Goodbye LiveU Solo - INSANE BUDGET IRL Stream Setup for UNDER $800
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лип 2024
- A complete IRL streaming backpack setup costing less than $800? It's possible! No more $2500+ backpacks, and $300+ monthly fees to run them. Using latest tech like H.265 and SRT, you can get basically double the quality for the same bitrate, or maintain a much more solid connection, without sacrificing the image quality. With a few clever tricks, your PC at home, and some free tools, you can make your own streaming solution - including disconnect protection, auto scene switching, alerts, overlays, and more!
In-depth, how-to videos covering every detail of the setup are coming soon!
Technology has come far enough that you don't necessarily need a 4G bonded connection to run a smooth 1080p outdoor stream. Heck, even the bonded ones break when you enter a dead zone.
Of course, this setup is not meant for pros, as it's reliability isn't as good, but it's more than enough for the average IRL streamer. It works with your iPhone and Android devices as well, if you want more than Streamlabs can offer.

@sprEEEzy You are a genius! For way too many months I've been trying to figure out how to do the exact same thing. The only downside is the Night Hawk is AT&T and T-Mobile and I have Verizon. Now time to figure out how to get the OBS to work and start buying these parts to build this. Cheers!
So now I'm sitting here with $600+ in my Amazon cart for no other reason than being impressed by how well thought out this is.
Cheers man!
Hi Tim.
Did you end up trying this in the end? If so, how did it work out for you?
Yeah, what Robin said! Did it work?
Yeah Tim, what Robin and Niko said! Did it work?
Really cool guide! I have been considering getting some more expensive IRL equipment, but this setup makes it an absolute no-brainer!
Amazing video man, this is the solution i was looking for to stream at 100mph plus on track. Shout out to the Triple E club and Spreeezy for putting this together! Nice work!
This is the solution I have been looking for to stream sports, unencumbered by A/C power and cabled Ethernet! It is great.
The only issue is that I am not as up to speed on the software part of this setup, so I'll need to watch your videos to brush up.
Thanks again, this is what I need!
you don't know how long I've been trying to find a video of someone explaining this. Thank you
Cheers, stop by our Discord for a chat as well!
Very neat, this helps finish my current hotspot bonded streaming set up that I've been test streaming directly to Twitch.
Mate, this is brilliant! I just tried my first twitch today from the batbike. Just gopro through phone to twitch. I lost connection on fast roads frequently and bitrate drops periodically. I think i may try this hardware combo. My power is sorted from the bike so thats no issue. Might wait while summer for now. Motorcycle season nearly over. But this is the next step for me, if my stream goes anywhere. Thanks again pal.
Fantastic work. With a more powerful powerbank and a proper mobile 4G router you could get a really sweet compact setup. I have no interest in live streaming whatsoever but this video made me want to set this up just to prove how well it could work.
Was at loss to power my Jetson Nano 4GB for IRL but the 12V Step up cable saved me! Thanks!!
Wow - this seems so cool. I began thinking about IRL streaming recently and this setup is certainly more affordable than other setups I've seen (LiveU etc.). Of course I'll need to watch a few times to fully understand it 😁
I'll be releasing separate videos on each part of the setup! First one already out
Nice setup, looking forward to seeing more videos.
This is great, thank you. Been using my own custom solutions and always looking to expand and innovate
The demo of SRT vs RTMP is actually pretty insane. I'm surprised Twitch and UA-cam both don't support it natively without a middleman to convert it.
Good video!
Yea .. it’s not that great I’ve been trying 4 months to get it going properly on a really dodgey connection. It helps but still a PITA
I have had this video in my "liked" for like the last 6 months super scared to take this jump into different content creation. I watched this video atleast 30 times in between then and now. Yesterday, I finally pulled the trigger and bought all the stuff needed and I just want to say THANK YOU!
Hurray! Now to set it up!
Did you try it ? :)
thankyou sooooooooooooooooooo much.... I'm an aspiring IRL streamer and I find it all quite confusing but this ONE video... honestly made it so straightforward to understand!
Glad I could help! Stop by the Discord if you need anything else.
I just found this VOD and thanks to u I will stream my BMX Session !
i do luv ppl who shares valuable information
Instead of using a step-up cable, you could get a USB-C power bank compatible with Power Delivery (PD), which are very common these days, and then use a PD trigger to trigger the 12V output. Some battery can even output 20V@3A with PD, which gives 60W.
this was a kick-ass guide, I really pressed all the youtube buttons on it, great job!
Yayaya!
Ay Spreeez very nice man! You are making me wanna make tech videos again.
Oye sprEEE, the knowledge you obtained through tweaking your setup is friggin' amazing! This is super useful info & I hope algorithm helps you - it's a must see for all IRL streamers.
Also 1:33 , who are these supermodels .. got their number?
I really like this easy set-up and m looking forward to buy it
Amazing !!!
By the way I am eagerly waiting for your game highlights
thank you very much! great to learn about this affordable option.
holly hell, aint nobody telling the secret juice like you did. respect!
thank you for this video, will definitely look into investing to a setup like this
Awesome video! Expensive product/service don't mean always best solution.
Great video dude!
I'm planning on using this to create a channel for live moto-vlogs. Appreciate all the help.
THIS IS PERFECTION!!
Very interesting i will be watching all your videos on this subject. Thanks
Love it when folks go all McGyver with tech solutions :-)
thank you for introducing this alternative 🙂
super cool I came across this video am starting my IRL STREAM very helpful
THIS IS AN AMAZING VIDEO!
definitly gonna try this
awesome and helpful video!
Nice. I'll have to check out your IRL streams again. I tried watching a while ago but the quality and stream dropouts were pretty annoying haha
Awesome dude!
I use my LiveU solo as a portable streaming PC for my gaming laptop, do you have any idea how I could replace the liveu solo with something like this without an extra streaming PC?
You can indeed stream straight to twitch/youtube with this setup, just have to use x264 and RTMP instead of x265 and SRT.
Is the 1080p60 on x264 better than the liveu solo?
@@TheGodlyNoob It should be the same, as LiveU uses that as well. TBS is better when it's using x265 & SRT.
@@sprEEEzy can you use x265 to stream directly to youtube? I see youtube supports h265 with HLS or VP9 with DASH
@@TheGodlyNoob You might be able to, but I'm not sure if it's officially fully supported yet.
great video ty
You can fly domestically with the Power Oaks, but they aren't allowed on international flights, unfortunately. They're super handy for streaming all day and charging multiple devices. Something the smaller power banks can't beat.
Really good video. Nailed the pacing. But what I find interesting/concerning is the lack of support for newer protocols. Why is it that big website always tend to take ages for new protocols to be supported...
I´ve been trying to start a live stream with a similar setup with a gopro hero 5... But it won´t work with a external microphone and that f.... microphone adapter brick thingy you have to use :-/ My question is, does the gopro Hero 7 works well with an external Mic? Thank you :-)
looking forward for the loopy + obs setting tutorial. Thank you
Dudeeee this is what I’m looking for so longgggg !!! I’m a cyclist irl streamer on Facebook!
Idol! Didn't expect you to be in the comment section. I'm starting IRL Philippines on twitch bro.
Cool video. I am wondering what NDI 5 will allow us to do here? I do like the auto switching if the stream is lost.
Very well made and love your tone of voice 👍
Hi SPreezy! Thank you. Great stuff. I think I miss it - where do you put your 4G card?
In the router!
Can this encoder automatically restart the stream if the internet connection is temporarily lost?
Yes. It streams whenever it has connectiom
2:40 - I'm wondering how you put that layer of mapbox, and time/temp . Any help will be much appreciated
I'll make a video on that stuff!
Would be nice
okay, so far so good, at least i can use the powerbanks i bought for my raspberry pies a few years ago, 12v output, just enough to power a SBC
Looks like the TBS-2603 AU is a more versatile option.
It has in and out HDMI and in and out jack's for audio. The last is more practical to connect wireless / dual mic's like the Rode.
The USB on it is for recording, so I guess it can not be powered over USB.
Sure, if you need those options.
If you did want to use your Iphone 12, How would you connect the Iphone to the encoder? Very interested.
this looks like a good build but can it only support one modem? or is it able to combine multiple signals for a better connection like the belabox?
Question unlike the liveU 300+ for double modem per month. How much is this set up and how hard is it to set up in full srt server and what not thanks!
GOAT
Very nice setup. Will I be able to use this with a DJI Pocket 2 instead of the gopro?
did u try it out?
Very good video. I would love to live stream while i'm on my way home from work and soon i vill start a house rebuild that i would love to live stream aswell.
Will this work with Streamlabs OBS or do i have to get the standard OBS ?
I keep coming back to this video. Thank you for this. This might be a lame question , but can I use a camera even if it isn't Hdmi as long as I have a proper adapter?
Hey! Probably, but it'd depend on the exact case.
Hi, thanks for the videos, How long can the router and encoder powerbanks stand?
question from someone who knows nothing about streaming - would it not be possible to just use my laptop as an encoder? run the camera through a capture card, into obs, then to the obs on home pc? sorry if this is stupid lol
Not stupid at all, but unfortunately, your laptop would probably overheat in a backpack.
@@sprEEEzy ty for the reply! good point, is that the only reason? I'm planning a completely static stream but outdoor far from WiFi, so wouldn't be a problem to set it down somewhere to give it room to breathe. I've got a reasonably alright laptop, prob not the easiest task for it but also doesn't seem like it should be impossible? very helpful video btw!
@@JoeJenkins Well, another problem with laptops is getting enough power. They burn fast thru the battery while encoding + an additional external big battery ($150+) sometimes isn't enough.
Other than that, if it has a good Nvidia card, should be fine!
@@sprEEEzy ok ty appreciate the help!!
Yeah should work. Or use a mini pc.
You probably don't need a good gpu for that and use the build in Intel.
But ofcourse it's not turn on and work. You would need to be able to operate it, f.e. with a remote control program from your phone.
Maybe some thing could be automised with scripts when turning it on.
This looks like a very nice option to spending all sorts of $$. Thanks for the video and sub'd your channel. Not sure if I can get by the tech stuff but since I have a cell phone and a GoPro hero 9 with the wrap around device that gives you the 3 ports you need...I might just give it a go. I've got the audio solved with my wireless GO. I'm just concerned with the quality of the video.
Question: Is the PC and Android compatible or am I wasting my time?
Lovely
Cool setup, but one thing is that these days that bulky battery isn't necessary since you can power a LiveU Solo with any a usb c PD battery and a cheap cable to adapt usb c to 12V DC (the difference between this and those step-up cables you used is that this way it is the battery bank doing the DC-DC conversion which will do it more efficiently than those cheap cables and have a max current of whatever the specs of the battery are).
I want to clear though I think what you've done is amazing, SRT is a way better protocol (as you likely know LiveU's own subscription service uses a variant of SRT) and the bandwidth savings H265 should help a lot when you a poor connection, overall I would expect a much more stable stream (especially if you are comparing to LiveU without the subscription)
Hey, yep, you're right about the batteries. In my case, I've used whatever I had around the place - even the router. The PD batteries are obviously the way to go. If you wanna know more on latest developments, join us in the Discord discussions: discord.gg/spreeezy
Cheers!
Hey! I know this may sound dumb but does your internet plan just carry over to the mobile router? Like if you have xfin or just whatever can you use that with unlimited data? Or do you have to get something special just for that?
Hey, you put your sim card in your router!
Hi , just checking how you run OBS on the move ? is there a portable pc/mac/linux? Not mentioned in your gear list or in your youtube
obs is ran from home pc, the mobile router sends the feed back to obs, which streams it to twitch.
lets go champ
Can you have multiple cameras in irl and switch between the two via the encoder? Or is it controlled via obs?
Thank you for your tutorials. In regard to the OBS Tablet Remote website, I am having trouble connecting from an LTE connection. For the "Host", do I simply put my public IPv4?
Hi! I saw many people complaining about how the M1 has issues with overheating, which can make the speeds go really low or even shutdown itself. Do you managed to solve this somehow? Thanks for the vid!
Hey! Just remove the battery and use it w a power bank!
@@sprEEEzy Awesome! Thanks again!
whats the "m1" ?
so i finally pulled the trigger and bought all the items so I could do travel irl streaming, with that being said I wont have access to an entire PC so how would I go about this using these items. Could I just use my phone or is this build only possible with a PC running obs to connect to? Im very new to this so this may all sound really dumb, any help is appreciated
Can you make an update video for 2023? This is so in-depth and very helpful
Nothing much changed!
Any ideas on power consumption for this setup?
I am looking at streaming for over 4 days in a stretch. Might be avle to swap some batteries once or twice.
It was a very detailed and easy-to-understand video. Thank you very much.
But I don't know how to transfer data from 4G mobile router to middleman PC. Do you have any reference videos?
Hey, check out the full IRL setup playlist!
Thanks, this is very inspiring! I just start to stream and want to use my mobile to start with and a full size camera plus Yolobox later on. I plan to stream on events, so I do not need an action cam. I do understand the encoding part, but if you are on your bike, how does your streaming PC get your WIFI router signal and where do you have the streaming PC. I guess not in your bike shirt back-pocket? Thanks for your reply & best wishes from Berlin!
Bump
you need to connect the wifi router to a wifi net as you phone. The PC for streaming can be at home.
The routers shown in this video are Sim card capable routers. meaning you put a mobile network card in them to send and receive data
Thanks for this, do you have a tutorial on how the setup is done? i.e. how your computer at home gets the video feed? TIA!
Can I use yolobox for this. This looks really high tech
What if I live in a country with poor bandwith, about 1mbps. Any way of using multiple sim cards and merge the speed? Thans a lot for the video btw.
Hey, there are more expensive options. Try googling "4g bonding"
A clear vid on srt would be super helpful. I've just started looking into it.
Coming soon!
@@sprEEEzy def gonna join the discord , when i can affort the 800 dolar solution, ive got my faith in you. Hope this realy is the next big thing
Just what I’m about to build for to be installed on my motorbike.. long wintertime shortened
How can about microfone? any tips? because in some loud streets its hard to hear the voice on gopro, since gopro has a sensitive mic.
Does anyone know if the encoder supports SRT?
Edit: i just finished watching the rest of the video, and i feel really stupid. Thanks!
great video! well explained and nice visuals. although I don't think this is a better than a liveu definitely something to consider for something less budget! dropped a sub & follow
Thanks! It does in fact output 50% better quality video, given you can maintain the same bitrate. It's for places where coverage is decent.
@@sprEEEzy This is no longer true since the release of the LiveU Solo Pro, which supports HEVC (H.265) and so essentially achieves the same thing, also achieving cellular bonding over LRT, making it overall a better option once again.
@@nark4837 Sure, for a higher price.
I own a cellphone, action camera and powerbank, but no encoder. And I can't buy one anytime soon... Can I still stream with my phone (with or without action camera) and use my PC as backup for playing an intermission scene when my 4g is down?
Great!
7:40
"you can't even take it on a plane, because you're on the no fly list"
Filmicpro has great image stabilization and hdmi out now.
Hey! :)
Is there meanwhile a better choice, with the cam/encoder, because the video is 1 year old kinda :)?
Thank you!
i dont have a pc at home but i do have a mac laptop. do you need home internet? bc i usually use my unlimited phone hotspot
ty for this vid!!
AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME. Any tips on having multiple video inputs? (say multiple phones/cameras)
Video coming up on that :)
@@sprEEEzy you da man :)
@@sprEEEzy One more question. Love the GPS map on the overlay, what do you use to get the GPS data to your home server? A video on that part of the setup could be cool too. thanks again!
If you have a GoPro but it’s older and doesn’t have a microphone jack (Hero 7 silver) - do you foresee any issue with using a different encoder that includes an audio in along with HDMI?
I see some on Amazon that appear to have this capability
Depends on the model. It might get more expensive. I'd say most gopro 7+ mics are quite usable, especially if you EQ them a bit. U may not even need an external mic, if that fits your use case.
@@sprEEEzy thanks for the advice! I’ll definitely be looking into this. I have streamed from my phone before but it wasn’t too great and used up all my high speed data. So I’m looking into cheap prepaid tablet/hotspot plans to possibly couple with a backpack for peak efficiency!
What kind of person would dislike this video? Who doesn't like saving money? Who likes paywalls? Who likes getting ripped off?!
Thanks sprEEEzy! You're a gentleman and a scholar.
Genius
Thanks for the in depth explanation. I saw a streamer display a speedometer on her cycling stream one day. Do you know how to do that?
I have that as well, I'll most likely do a video on that
@@sprEEEzy Wonderful!
dude, just say the Sony is better. everyone already knows.
but this is cool, this is really cool. i was working on basically this, staying up all night n shit, when i found the barrel plug to usb thing everything clicked in my mind. i was just sort of lost on the software end of things. i'm extremely impressed.
and the obligatory
Ip2 ALWAYS WINS.
What makes LiveU unique is the bonding that prevents signal-loss in crowded/distant areas? How is this on this setup?
I realized this was possible when I started dicking around with OBS - but youve actually done it! Great vid!
will streaming on 4gb from the modem be good enough? Im worried I will run out of wifi space going in 3 hours live streaming. The longest Id want to irl stream would be about 6 hours or so thats why.
