue parts). So they are dealing with about 2cm lower of a water line but seem to be pretty happy so far, jiggling around in that clumsy baby way.
    I'll give you one more update at some point to tell you if I got any to full adulthood, fingers crossed!

    You inspired me to home a colony of my own and I couldn't believe how fascinated I was with watching them hatch and swim around day to day! I have a question though. My sea monkeys didn't grow any bigger than half a centimetre and that was after weeks. Could that possibly be because I didn't aerate the tank often? I really want to home more, but I want to know why they didn't grow before dying off (they didn't die straight away! After about a month and a half). From your fellow Kiwi.
