10.) OK Computer by Radiohead
9. ) London Calling by The Clash
8. ) Nevermind by Nirvana
7. ) Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
6. ) Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
5. ) Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
4. ) Are You Experienced by The Jimi Hendrix Experience
3. ) IV (Untitled) by Led Zeppelin
2. ) The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd
H.M.) Metallica - Master of Puppets, Rage Against the Machine - RATM, Appetite for Destruction - Guns'n'Roses, Exile on Main Street - Rolling Stones, Horses - Patti Smith, Born to Run - Bruce Sprinsteen
1.) Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles
bless
ThePangalactic You should automatically go to heaven for this.
ThePangalactic
They should've put Appetite close to number one if not number one. It's got three of the biggest songs of the eighties on it and is also the best selling debut album in the history of rock n roll. It also completely changed rock. It kicked out the boring glam and gave the world this power house that knocked you on your ass.
Kurt Adams Manic Street Preachers
I remember when Sergeant Peppers Lonely Heart Band came out. It was completely unlike anything that had ever come before it. It was the mother that spawned many and varied children.
Sgt Pepper has the double distinction of being the best album and the worst movie ever.
Excellent point! Many people seem to be overlooking that this list contains albums that were important in rock HISTORY; thus, they should have the distinction of breaking new ground--charting completely new musical territory--in addition to being incredibly great albums in their own right. Further, they need not have necessarily been the most popular at the time of their release; widely influential albums often aren't. Therefore, I can't BELIEVE VU & Nico wasn't on there. Or The Stooges for that matter. I'd kick off Radiohead and Pink Floyd and replace them with the ones I noted.
sgt peppers is overrated shit, and clowns jump on the bandwagon with these surveys and opinions. if your going to have an opinion make it genuine,
@@MrMallorcaboy Mike Gagne told accurately what was like when Sgt Pepper was released. He lived that moment. Is there any more genuine opinion than that?
@@MrMallorcaboy I think you meant "original", which is ironic given your statement. I've never heard anything of the sort before.....
Not sure how The Velvet Underground & Nico didn't rate at least an honourable mention
Sadness
pain
I love Nico’s voice. And her harmonium playing was eerie and sublime with her voice. She was amazing.
Muhahahaha
and court of crimson king
-Revolver
-Pet Sounds
-Velvet Underground and Nico
-In the Court of the Crimson King
-The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars
-Dark Side of the Moon
-Black Sabbath
-Apatite for Destruction
-Are You Experienced
-Never mind The Bollocks
HM:Loveless-My Bloody Valentine, Led Zeppelin IV, Ok Computer-Radiohead, A Night at the Opera-Queen, Is this It-The Storkes, London Calling-The Clash, Never mind-Nirvana
Agreed. I can't argue with your list. It's solid.
I’d argue close to the edge is more important and timeless than in the court
Slint - Spiderland
Much more relevant list!
Where is the Shrek 2 Soundtrack tho
Right?!? Cant believe it wasnt here
XD
Eels.
love
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah
shrek is drek
the 4 70's Pink Floyd records starting with Dark side are classics.
I agree with you on three of them. Animals is not a classic
joey1979 Animals is better than The Wall, to me. The Wall has a couple of great tracks but not a great album as a whole.
Very interesting. So tell me what do you like about Animals? Is there a track in particular that you would consider a classic?
All of them are great, but Dogs is the obvious one for me. Some of the best Floyd lyrics in that song, and instrumentally too.
So in which order would you place these four albums?
A lot of commenters are missing the point that this is not meant to be a list of the best albums - but those that were most important mainly due to being iconic, ground-breaking and transformative.
Don't know how Bowie's name wasn't even mentioned. Doesn't seem right.
Or Guns n Roses
who do you remove?
Hugues Jouffrai Dylan......but that’s just my opinion
Yeah and queen, like wtf
I knoooowww right?? Like Bowe and The velvets?!?! Hellooo?!?
A Night at the Opera - Queen
In the Court of the Crimson King - King Crimson
Hot Rats - Frank Zappa
Last two are good. Queen never made a classic album. Singles band.
Not entirely true abnout Queen.
I can agree on the fact that none of Queen's albums would stand as a cornerstone in rock music as instead do all their hit-singles, but many of their albums have a deep and accomplished meaning as a whole.
Just to make a couple of names, Jazz is simply amazing (perhaps their best).
Hot space is brilliant with its style unity.
And so on...
Crimson King is one of the worst albums I have ever listened to. Not because the songs were bad, but because they trick us with one amazing song at the beginning and then have the rest of the album be absolute shit.
None of those
+Zodiac581 Queen one was on The pop list. also listen to a night at The opera IF you haven't 12 songs 12 different genres (Almost)
Do one with hip hop
7tebo In the works.
Signed,
KG
7tebo Hopefully that song that talks about being gangster and having money and sex with girls makes it in! Oh wait that 97% of them
***** Enlighten me please
***** If only you took the time to actually listen to hip-hop for once...
No
Deep Purple's In Rock. One of the heaviest albums ever released at the time, and still continues to influence hard rock and heavy metal today.
But Black Sabbath was more influential
@@davidstoyanoff In Rock is responsible for much more 70's & 80's bands than anything else, IMO.
@@garynorcott6409 Eh, that's debatable but no doubt that Deep Purple and Black Sabbath both shaped metal.
1. Pet Sounds
2. Nevermind
3. Revolver
4. The Velvet Underground & Nico
5. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
6. London Calling
7. Blonde on Blonde
8. Exile on Main St.
9. Highway 69 Revisited
10. Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols
I’d swap places of Revolver and Pet Sounds and the places of Sgt. Pepper’s and The Velvet Underground & Nico, but other than that, this is a perfect list. 👍🏾
Having lived through the time, Zep II was more influential than IV, and The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust has to be there.
How about other famous Zeppelin albums such as "Houses of the Holy" or "Physical Graffiti"?
James Mathhew the band itself was so influential but they could only pick one
I would pick Led Zeppelin II over IV any day... it's the definitive hard rock album
James Mathhew Houses and Graffiti sure are Zep’s definitive masterpieces. But They came out when Zep were in their prime. Infact even IV doesn’t deserve a place in this list. II is their best hard rock album it’s gotta be either I or II which deserves place on this list.
@@Nred9999 i mean both of those albums I and II showcases what Zeppelin were all about but I is more prog blues jazz pop psychedelia but II is more defentive hard rock acid classic rock..i think no one cann topp that
Almost 20 years later and OK Computer still sends chills down my spine. What a great fucking album.
Mia Moore this is a list about influential albums, not spine chilling ones
God, I tried to love that album but every time I listen to it I'm bored to tears. Another massively over-rated albums imo.
@@mhibbing1 overated and boring music
Best album ever
Smashing Pumpkins - Melon Collie & The Infinite Sadness & David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars should at least get an honorable mention!
The smashing Punpkins was a great album, but how influential was it? I'd say similar for Radiohead OK Computer. Wonderful album, but influential or Important?
Raidiohead like velvet underground was influential to musicians ....but deserves on here for sure.
In the Court of the Crimson King deserves top 5 at least. It is truly a masterpiece.
No
@@fredi1505 yes
Just one great innovative song. The title begins with the letter 2.
@@davidwilliam2722 That's an extremely stupid thing to say. There are unarguably 4 and arguably 5 masterpieces on that album
@@rumelaarya Congratulations on having an opinion on what constiututes a masterpiece. I have mine on what constitutes innovation. For information, I bought that disc on its day of release.
My favorite albums:
1. *Animals* -Pink Floyd
2. *In the Court of the Crimson King* -King Crimson
3. *Thick As A Brick* -Jethro Tull
4. *Foxtrot* -Genesis
5. *Moonmadness* -Camel
6. *I, Robot* -Alan Parsons Project
7. *Fragile* -Yes
8. *Brain Salad Surgery* -ELP
9. *Selling England By the Pound* -Genesis (excuse me for having more than one entry for one band)
10. *Fear of A Blank Planet* -Porcupine Tree
skuyo0703 Thank you. That's the best response I could get
skuyo0703 I really like Aqualung, especially the song "My God"
skuyo0703 Yes. Those are great songs!
+Michael Edwards I take it you're a man who appreciates the finer things in life. And by finer things, I mean progressive rock.
Brad Lawrence Why, thank you
my favourite albums
nirvana - nevermind
michael jackson - bad
queen - greatest hits (compilation album so what)
oasis - definitely maybe
eminem - the marshall mathers lp
ac/dc - back in black
and my favourite of all time
pink floyd - the dark side of the moon
IMO, the wall was better than dark side of the moon
+kaylee x.x grunge is a branch of rock -_-
+1ranjeeves21 TOOL. not the band....you're a tool
In my opinion, The dark side of the moon isnt their best album, sure, it is a very important album in history, but my favorite has got to be Pink Floyd-Animals, Meddle or The wall. All of their albums are great though.
+1ranjeeves21
Oasis' best album is Morning Glory imho. Definetly Maybe is great, but most of my favourite Oasis songs come from their second album: Don't Look Back In Anger, Some Might Say, Champagne Supernova, Roll With It, Wonderwall and Hello.
A few of my favourite albums are (no order)
- The White Album (The Beatles)
- Abbey Road (The Beatles)
- Exile On Main St (The Rolling Stones)
- Kid A (Radiohead)
- The Wall (Pink Floyd)
- Animals (Pink Floyd)
- Physical Graffiti (Led Zeppelin)
- Dirt (Alice In Chains)
- Pinkerton (Weezer)
- The Blue Album (Weezer)
- Pet Sounds (The Beach Boys)
- Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (The Beatles)
- Revolver (The Beatles)
- (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (Oasis)
My top
10.smash-offspring
9.nevermind-nirvana
8.dookie-green day
7.rumours-fleetwood mac
6.ride the lightning-metallica
5.sgt. pepper's lonely hearts club band-the beatles
4.led zeppelin IV (untitled)-led zeppelin
3.the dark side of the moon-pink floyd
2.In the court of the crimson king-king crimson
And....
1.the piper at the gates of dawn-pink floyd😍 (it's in my heart) sid barrett is just a genius
@Hayden Palmes They couldn't even toss The Doors a bone?
I’ve been listening to 50s-60s music lately, and Bob Dylan’s Highway 61 album had lyrics that were 10 times more complex than anything people were doing at that time, just nuts
True and he influenced countless writers. I prefer Bringing it all Back Home.
If this list was made in the last week it would be like:
10. The Beatles - Sgt Pepper
9. David Bowie - The Next Day
8. David Bowie - Aladdin Sane
7. David Bowie - Hunky Dory
6. David Bowie - Low
5. David Bowie - Let's Dance
4. David Bowie - Scary Monsters
3. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
2. David Bowie - Heroes
1. David Bowie - Blackstar
+The True Fizz Hunky Dory and Low need to be higher...or lower :D
+The True Fizz do you like bowie??? jaja
Bowie was good, but also vastly overrated. He appeals to theatrical types.
+Simon Watts Bowie was pretty underrated until he died.
+Ben Lauter Bowie wasnt underrated, he just hadnt had any hits in a while, probably since "Blue Jean"
How can you not include Tommy by The Who
agreed!!
Polski Prince If there was gonna be a Who album, it'd have to be Who's Next.
Polski Prince Shit I didn't even noticed that ! What a shame...
toadfan64 Agreed
toadfan64 But Tommy was the first Rock Opera, Who's Next is just a standard album, but with a lot of hits on it.
The Who’s Tommy was the first ever rock opera, surprised its not on here
Same, it’s my favorite album of all time
it isn't the first ever rock opera though
The same thing can be said, King Crimson's In the court of the Crimson King was the first Prog metal album, and that one was A LOT more influential than Tommy
Everyone else : Talking about Revolver and Sgt. Peppers
Me : Where is the White Album??
Revolver and White Album are the best Beatles albums
In the list there can only put 1 song from each band or artist
How about Abbey Road, that’s my favorite album of all time
If the White Album was reduced to one disc it would be revolutionary.
The doors debut album should've made the list or at least LA Woman
I love both of those. And Morrison Hotel.
Strange Days is the best Doors album, all the songs are incredible
I think Bob Dylan is the greatest lyricist of all time.
I think Thom Yorke
+PhilbinVideos yes
+Peter Haberlehner tommm
***** Well, they ranked his song the greatest of all time. Did they rank him as best musician of all time as well?
+Robert Conlee it's not even a competition really. Highway 61 Revisited at 7 is a joke, it is the most important document in rock history.
Definitely agree that Dark Side and Sgt. Pepper are absolutely 1 & 2. You mentioned The White Album and Abbey Road from The Beatles and The Wall from Pink Floyd, and rightly so, but Wish You Were Here and Revolver both deserve a mention as well. For me the 1 really glaring miss is Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
"Pet sounds" by the Beach Boys was a masterpiece according to "The Beatles", they said it influenced them heavily.
It had to be on the list. :)
Aaand?
JC Pepper And what? I've written it clearly enough.
Sgdf 0. I believe it. Those 2 bands had nothing but praise for each other. The Beatles loved ELO as well, some members said that's what the Beatles would have wanted to sound like if they'd stayed together during the 70's. I think it's great they praised each other.
beatles influenced by others yet they dissed those that they influenced as copying,
What about In The Court Of The Crimson King?
Olga Maroszek Fripp would agree!
Absolutely. This is the album I hoped would have made the list (but knew it wouldn't).
Dobre pytanie
That album could turn you into an *evil* scientist.
i totally agree, one of the greatest progressive rock albums ever created.
OK Computer is the only album I've ever heard that truly keeps improving indefinitely with each listen.
The Wall
Any Beatles album.
Amen brother
Most Pink Floyd tracks are quite grandiose, and then there are the moments of pure ambient noise, but they don't necessarily keep revealing subtle complexity. You can get your head around a Pink Floyd album in a dozen listens.
Hey hey, most liked comment here.
Most important albums
1.Revolver-The Beatles
2.Bringing it all back home-Bob Dylan
3.Rubber Soul-The Beatles
4.Never Mind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols-Sex Pistols
5.Highway 61 Revisited-Bob Dylan
6.Velvet Underground and Nico-Velvet Underground
7.Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars-David Bowie
8.Tommy-The Who
9.The White album-The Beatles
10.Piper At the Gates Of Dawn-Pink Floyd
10.Are You Experienced-Jimi Hendrix
Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
9:41 Ever heard of Abbey Road?
The Abbey Road release was the Beatles showing off to the rest of the music world. The song writing and the production quality have held up so well. No better opening song for a side 2 than Here Comes The Sun. None.
Abbey Road is my favorite album.
Jazzie Red best beatles album by far imo
It is a vet good album, one of my favorites, but Sgt peppers is the definitive Beatles album
Sgt Pepper might be more influential but Abbey Road has better songs.
Pixies' Doolittle at least deserves an honorable mention. It broke alternative rock, without it there'd be no OK Computer or Nevermind.
Come on pilgrim and surfer rosa are more influential imho
dość wolny I enjoy both of those, but I think the definitive Pixies album is Doolittle. Thom Yorke has even said that Doolittle is the reason he's making music. I don't think people noticed the uniquity of the pixies until Doolittle. But I LOVE everything they made before recent times. Now they're shit.
I been going through Frank Black's solo old stuff... there's some gems in there like All Around the World
In my opinion Doolitle stands till today as the last time a band managed to make something new in rock music and when i say somethin new i dont mean by any means to belittle what has happened in rock since 1989 but lets face it nevermind ok computer kid a the strokes have been nothing but a group of respectable bands trying to revamp this genre .all those album mentioned felt like a standing on the shoulder of giants moments however when you listen to Doolittle it feels like some explorer making his way into an uncharted territory "terra incognita" just sayin
Without Pixies there would be no Nirvana
10: radiohead - ok computer
9: the clash - london calling
8: nirvana - nevermind
7: bob dylan - highway 61 revisited
6: the beach boys - pet sound
5: black sabbath - black sabbath
4: the jimi hendrix experience - are you experienced?
3: led zeppelin - led zepellin IV
2: pink floyd - the dark side of the moon
honorable mentions:
metallica - master of puppets
rage against the machine - rage against the machine
guns n roses - appetite for destruction
the rolling stones - exile on main street
patti smith - horses
bruce springfield - born to run
1: the beatles - sgt peppers lonely hearts club band
10. Iron Maiden (Iron Maiden)
9. Highway 61 Revisited (Bob Dylan)
8. London Calling (Clash)
7. Automatic for the People (REM)
6. Appetite for Destruction (G n´R)
5. Houses of the Holy (Led Zep)
4. The Queen is Dead (The Smiths)
3. Nevermind (Nirvana)
2. Led Zeppelin 4
1. Physical Graffiti (Led Zeppelin)
Yeah, this list is not too bad overall, pretty good job for Watchmojo :
My list :
1. Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (Art Rock to a high level)
2. Pet Sounds (Pre-Sgt Peppers)
3. Highway 61 Revisisted (Important in lyricism and announced the classic rock revolution)
4. Are You Experienced? (Defined rock guitar playing)
5. In The Court of the Crimson King (Defined prog rock)
6. Black Sabbath (Influential on metal, but debatable overall)
7. Nevermind (Popularized grunge)
8. Raw Power (Punk defined)
9. Led Zeppelin I (Hard Rock blueprint, influential for musicians everywhere)
10. Tommy (the first rock opera, influential for bass and drum playing)
Yo where's Pink Floyd
Pretty generic list ngl, also yeah where is pink Floyd?
I mean it’s fine, it’s all good music
Pink Floyd and Radiohead deserve to be on that list. Their influence and the change they made to the music world is greater than most on that list
@@Nikola-if5jm In the court of the crimson king already has its spot for progressive rock, The piper at the gates of dawn could be mentoined for pyschedelic rock
Their list:
10. Ok Computer - Radiohead
9. London Calling - The Clash
8. Nevermind - Nirvana
7. Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan
6. Pet Sounds - Beach Boys.
5. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
4. Are you Experienced? - Jimi Hendrix Experience
3. Led Zepplin IV - Led Zepplin
2. Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd

Master of Puppets - Metallica
Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
Appetite for Destruction - Guns 'n Roses
Exile on Main Street - Rolling Stones
Horses - Patti Smith
Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
1. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles
If i'm remember master of Puppets by Metallica is a trash metal album
Black Sabbath is metal... not rock
Not the best album but surprised Never Mind the Bollocks wasn't mentioned for being a tad influential...
Actually, no David Bowie's album is important to music. No one. They're good, cute, awesome, but not so important.
But personally David is the most important phenomenon in XX century cunlury.
sex pistols were a boy band
Harri the sex pistols were essentially a political movement they changed the public viewpoint and opened up the eyes of so many to the alternative lifestyle showing you don’t have to be the same as society wants you to be, don’t think you can really try and put that in the same bracket as one direction
Harri No they weren’t, they were punk
We're pretty vacant and we don't care
In my mid teens I bought Quadrophia.Pete Townsend's work of complete genius.I was convinced he was singing about me.Also Hawkwinds live album Space Ritual deserves a mention.
What “lukewarm” reception to Nevermind are you referring to? It was for all practical purposes an immediate hit critically and commercially.
The 1st time I heard "Teen Spirit". I had to hear more of this band. I thought it was the best song I ever heard at the time. lukewarm was the water I spilled while turning the volume up.
@@walkwthbeer2164 I remember being fascinated with this band-who became a life long obsession to me-when i heard Teen Spirit. It was unlike anything I'd heard before. It wad so loud and raw. I just fell in love. No other band has effected me like that since. I love the Beatles as well but by the time i was 14 or so and really got into them,i already knew the songs-most of them-so it didn't have that incredible I've never heard this type of stuff impact that Nirvana did.
Hard to do it with only ten in the list. But this is not a bad effort. Predictable - but not bad.
Best point in the whole thread.
tdunster2011 i missed queen on this list...
Slevin I know! People think this list is subjective, but we are talking about the most influential albums, not the greatest! Dumbasses on these comments!
Closer - Joy Division.
nice
Atta be
+Classical Music11 its absolutly missing... its not one of the greatest albums of all times - the record invents Darkwave, Gothic Rock, Neo Falk an everything what the dark scene is
+Classical Music11 I agree it should be there. But then again, I like my Joy Division to be still un-acknowledged by the mainstream so we can have SOMEthing truly alternative.
+Classical Music11 i agree. any smiths album too imo
Van Halen's first album should be there. It was a game changer for rock guitarists.
Van Halen was amazing. He inspired me to start playing guitar.
We could all literally argue about the top 10 most influential rock albums until the cows come home but I think that anyone who does not see that Sgt. Pepper is undoubtedly the most influential rock album of all time is crazy. It literally changed music history forever. Out of every influential album there is, that one’s impact is felt to this very day. However, I do agree that not including Velvet Underground & Nico is also insane. Should be at least an honorable mention. I mean, the album artwork is a literal banana and yet it is one of the most recognizable album covers in the world. The influence and impact is massive.
Imo Revolver was more influential. Sgt Peppers does only slightly more than Revolver, and revolver came first
10. London Calling- The Clash
9. Pauls Boutique- Beastie Boys
8. OK Computer- Radiohead
7. Bringing All Back Home- Bob Dylan
6. John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band- John Lennon
5. Led Zeppelin II- Led Zeppelin
4. Fear of Music- Talking Heads
3. Animals- Pink Floyd.
2. Velvet Underground/Nico- Velvet Underground
1. Revolver- The Beatles
These are the albums that have had the mpst impact on me. I probably forgot some that I've liked more but these are my go to.
Daniel Mcgreevy Damn,I thought I was the only one who remembered the Talking Heads.
That's actually a very good list..!! There are MANY good lists!!
Daniel Mcgreevy you are shit without Queen night of opera
Revolver? nah stfu
Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath?
Sgt. Peppers was good, and important, but The Beatles' "Revolver" even more so.
I agree completely with that one
Publius Velocitor agreed
I don't understand why Watchmojo gives no love to Revolver... isn't that basically the Beatles OK Computer?
Easily the most revolutionary album ever, all the sound, the genres, the instruments, it was something completely new
Itapi Coolest true but.....when I’m 64?
If I were to rework this list it would be:
1.Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967, The Beatles)
2.Pet Sounds (1966, The Beach Boys)
3.Are You Experienced (1967, The Jimi Hendrix Experience)
4.Led Zeppelin IV ( 1971, Led Zeppelin)
5.Highway 61 revisited (1965, Bob Dylan)
6.The Dark Side of the Moon (1973, Pink Floyd)
7.Exile on Main Street (1972, The Rolling Stones)
8.The Velvet Underground & Nico (1967, The Velvet Underground)
9.London Calling (1979, The Clash)
10.Rumours (1977, Fleetwood Mac)
The one album per artist rule applies here
Another beatles fanatic godd save them
max torres I like Boston by Boston a lot too
Back in Black and Brothers in Arms not even in honorable mentions?!?!
Sebastian rojas
Definitely back in black. Absolutely belongs in the top 10..
top 50 lol
Back in Black didn’t really change anything. It might’ve been a good album, but it doesn’t really change the way you look at rock, it’s just kind of straightforward rock
Brothers In Arms is not that good as you think it is. There are way better albums than this.
arid bitch it set the tone for other Hard Rock acts that showed up in the 80’s
The Velvet Underground and Nico influenced damn near every band that ever mattered since it came out. Most of the punk scene of the 70s, Talking Heads & Television, R.E.M. as well as the pixies. and on to the Strokes and most of the bands that saved rock in the 2000s. All the albums mentioned are great and influential, but to not have this album on it just seems wrong.
***** You and me both. They could have at least done Surfer Rosa
+Jonathan Mota Hear, hear! The list is so typically conservative and banal
+Jonathan Mota you are right, it is without doubt top 10.
+TexasChainsawJesus Couldn't agree more. Even tho it was a short run, they still have a damn near perfect discography
+Jonathan Mota It wasn't famous when it came out was it?
The dark side of the moon and sgt pepper's lonely heart's club band are in whole level above every other album ever created
Throw in Tommy, Disraeli Gears, and the first Doors album and you pretty much have your top 5!
Pet sounds belongs up there with them.
Pet Sounds is the greatest album of all time.
...The Cure Disintegration change my life, in the list A Night at the opera...
Do they even know Deep Purple? Not even a honorable mention for "In Rock"? This was the heaviest music you could listen to in 1970, even heavier than Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.
ROAD To The Top But see this list is going by influence and not actually how good it is. Personally I hate The Clash and Nirvana but they were influential which was why they were mentioned. And honestly the album this guy is talking about probably deserves to be mentioned too considering it's apparently "Heavier than Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin" *going by his word lol*
ROAD....have you ever listened to Deep Purple in ROCK or Machine Head ? Or possibly the greatest live album ever...Made in Japan ? apparently not...please get informed.
Beenthere Donethat
"The Dark Side of the Moon was a commercial and critical success. It topped the Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart for a week and remained in the chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988. With an estimated 45 million copies sold, it is Pink Floyd's most successful album and one of the best-selling worldwide."
But yeah, like you say, nobody liked it.
Deep Purple. Now there's an overrated band. Pre-Gillan was way more innovative.
@@davidwilliam2722 I don't think they're overrated, but I agree that Mk I is underrated, lots of great and innovative stuff from that era.
I feel like Dark Side of the Moon could be one of the most important albums ever. It's up there for sure.
The wall is way better in my opinion
Swan Films Piper at the gates of Dawn is better than all of them.
Animals anyone?
Swan Films too much filler. its quite exhausting as well
DrewZepp by the influence on the future Dark Side is the winner, but my all time favorite is Meddle..
Here's my list:
1. In The Court Of The Crimson King
2. Spiderland
3. Loveless
4. In the Aeroplane Over the Sea
5. Banana
6. Kid A
7. Soundtracks For The Blind
8. Surfer Rosa
9. The Doors
10. Nevermind (I prefer In Utero however Nevermind is a more important release)
Yes, suffer rosa, Pixies. Definitely.
Yeah, In Utero is a better album
William Magee these aren’t my personal favourites. These are the albums that created new genres and defined the modern music. I guess Spiderland not so much and SFTB should be replaced with Spirit of Eden, but others I think are spot on...
"Nevermind exploded across America faster than hair bands could say leather pants, or hairspray."
yes!
Punks not dead, its just passed out, drunk on the floor....
Joe M I like your picture. Tré Cool, nice.
Joe M Tré
Punks fucking dead if you consider green day punk.
R.I.P. Punk
Kaden Prado Punk pop ;)
There we go, don't mix up pop punk and punk.
You can keep your pop punk
But don't associate it with real punk.
Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars!!!!
+Christian Malcher Hunky Dory as well but Ziggy was trail blazing
+Jesus Man Christ, it wasn't even the best album of the early 70's.
Might not of been the best but its importance was over whelming.
Agree! My favorite songs (though every song on the album is good) are Lady Stardust, Soul Love, and Five Years... Yes, best album ever.
+Chris Richards Hunky Dory is my favourite Bowie album
Almost perfect list! Bravo watchmojo! I would have changed the order a little bit, but it’s very difficult to argue against the way you structured the results. I applaud your conclusions and reaffirm my decision to subscribe to your channel with this post!
William Magee, depends on what you consider rock music to be. I would agree that Pet Sounds is definitely pop-esque. But for that matter Bob Dylan is more folk than rock and Sabbath is more metal than rock and even The Beatles are more experimental pop than rock, but I don’t think that the impact on the genre of rock, as a whole can be disputed to a great extent here. I don’t particularly even enjoy the Beach Boys, but Pet Sounds was a landmark album in Pop/Rock.
Feel like the first velez underground album should be on here somewhere
I totally agree
Agreed
vamo Vélez
I don't understand why everyone has to be rude about the opinions. This is what they see as the top ten, everyone has different opinions you can comment your list without tearing down other musicians.
beth But who's opinion is watch mojo going by? I'm sure this dude narrating doesn't even know half these albums, so obviously it would have to be someone else's opinion, but who's would it be?
No Queen?
Jay L can you name one Queen album that's important in rock history?
Queen is absolutely terrible
News of the World
hempoki Night at the Opera?
Steve The Steve McStevens
and why it's important in rock music history?
The Dark Side of the Moon is the best album ever. RIP Rick.
Imo The Wall is better, but everyone has different tastes
1. The Wall 2. DSOTM 3. The division bell. Those are my top 3
A Human Being eh the wall is ok
Huh
Bence led zeppelin iv daha iyi
I think the most important albums from Led Zeppelin is their debut one, because it opened new genre - hard rock. The most important album in hard rock history.
And the debut album of King Crimson is more important than The Dark Side Of The Moon, since its release progressive rock started.
My top10:
Sgt Pepper - the greatest album in history, the greatest thing made by the greatest band
Led Zeppelin I - mother of hard rock
Deep Purple in Rock - genius son of mother hard rock
In the court of the Crimson king - father of prog rock
Pet Sounds - unique album that made the Beatles to create sgt Pepper
Black Sabbath - father of heavy metal
Are you experienced - grandfather of hard rock
London Calling - the best album from punk rock band
Nevermind - Renaissance of true rock
Ok Computer - the last great album in rock history
The Beatles revolver should have been in the list or at least gotten an honorable mention
Yes Doctor Robert, I Want to Tell You, and Love you to is my favorite from the album
It's more of a pop album than rock
Hayden Hahn nah bruh
They only do one per artist
@@haydenallen23 nice name mate
Here is my list, just ignore about the genre or type and put yourself deep in music.
1.Dark Side of The Moon
2.Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
3.In The Court Of The Crimson King
4.Highway 61 Revisited
5.Nevermind
6.A night at Opera
7.OK Computer
8.The Velvet Underground and Nico
9.Use Your illusion
10.The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
Totally agree with your list
I would switch Switch Sgt Pepper and DSOTM. Good list though.
There's an old words in China says" It's not possible to find the "best" in a writing contest, nor is it to find the "second best" in a fighting." absolutely same in music@@seethamadhu209
Would replace a night of opera with toxicity
Don’t Forget Led Zeppelin IV
1.- Pink Floyd. Dark side of the moon.
2.- Rolling Stones. Exile on main street.
3.- The Who. Who’s next.
4.- Stevie Wonder. Songs in the key of life.
5.- Elton John. Goodbye yellow brick road.
6.- Supertramp. Breakfast in America.
7.- Beatles. Abbey road.
8.- Eagles. Hotel California.
9.- Simon & Garfunkel. Bridge over troubled water.
!0.- Beach Boys. Pet sounds.
I'd say Led Zeppelin II was the most influential and definitive rock album. Jimmy Page took blues style guitar and modified it to a new rock sound. He basically laid the foundation for rock, metal, etc. Dark Side of the Moon was a great mention. It was the album that got me into rock music. I played the shit outta that cassette back in high school. I was too poor for a CD player or iPod back then.
Close To The Edge: Yes
Selling England By The Pound: Genesis
Wish You Were Here: Pink Floyd
Red: King Crimson
Hemispheres: Rush
The Underfall Yard: Big Big Train
Clutching At Straws: Marillion
Brain Salad Surgery: Emerson, Lake, & Palmer
The Dreaming: Kate Bush
The Robbery of Murder: Salem Hill
Piece of Mind: Iron Maiden
A Night At The Opera: Queen
Shoot Out The Lights: Richard & Linda Thompson
As The World: Echolyn
Thanks for Close to the Edge:-)
I didn't even notice, but you're right. 11 out of the 14 I listed are British (I'm American).
They might have a prog top 10, and lots on your list would be there.
While a lot of these albums are incredible, I wouldn't say they were as pivotal or game changing as the ones in the list.
prog rock produced a lot of boring albums indeed
the only one i liked was in the court of crimson king
PFFFFFF!!!
In The Court Of The Crimson King?!
COME ON!
Right?!
No Crimson. No Deep Purple. No Cream. Funny Mojo.
Ok what about Abbey Road, Rubber Soul, The White Album and Revolver?
I think the list was one album per artist
Beatles aren’t t h a t amazing
Kian Francis I think that the Beatles are the only artists that have 5 perfect albums
Javier Muñoz López yeah they’re the best band ever. Their success is even more impressive since they were only making albums from 1963-1970
Ch1nmus1c 1
hell yes they are
My list
1. Sgt. peppers
2. Pet sounds
3. Dark side of the moon
4. Nevermind
5. The wall
6. London calling
7. Abby Road
8. Rumours
9. Revolver
10. Are you experienced?
David Bowie the rise and fall of Ziggy stardust and the spiders from Mars should've been on the list
Bigby the big boy Definitely! I fucking hate it when lists and people like these seem to forget David Bowie is an important figure in rock and the music industry as a whole. He has plenty of respect but doesn't, if that makes any sense.
Yeah I mean he's by far my favorite musician (I mean Hunky Dory is my profile pic) and although it's not his best album Ziggy Stardust completely changed the music industry!
Bigby the big boy I feel like that album should've at least of gotten an honorable mention, and I agree, it's not one of favorites also. Personally for me, my favorite of his stuff is The Berlin Trilogy, and Scary Monsters. Again, highly influencial albums.
Agreed,Ziggy Stardust should have been on the list. But Deep Purples Machine Head should have been in there too.
Ziggy stardust .....mejor álbum por lejos..una obra maestra de David
How about AC/DC's Black Album? Every song was a hit, and dozens of bands have sighted this band and this album as major influences in their own music.
First concept album is Frank Zappa's 'Freak Out'! (also you have 'The Piper at the Gates of Dawn'. Sgt. Peppers', 'In the Court of the Crimson King' and so forth...)
my top 10 off the top of head but not in order.
Boston - 1st album
journey - infinity
bowie - ziggy stardust
devo - freedom of choice
fleetwood mac - rumors
zeppelin - 4th
cars - 1st album
big star - #1 Rocord
beatles - let it be
jim croce - you don't mess around with jim
hey what about greatest hits. yeah a lot would be the same with me
bee gees
boston
journey
zeppelin
jim croce
gordon lightfoot
beatles
john denver
jimi hendrix
CSNY - along with solo careers
but the again i'm sure happy i don't have to pick. i could easily list 10,000 songs over the pass 100 years and there would be another 10,000 more i would want to add. the latest song i just added to my phone is Brookside - Jimmy the Chameleon. music is the one thing that makes us all so happy. why limit it.
I'd call The Beatles 'Revolver' the most important album in rock history. When rock and roll turned into Rock.
+metafis Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones?
In terms of a full length LP, I'd regard Jimi Hendrix's debut to hold that title.
Nothing against Revolver though, I reckon it was The Beatles finest hour along with Abbey Road.
+metafis nah rubber soul is up there too though
+Henry Murray actually rubber soul and revolver are pretty much the same album.
ya thats why
+Petar Živojinović Umm.. no
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
Wire - Pink Flag
Fugazi - Repeater
I'd say Confusion is Sex, Evol, and Sister are more important than Daydream Nation. Confusion is Sex is probably the greatest no-wave album, and Evol and Sister are creative masterpieces, and while Daydream Nation is fantastic, it just isn't as good as some of the earlier stuff
I doubt Nirvana's Nevermind would even exist without Unknown Pleasures. I doubt British indie rock would sound how it does without it also
Pushon Bhattacharya You're mistaking great albums with influential ones, the ones you listed didn't have a massive influence on their respective sub-genres, certainly not to the extent of the ones listed in this video.
AlexTheTvGuy you're funny
Pushon Bhattacharya Nope, nope, nope, nope ANDDDDD, nope.
Not even an honorable mention for Hybrid Theory. Whether you liked that wave of music or not, it certainly was influential
Ok computer is the dark side of the moon of our generation
Bronx Bomber1983 id say the Revolver of our generation...
I'd say Lateralus
@@jollygrapefruit786 naahh, lateralus fits more with King Crimson

excellent choice, but T.Rex's Electric Warrior should come before it ...
I don't even listen to Bowie much but I love that album
Definitely deserves it. It's not my favorite of his albums, but the influence/importance is there.
I can't disagree with any of the requests for David Bowie album on this list.
Okay now top ten beach boys songs
They have that
I cant found it :(
The Probably not
Right!? I've been suggesting this on the website for months it needs to happen already
God Only Knows. Best. Song. Ever

2)The Beatles - Abbey Road
1)Queen - A Night At The Opera

1. Led Zeppelin IV
2. Abbey Road
3. Back In Black
4. Dynasty
5. A Night At The Opera
6. Rocka Rolla

7. Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
6. Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
5. Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
4. Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
3. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles
2. Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath
1. The Dark Of Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd
HB: Are You Experienced? By The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Nevermind by Nirvana, Untitled (Led Zeppelin IV) by Led Zeppelin, Machine Head by Deep Purple, Dirt by Alice In Chains, At Fillmore East by Allman Brothers Band, and 1984 by Van Halen, Thick As A Brick by Jethro Tull, Appetite For Destruction by Guns N Roses
YES DARK SIDE OF THE MOON IS AMAZING!!!
Your profile picture almost killed me.
It is unnecessary to State the obvious
@Key for a sec i didn't get it, cause i am in night mode
I've always been much more of a fan of Floyd's previous work. The only album I especially love after Dark Side is Animals. But I understand the hype for it still.
@@iansevertson4131 i love pink floyd, but i don't know how to love Animal album.
Dark Side of the Moon has been on the Billboard 200 Album chart for over 18 years in total. It peaked at #1 in April 1973.
My favourite album in rock history is TRUTH by the legend guitarist Jeff Beck, he of course had some help with this album , people like Rod Stewart, Moon the Lune and a certain Ronnie Wood plus others so you then understand why this Album was going to be so good.
My top ten favorite albums (updated):
1. *In the Court of the Crimson King* -King Crimson
2. *In Absentia* -Porcupine Tree
3. *The Raven That Refused To Sing (And Other Stories)* -Steven Wilson
4. *Frances the Mute* -The Mars Volta
5. *Animals* -Pink Floyd
6. *Foxtrot* -Genesis
7. *Thick As A Brick* -Jethro Tull
8. *Moonmadness* -Camel
9. *Toxicity* -System of a Down
10. *Deadwing* -Porcupine Tree
Since I only have nine bands there, I'll keep going til there are ten:
11. *Fear of a Blank Planet* -Porcupine Tree
12. *Fragile* -Yes
Porcupine Tree is like the MOST underrated band ever
No Man's Sky Footages I'm trying to help that fact. I got all my friends and family into Porcupine Tree and they're getting everyone they know into them.
Love how you got loads of classics then system of a down appears
Mad For Games I love SOAD actually. I know they're faaaaaaaaar from prog, but there's something about their music that just is really likeable.
***** both are really great albums.
Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention’s first album, “Freak Out!” absolutely belongs in this list. One of the first double-LPs, and definitely a concept album, “Freak Out” didn’t so much drop, but detonated on the scene.
Great album ! But, not heard by many people.
@@huesevers4532 It inspired Paul from the Beatles on Sgt peppers
Ok Computer should have been higher ranked then number 10

1- Dark Side of the Moon / The Wall
2- Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and Spiders from Mars
3- Sgt Pepper Lonely Heart Club Band / White Album
4- Are You Experienced
5- Led Zeppelin IV
6- Appetite for Destruction
6- Brothers in Arms
7- Rumours
8- Tommy
9- OK Computer
10- Nevermind

2 Revolver
3 Sargent Pepper
4 Are you experienced
5 Led Zepplin 1
6 Dark side of the moon
7 Paranoid
8 Master of Puppets
9 Never mind
10 Appetite for Destsuction.
Why Rubber Soul ? 1965..... You had rock, pop, folk, folk rock, rockabilly. You had some studio techniques used that were later used on Revolver and Sargent Pepper. It was the beginning of modern music as we know it today.
I'd put Led Zeppelin 1 ahead of 4.
+James Murray or Led Zep II
My three most favourite Zep albums are HOTH, PG, and III.
John Cornell Dazed and Confused is in their first album. I know its not an original song, but still is problably my favorite. Very solid album, no "meh" songs in it
+James Murray Exactly! *Good Times, Bad Times*, Dazed And Confused, *Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You*, Communication Breakdown and the other five are all incredible songs!
+James Murray I always consider Houses of the Holy to be their best because it contains the least amount of stealing. I think it is their first creative album
Missed Ziggy Stardust for sure.
Better than Radio head for sure
WOW!! This is the best video WatchMojo has ever done!! I have complained about this site almost always but this one you got almost right!!! The only album that should have been listed is The Moody Blues Days Of Future Passed.
I do agree for the most part. I do wonder if Van Halen (1) didn’t have influence on rock to come. So many guitar players studies Eddie’s style of playing
Yes. Rock guitar before Van Halen and after Van Halen is very different. Van Halen I is a very important album. Ask just about everyone.
Deep Purple In Rock? Machine Head??
The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rock critics are still blinded by commercial success. The Beatles sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rock critics are often totally ignorant of the rock music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Beatles did anything worthy of being saved.
putumban96 truly, you are the crimson king of memes
putumban96 The Beatles are the most commercially success musical act of all time. The have certified 265 million albums sold with claims as much as 600 million sold. And it isn't the commercial success that make them the most influential. A vast number of Rock and Pop acts cite The Beatles as key influences. Even King Crimson was known to play Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds during rehearsals.
putumban96 Amen.
Another person who can't grasp the brilliance of the Beatles. Cry me a fucking river, your opinion counts for shit
Jimmy Hunter Don't worry, he's just repeating a common internet meme
My list in no particular order is:
Rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust
London Calling
Who's Next
Nevermind
Bohemian Rhapsody
Black Sabbath
Sgt Pepper
Led Zeppelin 4
Highway 61 revisited
Dark Side of the Moon
Absolutely. Nothing can or ever will touch the Beatles!
@Sally Knight Lot's of people will prefer different bands. But they're wrong!
@@chrislox1 they're wrong for having personal preferences 😁ok bud.
Some of you are looking at this the wrong way. This isn't a list of "favorite" albums. It's a list of albums that most changed Pop and Rock music because they were released. Sgt. Pepper because, before that album, everyone sounded like they were recording inside of a garbage truck (i.e. Twist and Shout). Post Sgt.. Pepper, full symphony orchestration, w/strings, brass, woodwinds, and any other sound you thought was interesting throw in were possible. At the time, there were 3 people/groups competing to define Pop/Rock for the future; the Beatles (Lennon/McCartney), Dylan and Brian Wilson, and each of their best Albums is here. The other albums present something new, or helped define a new movement for the masses. London Calling is more influential than Sex Pistols because the Pistols had a limited audience. The clash brought punk to the mainstream. Radiohead weren't the first, but they were considered accessible by a larger audience. Nevermind just changed everything, period.... genius is just genius. So once a new musical genre became part of the mainstream, it helped influence whatever came later. So Back in Black or Appetite for Destruction may be your favorite albums, but they don't represent something new or a significant change in what was already being produced.
