Glad you're masking! What you're describing re: the allergy feeling is called silicosis. It's serious business - all of us should be wearing the proper equipment and utilizing strong ventilation when knapping, to avoid lung damage.
I’ve read that many of the gun flint knappers in Brandon England experienced throat problems as a result of their constant exposure to flint dust….They often medicated themselves after work at the local pub for some pain relief!!
As I started grinding more I also started sort of coughing, like I had to spend a while clearing my throat each evening. I started wearing a mask and it stopped. I've heard that cough/clearing-of-throat in a lot of the older knappers, I know what it means.
Wear is the best place to buy coral like you use? I am Eastern NC so I generally have to drive a few hours to find stone but I don’t have anything that good looking local.
