We'd have more options for solving nearly every move if we expanded our useful range. This goes for short and tall climbers in particular - chances are, you're not actually as good at getting scrunchy or getting extended as you think you are. The drill that can help, One Size Fits All, might be the most undervalued skill drill in all of climbing.

This is interesting. I was watching the climbing comp this weekend and Honald was talking about how flexibility can make a taller climber fit into small boxes. My flexibility is terrible and I’m 5.8!so getting into small boxes don’t always work for me. I’m so happy to see more videos from you(Kris) I hope you’re still enjoying the wooden holds (Coqui holds) I love seeing my holds in your incredible homewall!
I honestly think flexibility is only a very small piece of the puzzle here. I'm not remotely as flexible as many of the shorter climbers I regularly climb with but I often choose higher feet than them. It's more about practicing the positions and getting comfortable in them, rather than just saying "oh well, I'm not flexible enough!"
And yes, love the holds!
Well done with this, and the last few videos. I've been following your stuff for a little while now and I love that you always seem to find a new way of looking at and expanding concepts that I thought I fully understood. Only to realize that I still have a lot to learn. Thanks for all the great content. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Kurt. It’s sometimes a curse that I’m not willing to just repeat the same things and that I constantly interrogate my own thoughts and ideas. I just have to pull the trigger fast on making things! 😂
Thanks for this! As a 6.5 climber I've always struggled with the story of being too tall. I do enjoy the challenge of small "boxes" and will add this drill to work on shrinking that range, but I'll also make sure to work to extend the useful range in the other direction!
Definitely use that height to its utmost! If you can add in the ability to climb shorter as well it’s like having a superpower.
super cool video. testing the ranges of my box is not really something i’ve ever considered before but makes perfect sense. cant wait to try it on the spray wall!
The best place to do it, no question!
Yesssss this is what I’ve needed!!!
Glad we made it then!
I can't believe you flushed me coach.
Somebody had to do it.
