I think there is a mistake at the very beginning. When you take square root of both sides. I believe that from then on you should continue with 2 options:
((x^3-x)/x!)^2=1
should turn into
(x^3-x)/x!=1 and (x^3-x)/x!=-1
Is that right?

That's ok. However Factorial values are greater or equal to 0. Working with the -1 would make it complex to deal with.
