Will, not sure where to put the 8mm drill bit, and do you close the roof to that point on top of bit. could you get a measurement from top of slid roof?
I'm so thankful for your expert video. I'm doing a simple headliner install but this Jag is giving me major headaches. Thank you for showing those gears and alignment. I had to spin my gear about 50 increments to finally see the white dot on the bottom larger plastic sprocket. Then the box will not snap into place. The clip barely catches. I'm assuming dry heat has shrunk the plastic? Lol. This car had a white plastic zip tie holding the box in place as well. I don't want to Jerry rigg it up because my customer has deep pockets and a long time friend. But this cheap $150 job is already costing me 4 days. Prob 2 more days if I guess right because I may have to drive 45 minutes to a huge junkyard if this box and or motor proves to be junk.
You're welcome! I remember something about the zip tie in the TSB, I think you were just supposed to cut it off? Can't quite remember. And yes it's a total pain to get it to reclip in again!!!
brtlliant ! My roof is not st in the wong position, i get out the car lock it and realise that the roof is up slightly, then i have to fiddle about and checking to see if its closed right, real pain in the arse, i will sort this out on the next dry day ! thanks !
one more question, the rear spring clips on the inner panel that snaps back into place. are those spring clips facing rearward or frontward? I can get the front part clipped in but not the rear part
What I can understand is with the module out of the way I should be able to manually move the roof with the screw driver. if It moves correctly it is the SLCM that needs adjustment/replacement?
Hey, no guarantees but that would be a good start. You don't need to remove the SLCM to do this though. You can just move the sunroof back and fourth and make sure it has the whole range of movement. If it does, then I would re-zero the module. Perhaps the cable slipped at one point and the zero got out of place.
@@WilliamGreenlee I removed the inner panel and also removed the SLCM, the 2 white "dots" line up in the top and bottom "windows" so I guess that's the "zero" calibration point? I tried opening my roof using a screwdriver but it gets stuck going backward just like when the motor is energized. I will remove the motor just to make sure it doesn't have any broken teeth (or is that rare?) probably will need to replace the whole slide assembly ??
DUDE!!! Ok!!! When taking a look again at my set up. I found someone had tie-wrapped the SLCM instead of using the rear clip to put it back up in place firmly. That may have been 1 problem! Second thing I found is the rear pins that hook into the rear section of the sliding roof (material part) was unhooked on both sides!!! I snapped them back in place and put the SLCM back in place firmly and TAAAA DAAAA, Roof works like a CHARM!!! No need to remove the headliner and do all this extra work!!! Thanks again for this AWESOME VIDEO!
I have an x300 where the tilt works but as soon as i try opening the roof the panel goes down about 1/8 inch and just stops. stuck.......... would the re-"zeroing" of the SLCM help this? Or is it the roof panel mechanism that's messed up? My car only has 90k miles on it
Madness isn't it that a 20+yr old car with usually hundreds of thousands of miles on them occasionally have faults with components that have been operated thousands upon thousands of times in their life.
@@sideshow4417 yes when you comapre other manufacturers from the same era jaguar is by for the worse with quality and electric components that are plain junk .... and are never ment to last ..... take an point a honda from the same era some of these cars have a ton of miles on them and relatively no problems....
Huh. You know I think I might have had the acronym wrong in my title. SLCM is Security Locking Control Module, which is located in the trunk and can control starting/no-starting. This is the sliding roof control module in my video.

Nice Video mate! I wish you would show the panel removement cause I need to repaint my roof (rust spots). 😀

Thanks Will, a nice simple explanation.
You're welcome. I made this video because I think a "nice simple explanation" was needed!

Amazing how many electrical gremlins these car have ...

Very stupid question, My 96 XJ6 has a no start no turn condition, One of the things it tells me to check is the SLCM,, Why?
