Yamaha should be paying you for promoting this. Much better than every review I've seen
Absolutely. This is easily the best video I've seen yet for the dx.
totally.
MAN, just WOW. Even Yamaha could't show better how versatile this keyboard is
Not used to synth demos being performed by such God tier players, holy cow
@Benjamin Thaddeus thanks Thaddeus, your words are as wise as the first day we met
Wow man you are an amazing programmer (and player)
PH.D brass and TALK BOX are simply amazing. FM has never sounded more warm or expressive. Than in this man's hands.
I'm trying to get into FM synthesis, and I'm taking piano lessons. This is a good example of the potential that comes with knowledge of sound design and piano proficiency coming together.
I wanted a small keyboard to do Rhodes and organ sounds, and I was having a hard time deciding between the reface CP and YC, but after finding your video and the fact that you offer these patches I can get all the sounds I want out of the DX. Thank you. Your synth programming skills are amazing.
Fantastico
The only two people that thumbs this down were the only people salty enough to realize they didn't have a Reface DX - because the patches were TOO DAMN GOOD!!
Gorgeous, love the beautiful and musical saturation on this little beast !
Just want to let you know that these are AWESOME! Fantastic work!
Damn man!!!! Those organ sounds are juicy. Please keep it up.
Dude your patches are insane and your playing is so good wow…. Thank you just thank you 🙏
Hi Tom , hello from Paris and thanks for creating and sharing all these beautiful DX sounds !!!!
holy shit I was torn between the CP and the DX, but now I'm absolutely gonna buy this one!
holy shite, your comment made my decision
from perfect old school recreations to new school hip sounds you've programmed it all!! incredible sounds!
Thx for your sounds, especially the Rhodes / Wurlitzer sounds are excellent! Finally managed to load your presets from soundmondo onto my reface dx, so happy! Thx a lot ❤
I found your patches on Soundmondo before finding this. I have you to thank for the DX100 Monobass patch I been trying to get my hands on in DEXED for years 😭
THANK YOU SO MUCCCCHHH!!!
Wow. These are great! The best I've heard. Thank you!
Nice work!
Nice patches & examples that finally convinced me to get mine
All these sounds are so much grander than what you'd expect from a small FM synth like it. Gosh I need to see if I can do this stuff on my Electone HS-6...
It's completely insane how you've managed to get such accurate sounds out of FM synthesis. You've turned the Reface DX into an absolute funk machine. A tutorial, or even just any tiny insight into how you even begin to create sounds like this would be amazing if you feel like doing one. Thanks so much for making these available, and for making my CP redundant.
Thanks for your message, I am thinking how to make a video like this since all the time more people ask for that. The problem is that most people don´t even know how any synth work. So I am still not sure how to do that..
@@TomAnsinkVideos Awesome, anything would be cool, even just an over-the-shoulder view while you program and maybe describe what you're doing would be super helpful.
There are quite a few good primers/tutorials already on synthesis in general and FM synthesis you could direct people to if you wanted to just do an intermediate/advanced tutorial that doesn't cover the basics. Red Means Recording has a video on sound design that covers the basics of synthesis, and Ben Jordan has one on FM synth that's pretty in depth. Floyd Steinberg has one that explains FM synthesis with a Reface DX.
You could link them in description or mention them in the video for people to check out first, then just focus on the advanced aspects of FM that you use.
Thanks again!
@@boswell255 yeah I did think about that , linking other videos that explain it better than i will. I will check those videos you mentioned. Still not sure about it how to do it but thanks anyway!
@@TomAnsinkVideos Dude please, I’m dying over here. You made me comment on UA-cam with this. I never comment on UA-cam. I don’t have a DX I have a volca fm and I want to learn from you. I already know how to do FM. Just this level of sound design is something I’d like to understand.

Great sounds. Also finally someone who plays a really musical progression on these reface synths !
Was on the fence about which Reface to get, if any. Your videos singlehandedly tipped the scales. Great work, thank you!! Will definitely by downloading your patches -- love every single one. Yamaha should hire you... best demo I've seen.
Fantastic playing and programming! Thank you so much for sharing these presets!
getting my DX soon in the mail and i'm super psyched to try these sounds, dios mio they sound delicious
These are gorgeous thank you very much. I'm waiting for my dx in the mail and this is helping ease my worry that I would miss the electric sounds and should have spent another $100 on the cp first. The first two alone are more than enough to quench my thirst for those keys.
This just convinced me to get mine. Awesome patches
I've been eyeing the reface CP and YC for a while now and didn't pay much mind to the DX...I think I was expecting like 10 different patches to play the Doogie houser MD theme song....I had no idea how versatile this synth was, may have to check it out...especially because its 100 bucks less than the CP and YC. Awesome playing too BTW. thanks!
Yamaha should pay you for doing this great videos!!!
Excellent!
Such good playing! Great patches too. I'll be downloading some of them real soon.
Amazing, terrific.!! I need those fabulous sounds.
Damn man, great playing and sounds! Gonna enjoy these
Amazing swag to your patches and skills
THANKS MAN ! wonderful playing & patches
Love your playing and sound design! 😍👌
Those sounds are really great. I also would like a little tutorial on how to create such sounds. Would be great! 🔥🔥🔥
Guau, maybe the most versatile Reface keyboard ( I Love 5th FM !)
Such a great stuff man! And really nice playing! Thanks!
These sounds are great. Thank you.
Sold... I was going for a very portable keyboard, and considering the reface CP, but this video sold me the DX...
Beautiful sounds! Out of all the demoes I've heard, your EP patches sound the most-fleshed out, especially given the range of diff EP sounds you make. I have a feeling some of these will make permanent homes on mine.
Also, your playing is amazing. That separated bass lines under/over the chords drew some intense emotions. How do you practice? Do you have any resources for somebody who's played instruments, but are just getting into keys?
Friggin' awesome sounds!!
Great Sounds!
True talent right here!
You are a gift from god, We love Stevie
Your patches sound so cool! Cheers friend, thanks for sharing
Veo que eres de España, flipas tío!
Beautiful playing Tom.
Thanks John!
Man those sounds are crafted perfectly, well done some of the best ive heard, didnt realise FM was that flexible, and here am i making searing Hoodesque bleepcore 😔
Nice playing and programming
I get it. He bent his keyboard. That's why it sounds so good.
A plus for originality!!
so good!
So great! Thanks a lot!
pretty good sound colours !
Yamaha should pay you man!
Amazing!
Horn section is incredible...
Great sounds thanks
WOnderful patches! thanks
Wow this is good stuff
I‘m getting one of these just to use your sounds. Amazing job, thank you!
Your welcome ,I really should start talking to yamaha..
Same, just bought one because of how good the patches are
Same here, bought yesterday and already patched the sounds to my reface. Excellent job ; thx a lot!
fantastic !!!
Love the Green onion patch. Sounds like the song.
Nice work
3:29 is where it’s at!!!
Wow, you and I seem to have almost identical tastes. These are very similar to the patches I made for mine. I even made one that is a combo of an electric piano + organ like your 2020p ad. I think my patch I was most pleased with was my Yamaha CP70 baby grand sound.
awesome
just wow
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
warm horns was epic.
All epic.Rock Box blew me away. This guy is funky. And he has mastered the programming on the DX. I've just ordered one. Gonna see what I can pull out of it in 2023.
This is great I love your patch selection and playing also I was wondering if this was recorded mono or stereo?
Is there a classic piano pad for the dx7 ?
i have a reface CS but damn i really wanna buy one of these
Incredible, much appreciated. I would love to know how you learned to freestyle like that. Did you learn a bunch of music theory or how do yoou know what is what.
Very nice sound, thank you for sharing man. Still wondering whether we can make a similiar sound to an acoustic piano. Have you tried to make one?
woooowwwwww
This video might finally make me sell my CS lol
Can you program essentially the exact same sounds that the CP can make?
I don't have a reface DX, but I think it would be fun to try to reproduce the Wurlitzer sound on the DX7 or Dexed with some effects. The effects on here sound like the same effects that I have on my Reface CP.
Soundmondo is saying that my Reface Dx is connected but the Sync button does not work. any help would be appreciated
I need all these presets 👏🏼
Oh my got!!!
These sounds are GREAT !! Did you upload them to the Yamaha website?
wow mans is ripping 😳
Who needs the YC if you can have this?
I have a Reface CP, but mainly play NeoRhodes. Thank you :-)
Can you compare your CP sounds with this patched NeoRhodes? Is it still worth to get CP? There are some good offers on DX and a far far less offers on CP... So for budget it's better to go for DX but CP sounds..... BTW I have Delay (Grand Canyon) and Reverb (BlueSky) pedals so not really bond to CP's built in effects
@@vladimirvoevodich623 The CP is probably better for a genuine Rhodes sound. However, there is something about the touch sensitivity of CP that I don't like. If I play normally, the sound is much too soft. It tends to either mumble or shout.
@@zamoth73 Thank you, I got DX :)
Will you show how you got them? Through edit and the isolators and alga rhythm
That is good idea, some people asked me how to program sounds. Its a bit hard to explain specially not knowing if someone already understand a bit how a synth works or not.
This shows right here…. Yeah, the presets on a synth are fine in a lot of cases but, if you know what you’re doing or at least noodle around…. You could make a great sound a $1000 synth would have for a preset with a synth at a fraction of the cost. It also helps that he can play his ass off on the keys. 👍
Quality sounds here mate. Quite like the look of these, do you reckons it's more of a 'keys' synth? I'm after something for lush pads but wasn't sure if this fits the bill.
It certainly has the polyphony for it
Can you download these onto your reface dx and take them around without being plugged in? I’m looking at getting one of these pianos as opposed to the CP
You need power from the wall or batteries. The sounds stay in after saving them.
I'd also like to download a midi file with what you play - very god player - compliments :-)
Very cool! Driving me crazy to identify some of the songs, like at 2:17, any help? Thanks!
Thanks mate, it´s Chameleon ,Herbie hancock
Extremely accurate fingers to be able play flawlessly on those tiny keys..
absolutely amazing, i've watched this video just for the playing over 15 times... And i've also got a bunch of your patches on my dx. Thank you SO MUCH
Does anyone know what song he's playing while using the DX EPiano patch?
Thanks Joáo! I apreciate your comment.
@@TomAnsinkVideos sorry to be that guy, but are u just improvising while using the dx epiano or is that a song?
@@jmvgj99 ah no, just some impro for the demo, there are some songs but the dxpiano is nothing sorry
I see this and I'm like, can I just download your skill and knowledge, cuz honestly, no patch in the world is gonna make my music decent unless i..how you say?..learn??...how to?...PLAY??????!?!?!??!?
That 2o2opad playing touched my soul.
Anyone who knows what he is playing and why it is called 2o2oPad?
Congrats on the fantastic playing and patches. How do you find the feel/responsiveness of the keys on this keyboard? I'm getting one soon
Hi from France, the keys are very good, small but really good , far away from nord lead a1
😊
How do you learn to play like this? Whenever I look up soul and funk songs there's barely any midi for this stuff and your playing is great. Are there any youtube tutorials you would recommend? I literally don't know anyone who plays soul and funk around me.
Christian Fuchs has some good tutorials on YT. Jazz, soul, blues, etc.
Transcribing is in my opinion the best way to learn that stuff
wow excellent!! I just bought a DX7iiid for a very reasonable price but I´m beginning to wonder whether I need it AS well as my reface... The DXii sounds huge, but also IS huge, heavy and requires plug-in power, fiddling with sysex... honest question: is the DX7iiD rendered almost obsolete by this little beastie?
On paper, the DX7II is better because it has more operators and some additional features, but in reality, it's a matter of preference, this keyboard is also much smaller, more portable and is easier to use/program, so personally, I'd prefer the reface DX. Also, if you want more keys you can simply plug in a MIDI keyboard through the provided MIDI cable.
Maybe use this little guy when gigging or transporting...larger analog / digital vintage synths shouldn’t be banged around etc bcuz they’re a huge bill to fix
