They should've put Appetite close to number one if not number one. It's got three of the biggest songs of the eighties on it and is also the best selling debut album in the history of rock n roll. It also completely changed rock. It kicked out the boring glam and gave the world this power house that knocked you on your ass.
I remember when Sergeant Peppers Lonely Heart Band came out. It was completely unlike anything that had ever come before it. It was the mother that spawned many and varied children.
Excellent point! Many people seem to be overlooking that this list contains albums that were important in rock HISTORY; thus, they should have the distinction of breaking new ground--charting completely new musical territory--in addition to being incredibly great albums in their own right. Further, they need not have necessarily been the most popular at the time of their release; widely influential albums often aren't. Therefore, I can't BELIEVE VU & Nico wasn't on there. Or The Stooges for that matter. I'd kick off Radiohead and Pink Floyd and replace them with the ones I noted.

Just to make a couple of names, Jazz is simply amazing (perhaps their best). Hot space is brilliant with its style unity. And so on...
Crimson King is one of the worst albums I have ever listened to. Not because the songs were bad, but because they trick us with one amazing song at the beginning and then have the rest of the album be absolute shit.

Do they even know Deep Purple? Not even a honorable mention for "In Rock"? This was the heaviest music you could listen to in 1970, even heavier than Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.
ROAD To The Top But see this list is going by influence and not actually how good it is. Personally I hate The Clash and Nirvana but they were influential which was why they were mentioned. And honestly the album this guy is talking about probably deserves to be mentioned too considering it's apparently "Heavier than Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin" *going by his word lol*

Beenthere Donethat "The Dark Side of the Moon was a commercial and critical success. It topped the Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart for a week and remained in the chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988. With an estimated 45 million copies sold, it is Pink Floyd's most successful album and one of the best-selling worldwide." But yeah, like you say, nobody liked it.
Smashing Pumpkins - Melon Collie & The Infinite Sadness & David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars should at least get an honorable mention!
The smashing Punpkins was a great album, but how influential was it? I'd say similar for Radiohead OK Computer. Wonderful album, but influential or Important?
dość wolny I enjoy both of those, but I think the definitive Pixies album is Doolittle. Thom Yorke has even said that Doolittle is the reason he's making music. I don't think people noticed the uniquity of the pixies until Doolittle. But I LOVE everything they made before recent times. Now they're shit.
In my opinion Doolitle stands till today as the last time a band managed to make something new in rock music and when i say somethin new i dont mean by any means to belittle what has happened in rock since 1989 but lets face it nevermind ok computer kid a the strokes have been nothing but a group of respectable bands trying to revamp this genre .all those album mentioned felt like a standing on the shoulder of giants moments however when you listen to Doolittle it feels like some explorer making his way into an uncharted territory "terra incognita" just sayin
Most Pink Floyd tracks are quite grandiose, and then there are the moments of pure ambient noise, but they don't necessarily keep revealing subtle complexity. You can get your head around a Pink Floyd album in a dozen listens.
Their list: 10. Ok Computer - Radiohead 9. London Calling - The Clash 8. Nevermind - Nirvana 7. Highway 61 Revisited - Bob Dylan 6. Pet Sounds - Beach Boys. 5. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath 4. I’ve been listening to 50s-60s music lately, and Bob Dylan’s Highway 61 album had lyrics that were 10 times more complex than anything people were doing at that time, just nuts
Actually, no David Bowie's album is important to music. No one. They're good, cute, awesome, but not so important. But personally David is the most important phenomenon in XX century cunlury.
Harri the sex pistols were essentially a political movement they changed the public viewpoint and opened up the eyes of so many to the alternative lifestyle showing you don’t have to be the same as society wants you to be, don’t think you can really try and put that in the same bracket as one direction
If this list was made in the last week it would be like: 10. The Beatles - Sgt Pepper 9. David Bowie - The Next Day 8. David Bowie - Aladdin Sane 7. David Bowie - Hunky Dory 6. David Bowie - Low 5. David Bowie - Let's Dance 4. David Bowie - Scary Monsters 3. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust 2. David Bowie - Heroes 1. David Bowie - Blackstar
Bigby the big boy Definitely! I fucking hate it when lists and people like these seem to forget David Bowie is an important figure in rock and the music industry as a whole. He has plenty of respect but doesn't, if that makes any sense.
Yeah I mean he's by far my favorite musician (I mean Hunky Dory is my profile pic) and although it's not his best album Ziggy Stardust completely changed the music industry!
Bigby the big boy I feel like that album should've at least of gotten an honorable mention, and I agree, it's not one of favorites also. Personally for me, my favorite of his stuff is The Berlin Trilogy, and Scary Monsters. Again, highly influencial albums.
+Classical Music11 its absolutly missing... its not one of the greatest albums of all times - the record invents Darkwave, Gothic Rock, Neo Falk an everything what the dark scene is
+Classical Music11 I agree it should be there. But then again, I like my Joy Division to be still un-acknowledged by the mainstream so we can have SOMEthing truly alternative.
The same thing can be said, King Crimson's In the court of the Crimson King was the first Prog metal album, and that one was A LOT more influential than Tommy
The Beatles are at number 1 because they should be. Anyone else who says otherwise are out of touch with music period. I'm surprised the Rolling Stones didn't make it I'm there, but Nirvana at number 8 did surprise me. I felt they should have been closer to number one, but at least they made it I'm there. I'm happy with most of the picks.
Billy Disaster Sgt. Pepper being number one, but The Velvet Underground & Nico (which for my money absolutely eclipses ANY album in terms of influence and impact) not even being on the list is a joke. YOU would be the one to be out of touch with music to dispute that. There are actually quite a few albums more important than Sgt Pepper that weren't even given honarable mentions such as Raw Power, Trout Mask Replica, Tago Mago, Surfer Rosa, etc. Hell, Sgt Pepper would not have existed without Pet Sounds, and that only made it to #6!
I've always been much more of a fan of Floyd's previous work. The only album I especially love after Dark Side is Animals. But I understand the hype for it still.
I don't understand why everyone has to be rude about the opinions. This is what they see as the top ten, everyone has different opinions you can comment your list without tearing down other musicians.
beth But who's opinion is watch mojo going by? I'm sure this dude narrating doesn't even know half these albums, so obviously it would have to be someone else's opinion, but who's would it be?

The Velvet Underground and Nico influenced damn near every band that ever mattered since it came out. Most of the punk scene of the 70s, Talking Heads & Television, R.E.M. as well as the pixies. and on to the Strokes and most of the bands that saved rock in the 2000s. All the albums mentioned are great and influential, but to not have this album on it just seems wrong.
Sgdf 0. I believe it. Those 2 bands had nothing but praise for each other. The Beatles loved ELO as well, some members said that's what the Beatles would have wanted to sound like if they'd stayed together during the 70's. I think it's great they praised each other.
10. London Calling- The Clash 9. Pauls Boutique- Beastie Boys 8. OK Computer- Radiohead 7. Bringing All Back Home- Bob Dylan 6. John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band- John Lennon 5. Led Zeppelin II- Led Zeppelin 4. Fear of Music- Talking Heads 3. Animals- Pink Floyd. 2. Velvet Underground/Nico- Velvet Underground 1. Revolver- The Beatles These are the albums that have had the mpst impact on me. I probably forgot some that I've liked more but these are my go to.
We could all literally argue about the top 10 most influential rock albums until the cows come home but I think that anyone who does not see that Sgt. Pepper is undoubtedly the most influential rock album of all time is crazy. It literally changed music history forever. Out of every influential album there is, that one’s impact is felt to this very day. However, I do agree that not including Velvet Underground & Nico is also insane. Should be at least an honorable mention. I mean, the album artwork is a literal banana and yet it is one of the most recognizable album covers in the world. The influence and impact is massive.
+metafis Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones? In terms of a full length LP, I'd regard Jimi Hendrix's debut to hold that title. Nothing against Revolver though, I reckon it was The Beatles finest hour along with Abbey Road.
Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention’s first album, “Freak Out!” absolutely belongs in this list. One of the first double-LPs, and definitely a concept album, “Freak Out” didn’t so much drop, but detonated on the scene.
Definitely agree that Dark Side and Sgt. Pepper are absolutely 1 & 2. You mentioned The White Album and Abbey Road from The Beatles and The Wall from Pink Floyd, and rightly so, but Wish You Were Here and Revolver both deserve a mention as well. For me the 1 really glaring miss is Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
my favourite albums nirvana - nevermind michael jackson - bad queen - greatest hits (compilation album so what) oasis - definitely maybe eminem - the marshall mathers lp ac/dc - back in black and my favourite of all time pink floyd - the dark side of the moon
In my opinion, The dark side of the moon isnt their best album, sure, it is a very important album in history, but my favorite has got to be Pink Floyd-Animals, Meddle or The wall. All of their albums are great though.
+1ranjeeves21 Oasis' best album is Morning Glory imho. Definetly Maybe is great, but most of my favourite Oasis songs come from their second album: Don't Look Back In Anger, Some Might Say, Champagne Supernova, Roll With It, Wonderwall and Hello. A few of my favourite albums are (no order) - The White Album (The Beatles) - Abbey Road (The Beatles) - Exile On Main St (The Rolling Stones) - Kid A (Radiohead) - The Wall (Pink Floyd) - Animals (Pink Floyd) - Physical Graffiti (Led Zeppelin) - Dirt (Alice In Chains) - Pinkerton (Weezer) - The Blue Album (Weezer) - Pet Sounds (The Beach Boys) - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (The Beatles) - Revolver (The Beatles) - (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (Oasis)
This list is worthless garbage without recognizing that album. Without it, you don't get "Ok Computer," "London Calling," or "Nevermind," or 1000s of other albums influenced by it.
The Abbey Road release was the Beatles showing off to the rest of the music world. The song writing and the production quality have held up so well. No better opening song for a side 2 than Here Comes The Sun. None.

I guess we should all be thankful that they didn't put Michael Jackson on the list....
It sold well so it's not like it was ignored, but let's face it, more rock fans had heard of RHCP than Nirvana on release day, so Nevermind is obviously the better album by that reasoning alone. Also, Nevermind is better than most albums by anyone except maybe the Beatles, INCluding Nirvana.
Nevermind absolutely is better than most albums by anyone. I'd put it in the top ten albums of all time in any genre and would be greatly surprised if any serious critics didn't put it at least in the top 25. I believe it was number seven on Rolling Stones list of the 500 best albums of all time.

Just to be clear, since you are obviously slow. My response was to people who said that Pet sounds was influenced by Sgt Pepper. That is impossible since it came out later. This is not about how Rubber soul influenced Pet Sounds. Comprende?
Slevin I know! People think this list is subjective, but we are talking about the most influential albums, not the greatest! Dumbasses on these comments!
Some of you are looking at this the wrong way. This isn't a list of "favorite" albums. It's a list of albums that most changed Pop and Rock music because they were released. Sgt. Pepper because, before that album, everyone sounded like they were recording inside of a garbage truck (i.e. Twist and Shout). Post Sgt.. Pepper, full symphony orchestration, w/strings, brass, woodwinds, and any other sound you thought was interesting throw in were possible. At the time, there were 3 people/groups competing to define Pop/Rock for the future; the Beatles (Lennon/McCartney), Dylan and Brian Wilson, and each of their best Albums is here. The other albums present something new, or helped define a new movement for the masses. London Calling is more influential than Sex Pistols because the Pistols had a limited audience. The clash brought punk to the mainstream. Radiohead weren't the first, but they were considered accessible by a larger audience. Nevermind just changed everything, period.... genius is just genius. So once a new musical genre became part of the mainstream, it helped influence whatever came later. So Back in Black or Appetite for Destruction may be your favorite albums, but they don't represent something new or a significant change in what was already being produced.
I'd say Confusion is Sex, Evol, and Sister are more important than Daydream Nation. Confusion is Sex is probably the greatest no-wave album, and Evol and Sister are creative masterpieces, and while Daydream Nation is fantastic, it just isn't as good as some of the earlier stuff
Pushon Bhattacharya You're mistaking great albums with influential ones, the ones you listed didn't have a massive influence on their respective sub-genres, certainly not to the extent of the ones listed in this video.
They can only play 4 chords? I think you're missing something about their music. If any band tried to imitate ACDC they would fail miserably. They take simple melodies and simple drumming and mash it with virtuoso guitar playing and two of the most iconic voices to create one of the most unique sounds since Queen.

Sorry, but as far as "most important albums in rock history" is concerned, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols should be somewhere on this list.
Yeah, that was my point to the guy that said the Pistols suck(s). Whether he thinks they suck or not it was an incredibly important album. The reason why, as a Clash fan, I would actually say that "Never Mind The Bullocks..." is more important than "London Calling." And I think that the eponymous Clash album, the one released in the U.K. not the U.S. version, is actually as important as LC, if not more so. And LC is my personal favorite album. Any further questions Zodiac?
what about the debut album of The Doors? one of the most important albums in the dawning of psychedelic rock and on top of that Light my fire was very important in television history for being a song that blew everyone's minds on the Ed Sullivan show... not to mention one of the few times someone really made Ed angry
For those of you saying the Beatles don't deserve the top spot, music wouldn't be close to the way it is now without them. They influenced so much in a short period of time and if you deny that then I'll just leave you here until the drugs wear off...
Chloe Craig There's a difference between the best and the most important/influential. In my opinion, Sgt. Pepper does deserve to be on the list as it was the most influential, although I think that Revolver and The White Album are better albums.
@William Magee Pet sounds is important tho, it influences sgt pepper (which the album was inspired by rubber soul), and it invented the ''no filler album''.
@William Magee That's a fair point, but pop and rock were very closely related back then, and even though the genres diverged later, Pet Sounds influenced both.
I'd add Kraftwerk's Trans Europe Express - Electronic/synth rock and maybe T-Rex Electronic Warrior or Bowie's Hunky Dory for Glam Rock. I'd also include Mothers Of Invention's Freak Out! or Pink Floyds Piper at the Gates of Dawn for experimental rock.

A Night at the Opera - Queen

I can agree on the fact that none of Queen's albums would stand as a cornerstone in rock music as instead do all their hit-singles, but many of their albums have a deep and accomplished meaning as a whole.
None of those
+Zodiac581 Queen one was on The pop list. also listen to a night at The opera IF you haven't 12 songs 12 different genres (Almost)
Almost 20 years later and OK Computer still sends chills down my spine. What a great fucking album.
Mia Moore this is a list about influential albums, not spine chilling ones
God, I tried to love that album but every time I listen to it I'm bored to tears. Another massively over-rated albums imo.
@@mhibbing1 overated and boring music
Best album ever
@@mhibbing1I mean it’s not gonna strike a chord with you unless you can identify with it. Music is subjective and ain’t for everyone but Ok Computer Is an amazing album. You need to go into it with a certain set of mind to appreciate it, it’s more complex than most albums.
Everyone else : Talking about Revolver and Sgt. Peppers
Me : Where is the White Album??
Revolver and White Album are the best Beatles albums
In the list there can only put 1 song from each band or artist
How about Abbey Road, that’s my favorite album of all time
If the White Album was reduced to one disc it would be revolutionary.
@@polbekham4335 because the list is not about the best albums, but about the most influential ones that changed the music the most. The White Album was expanding what the Sgt Pepper had started.

Back in Black and Brothers in Arms not even in honorable mentions?!?!
Sebastian rojas
Definitely back in black. Absolutely belongs in the top 10..
top 50 lol
Back in Black didn’t really change anything. It might’ve been a good album, but it doesn’t really change the way you look at rock, it’s just kind of straightforward rock
Brothers In Arms is not that good as you think it is. There are way better albums than this.
arid bitch it set the tone for other Hard Rock acts that showed up in the 80’s
The doors debut album should've made the list or at least LA Woman
I love both of those. And Morrison Hotel.
Strange Days is the best Doors album, all the songs are incredible
In the Court of the Crimson King deserves top 5 at least. It is truly a masterpiece.
No
@@fredi1505 yes
Just one great innovative song. The title begins with the letter 2.
@@davidwilliam2722 That's an extremely stupid thing to say. There are unarguably 4 and arguably 5 masterpieces on that album

What about In The Court Of The Crimson King?
Olga Maroszek Fripp would agree!
Absolutely. This is the album I hoped would have made the list (but knew it wouldn't).
Dobre pytanie
That album could turn you into an *evil* scientist.
i totally agree, one of the greatest progressive rock albums ever created.
Sgt. Peppers was good, and important, but The Beatles' "Revolver" even more so.
I agree completely with that one
Publius Velocitor agreed
I don't understand why Watchmojo gives no love to Revolver... isn't that basically the Beatles OK Computer?
Easily the most revolutionary album ever, all the sound, the genres, the instruments, it was something completely new
Itapi Coolest true but.....when I’m 64?
Do they even know Deep Purple? Not even a honorable mention for "In Rock"? This was the heaviest music you could listen to in 1970, even heavier than Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin.
ROAD To The Top But see this list is going by influence and not actually how good it is. Personally I hate The Clash and Nirvana but they were influential which was why they were mentioned. And honestly the album this guy is talking about probably deserves to be mentioned too considering it's apparently "Heavier than Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin" *going by his word lol*
ROAD....have you ever listened to Deep Purple in ROCK or Machine Head ? Or possibly the greatest live album ever...Made in Japan ? apparently not...please get informed.
Beenthere Donethat
"The Dark Side of the Moon was a commercial and critical success. It topped the Billboard Top LPs & Tapes chart for a week and remained in the chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988. With an estimated 45 million copies sold, it is Pink Floyd's most successful album and one of the best-selling worldwide."
But yeah, like you say, nobody liked it.
Deep Purple. Now there's an overrated band. Pre-Gillan was way more innovative.
@@davidwilliam2722 I don't think they're overrated, but I agree that Mk I is underrated, lots of great and innovative stuff from that era.
Raidiohead like velvet underground was influential to musicians ....but deserves on here for sure.
Pixies' Doolittle at least deserves an honorable mention. It broke alternative rock, without it there'd be no OK Computer or Nevermind.
Come on pilgrim and surfer rosa are more influential imho
dość wolny I enjoy both of those, but I think the definitive Pixies album is Doolittle. Thom Yorke has even said that Doolittle is the reason he's making music. I don't think people noticed the uniquity of the pixies until Doolittle. But I LOVE everything they made before recent times. Now they're shit.
I been going through Frank Black's solo old stuff... there's some gems in there like All Around the World
In my opinion Doolitle stands till today as the last time a band managed to make something new in rock music and when i say somethin new i dont mean by any means to belittle what has happened in rock since 1989 but lets face it nevermind ok computer kid a the strokes have been nothing but a group of respectable bands trying to revamp this genre .all those album mentioned felt like a standing on the shoulder of giants moments however when you listen to Doolittle it feels like some explorer making his way into an uncharted territory "terra incognita" just sayin
Without Pixies there would be no Nirvana
OK Computer is the only album I've ever heard that truly keeps improving indefinitely with each listen.
The Wall
Any Beatles album.
Amen brother
Most Pink Floyd tracks are quite grandiose, and then there are the moments of pure ambient noise, but they don't necessarily keep revealing subtle complexity. You can get your head around a Pink Floyd album in a dozen listens.
Hey hey, most liked comment here.
Their list:
10. Ok Computer - Radiohead
9. London Calling - The Clash
8. Nevermind - Nirvana

Master of Puppets - Metallica
Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
Appetite for Destruction - Guns 'n Roses
Exile on Main Street - Rolling Stones
Horses - Patti Smith
Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
1. Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles
If i'm remember master of Puppets by Metallica is a trash metal album
Black Sabbath is metal... not rock
I’ve been listening to 50s-60s music lately, and Bob Dylan’s Highway 61 album had lyrics that were 10 times more complex than anything people were doing at that time, just nuts
True and he influenced countless writers. I prefer Bringing it all Back Home.
Missed Ziggy Stardust for sure.

Actually, no David Bowie's album is important to music. No one. They're good, cute, awesome, but not so important.
But personally David is the most important phenomenon in XX century cunlury.
sex pistols were a boy band
Harri the sex pistols were essentially a political movement they changed the public viewpoint and opened up the eyes of so many to the alternative lifestyle showing you don’t have to be the same as society wants you to be, don’t think you can really try and put that in the same bracket as one direction
Harri No they weren’t, they were punk

Bowie was good, but also vastly overrated. He appeals to theatrical types.
+Simon Watts Bowie was pretty underrated until he died.
+Ben Lauter Bowie wasnt underrated, he just hadnt had any hits in a while, probably since "Blue Jean"
David Bowie the rise and fall of Ziggy stardust and the spiders from Mars should've been on the list
Agreed,Ziggy Stardust should have been on the list. But Deep Purples Machine Head should have been in there too.

it isn't the first ever rock opera though
The same thing can be said, King Crimson's In the court of the Crimson King was the first Prog metal album, and that one was A LOT more influential than Tommy
Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars!!!!
+Christian Malcher Hunky Dory as well but Ziggy was trail blazing
+Jesus Man Christ, it wasn't even the best album of the early 70's.

+Chris Richards Hunky Dory is my favourite Bowie album
The Beatles are at number 1 because they should be. Anyone else who says otherwise are out of touch with music period. I'm surprised the Rolling Stones didn't make it I'm there, but Nirvana at number 8 did surprise me. I felt they should have been closer to number one, but at least they made it I'm there. I'm happy with most of the picks.

Billy Disaster The rolling stones were incredibly influential, but none of their albums were way better than any other, or more influential
Hell, Sgt Pepper would not have existed without Pet Sounds, and that only made it to #6!
abcdefh1992 and pet sounds would not have existed without revolver and rubber soul...people often forget that!!

Imo Revolver was more influential. Sgt Peppers does only slightly more than Revolver, and revolver came first
Who's Next has to be in there.
What about Tommy?

I'd call The Beatles 'Revolver' the most important album in rock history. When rock and roll turned into Rock.

Nothing against Revolver though, I reckon it was The Beatles finest hour along with Abbey Road.
+metafis nah rubber soul is up there too though
+Henry Murray actually rubber soul and revolver are pretty much the same album.

I know, people get pissed when their favorite band isn't on the list. We get it, there are a ton of good albums, but only 10 can be put on this list.
That's what makes it the greatest form of art, there's so much to it and everyone can enjoy something different. I love that :D

Yeah but analyzing the influence an album has a is a much more objective and fair process
Pet Sounds even influenced Sgt.Pepper.
It's the other way around, honest!

Then why does Paul call pet sounds one of the influences for Sgt. Pepper?
Pet sounds released in 66. Sgt Pepper released in 67. Do the math nimrods.
Just to be clear, since you are obviously slow. My response was to people who said that Pet sounds was influenced by Sgt Pepper. That is impossible since it came out later. This is not about how Rubber soul influenced Pet Sounds. Comprende?
Ok computer is the dark side of the moon of our generation
Bronx Bomber1983 id say the Revolver of our generation...
I'd say Lateralus
@@jollygrapefruit786 naahh, lateralus fits more with King Crimson
@@daaavid6344 Very true
@@antonylinteau3408 Do you mean Revolver of The Beatles?
Hard to do it with only ten in the list. But this is not a bad effort. Predictable - but not bad.
Best point in the whole thread.
tdunster2011 i missed queen on this list...
Slevin I know! People think this list is subjective, but we are talking about the most influential albums, not the greatest! Dumbasses on these comments!
I can't believe Ziggy Stardust by David Bowie isn't on the list! WTF, WatchMojo!?
Not even an honorable mention for Hybrid Theory. Whether you liked that wave of music or not, it certainly was influential
Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
Wire - Pink Flag
Fugazi - Repeater
I'd say Confusion is Sex, Evol, and Sister are more important than Daydream Nation. Confusion is Sex is probably the greatest no-wave album, and Evol and Sister are creative masterpieces, and while Daydream Nation is fantastic, it just isn't as good as some of the earlier stuff
I doubt Nirvana's Nevermind would even exist without Unknown Pleasures. I doubt British indie rock would sound how it does without it also
Pushon Bhattacharya You're mistaking great albums with influential ones, the ones you listed didn't have a massive influence on their respective sub-genres, certainly not to the extent of the ones listed in this video.
AlexTheTvGuy you're funny
Pushon Bhattacharya Nope, nope, nope, nope ANDDDDD, nope.
how the hell is back in black not even an honorable mention?
Because it's derivative cock rock
About half that album is filler.
Because AC/DC is a bunch of talentless hacks who can only play four chords and shout the same thing over and over.
+Nothing Really sure...
They can only play 4 chords? I think you're missing something about their music. If any band tried to imitate ACDC they would fail miserably. They take simple melodies and simple drumming and mash it with virtuoso guitar playing and two of the most iconic voices to create one of the most unique sounds since Queen.
Pet Sounds way too low
Yeah, this list is not too bad overall, pretty good job for Watchmojo :
My list :
1. Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (Art Rock to a high level)
2. Pet Sounds (Pre-Sgt Peppers)
3. Highway 61 Revisisted (Important in lyricism and announced the classic rock revolution)
4. Are You Experienced? (Defined rock guitar playing)
5. In The Court of the Crimson King (Defined prog rock)
6. Black Sabbath (Influential on metal, but debatable overall)
7. Nevermind (Popularized grunge)
8. Raw Power (Punk defined)
9. Led Zeppelin I (Hard Rock blueprint, influential for musicians everywhere)
10. Tommy (the first rock opera, influential for bass and drum playing)
Yo where's Pink Floyd
Pretty generic list ngl, also yeah where is pink Floyd?
I mean it’s fine, it’s all good music
Pink Floyd and Radiohead deserve to be on that list. Their influence and the change they made to the music world is greater than most on that list
@@Nikola-if5jm In the court of the crimson king already has its spot for progressive rock, The piper at the gates of dawn could be mentoined for pyschedelic rock
What about "Disraeli gears", "In rock", "Who's next"?
"I never trust someone who doesn't like Bob Dylan" :)
I can't stand Bon Dylan.... but one of the most influential musicians of all time.
He is a genius, but you probably don't get the voice
Exactly.
I think he's awesome but a lot of people don't like his voice
I honestly love his voice. His phrasing is brilliant. It is a fascinating voice
#1 Sgt Pepper
#2 Highway 61 Revisited
#3 Revolver
#4 Dark Side of the Moon
#5 Rubber Soul
#6 Pet Sounds
#7 Abbey Road
#8 Led Zeppelin IV
#9 Are You Experienced?
#10 The White Album
The truth is the Beatles changed music with every album they released starting with Rubber Soul and leaving out Let It Be (good album but not groundbreaking like the others).
roycethepope Along with Let it Be, yellow submarine wasn't as good as the others, but it still had great songs like Hey Bulldog, All together now, Etc.
I’m not gonna lie... this is the WORST list I’ve ever seen. Not my personal favorites, but the only Beatles albums that should even be considered are Revolver and the white album. You’re totally rejecting the Velvet Underground, who were WAY more innovative and influential than the Beatles.
Fowlae ...........
thanX to beatles! we have modern pop music. .............rock and good music, would exist without them. the seeds, zombies, etc done it better
10. Iron Maiden (Iron Maiden)
9. Highway 61 Revisited (Bob Dylan)
8. London Calling (Clash)
7. Automatic for the People (REM)
6. Appetite for Destruction (G n´R)
5. Houses of the Holy (Led Zep)
4. The Queen is Dead (The Smiths)
3. Nevermind (Nirvana)
2. Led Zeppelin 4
1. Physical Graffiti (Led Zeppelin)
Sorry, but as far as "most important albums in rock history" is concerned, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols should be somewhere on this list.
No, It should be on the most overrated albums. The Sex Pistols sucks!
You suck
But it didn't influence anything? Isn't that sort of an important point?
Louden Kliehr Ever heard of punk rock? The fuck lmao
Nevermind the Bollocks Here's the Sex Pistols should be here. Pretty sure The Sex Pistols had a bigger influence than The Clash
talking about punk and not even mentioning sex pistols unbelievable
what about the debut album of The Doors?
one of the most important albums in the dawning of psychedelic rock and on top of that Light my fire was very important in television history for being a song that blew everyone's minds on the Ed Sullivan show... not to mention one of the few times someone really made Ed angry
That Led Zeppelin to Pink Floyd transition was too good
How can you not include Tommy by The Who
agreed!!
Polski Prince If there was gonna be a Who album, it'd have to be Who's Next.
Polski Prince Shit I didn't even noticed that ! What a shame...
toadfan64 Agreed
toadfan64 But Tommy was the first Rock Opera, Who's Next is just a standard album, but with a lot of hits on it.
For those of you saying the Beatles don't deserve the top spot, music wouldn't be close to the way it is now without them. They influenced so much in a short period of time and if you deny that then I'll just leave you here until the drugs wear off...
Though I do understand if you say Sgt. Pepper didn't deserve the top spot. I agree a different album should have been chosen.
***** Beatles are my life's purpose
***** Yes!
Chloe Craig There's a difference between the best and the most important/influential. In my opinion, Sgt. Pepper does deserve to be on the list as it was the most influential, although I think that Revolver and The White Album are better albums.
***** Haha the Beatles will always reign
Not even a mention for Who's Next?
RemusBiscuits Totally agree
Amen!
Any album by the who could be on this list
RemusBiscuits I agree, in my opinion the best rock album ever. Every song on it is just perfect.
"Ten Very Important Albums in Rock History" would be a more relevant title
Neverminds good but not in top 10 of all time
@William Magee Pet sounds is important tho, it influences sgt pepper (which the album was inspired by rubber soul), and it invented the ''no filler album''.
Electric, not Electronic (Warrior). :)
I knew nr 1 was going to be Sgt Pepper before I even clicked on the video. Well done Watchmojo!
The cure Disintegration, U2 the Joshua tree, Deep Purples Machine Head among others missing.
Deep purple yeah... the others not so much
I totally agree with the Cure , Disintegration was best and very influential album in alt , post punk , goth rock in that decade!
joshua tree for sure top 20
The Joshua Tree is criminally overrated.
LBboarding b how? It majorly influenced 2 decades of rock music, from every christian worship artist to kings of leon and coldplay
I'm three years old and hate my generations music, its all twinkle twinkle little star and other pop crap. I wish I was born in the 60's, everyone was free spirited, loving, and tense with the fear of nuclear annihilation.
I can tell you're 3 by your golf wang profile pic
***** He's four at least. Maybe even five.
Dude, Twinkle little star was made by Mozart who is known as one of the best composers ever. Do their taste isn't bad!
ANDOG45 dude when i was 3, twinkle twinkle little star was my jam lol XD
I mean the rock era has pretty much come and gone so you do have a point.
Joy Division-Unknown Pleasures. Sited extremely frequently by bands lead singers, Kurt Cobain (someone on this list) even said so.
Ok computer and kid a were era defining but what about the bends.
Irk? Can't leave that one high and dry
;)
Steve Achealo (nice dream)
Dark Side of the Moon has been on the Billboard 200 Album chart for over 18 years in total. It peaked at #1 in April 1973.
The Velvet Underground And Nico?
