  • With the Morphagene still en route back from Asheville, the Phonogene is again the star of the tape and microsound skiff. Recording time is inversely proportional to recording quality, so to grab a sample of this length is to take giant strides towards rendering it lo-lo-fi before any fx are added. Desmodus and Melotus Versio, followed by the Monsoon Clouds clone supply the finishing touches.
As I note in the captions, if I want to keep this particular snippet of sound- and as I’m not sure how to recreate it, I do- I’m going to have to wait for the Morphagene to arrive as it’s elder, more primitive, brother will retain a sample over multiple power cycles, but cannot write it to any sort of non-volatile memory. But that, and its many built-in limitations, are what makes it so much fun- it is more immediate, and somehow more hands-on, than the infinitely more powerful Morphagene. I wouldn’t be without either now- and wouldn’t say no to another Phonogene if anyone has one they could stand to lose…
Like and subscribe, good people, spread the word and wreck some sound today. Even an actual tape player could be pressed into service. Say no to hi-fi!
    Thanks for watching!

Very suspenseful if there is such a word. Love the reverb tail at the end. Well done Wal.

Yes, you can say suspenseful. Part of that might be the microtonal scale used (Sri Camel, one of my very favourite such scales).

tip: you can keep your coolest recording snippets on the PC and play them to the Phonogene with your... Phone :). It supports line level sources too.

Thanks for that. Tbh I’d be happy just to get it into Audioshare; I can send it anywhere from there.
