    Solar Surge will teach you all about being energy independent and how to set up your home to run off-the-grid during an emergency. We empower families to take control of their energy generation and storage so that they will never be left in the dark without electricity.
    In this video, Joe introduces the new EP Cube whole home battery system from Canadian Solar. This is a full AC- and DC-coupled whole home ESS designed to compete head-to-head with SolarEdge and Generac PWR Cell.

    One minor point of clarity. Both 100A auxiliary contacts are bidirectional, only one is also tied to a control circuit capable of starting or stopping a generator. So you could run a generator through one contact and AC PV through the other. Both contacts have CTs and report power consumption or generation through the handheld application. Great video with clear explanation of the system!

    Self consumption mode sounds great. I've not heard that explained before so thank you kindly for touching upon it. Not sure how I came across this video but wanted to comment and say thanks. We are looking to expand our current system that came with the house to include storage so will now go back through your earlier content to learn more about this mode. We are not interested in selling back but rather generating what we use. So much to read and learn. Thank you again. You did great.

    With so many new products, I would think the prices will drop to appliance level (less than $4k) for these batteries. I guess we'll just have to wait some more.

      3+more years for that low a price imo. I'll be curious when the gen 3 powerwall drops here soon with lfp in a more compact package with some interesting stuff build wise. Allegedly it's going to use some new welding techniques ala SpaceX who also uses tesla batteries&motors on the rockets. Anyway I bet that battery could be only 6-7k.

    When Sunpower entered the Solar market, more than 10 years ago, they offered a high performance (for the time) 225 watt(?) panel. The systems had a matching string inverter. Those systems are now coming close to the end of the warrantee on the inverter. Could the EP Cube use an existing array of these panels coupled directly (DC coupled) into the unit, replacing the existing Sunpower inverter? Supposedly the Sunpower panels are "positively grounded", different from others? I realize the existing Sunpower inverter could be AC coupled into the EP Cube.

    Hi Joe! Another great video. Are there any systems, besides Enphase, that don't shut down solar use when the grid is down? For the systems that do shut down solar, at what threshold do they start recharging batteries? Seems like you have to oversize your storage to make sure you can make it through the night, but I'm having trouble finding this information.

      Whether AC couple or DC couple, EPCube can continue to generate solar power in the event of a power outage, EPCube will automatically stop generating electricity when the battery is full, and when the battery is discharged, EPCube will automatically resume charging.

    Thanks, will be looking at battery systems for my existing solar. But some info on a proposal in California as SCE is proposing a home income rate fee. Depending on what the home total annual income is will dictate the fee. We'll see if the CPUC will approve... Looks like we (solar & battery owners) have become victims of our own success.

    I like the DC to DC approach, however I am strongly against high voltage DC battery packs as it means most of the cells are in series. If you stick to the tried and tested 48v systems (Pylontech as one example but there are many), you have the ability to stack the pack which results in a scalable battery solution WITH easy to swap out racks. If one cell fails in a high voltage pack, the entire pack is off line. With server style packs, you simply remove the faulty pack and reconnect the others with a slightly smaller bank. You still have a working energy solution. I have 10kw of Canadian Solar 595w panels and they put out massive current (18.4 amps). You need less panels and I would love to see a Canadian Solar 48v battery that is scalable. Take my money!

    • @SolarSurge

      I think the goal here is speed of installation and a sleek looking product.

    • @CrazedCrittic
      @CrazedCrittic Рік тому

      @Solar Surge I'd rather have a slower installation with better serviceability and no downtime personally and I don't care what it looks like.

    • @Andy-2021
      @Andy-2021 Рік тому

      Connecting multiple 48V low-voltage battery packs in parallel can improve the reliability of the battery part, but the battery and the inverter are still connected in series; A good battery system is not a shortcoming of the whole system. The main goal of battery series connection is to bring higher conversion efficiency, which means less heat generation and higher reliability. The design that can be referred to is that almost all EVs are series battery designs. Under the premise of excellent design and manufacturing, series battery systems will have greater benefits.

    • @Andy-2021
      @Andy-2021 Рік тому

      In addition, two sets of EPCube can be connected in parallel with the same SmartGateway, so that the battery and inverter are connected in parallel, which really improves system reliability, and is very suitable for your 10kw photovoltaic system.:)
