- When I was one of the army of little boys who spent every spare moment of their lives hanging around Darlington's Bank Top Station in the 1950s, the A4s (or Streaks as they were universally known) were the engines we all wanted to see - the crack express locos of the East Coast.
We haven't seen Sir Nigel at Carlisle for a long time - in her last visit she appeared in wartime black. Just look at her now!
I was up till midnight editing yesterday's video and am just too tired to fight the crowds at the Citadel today - so this is a shorter video than usual - no bad thing, I can hear you all saying!
Since the entire train was whisked off to Upperby in smart order, there wasn't much opportunity to film 60007 anyway.
Enjoy!
Thank you Tim, that's a magnificent locomotive in my favourite mainline station!
Tim
Magnificent indeed - especially for those of us old enough to remember it in everyday service in the 1950s.
thank you tim for such a brilliant video regards kevin 😊
Glad you enjoyed it Kevin - makes the crowds and the weather worthwhile! Best wishes.
Good capture Tim, don't think I have ever seen Sir Nigel in steam, the last time I can recall seeing her was at the great gathering at York Museum back in 2013. Many thanks again for your continuing efforts much appreciate you burning the midnight oil to edit the videos.
Having grown up in Darlington, I remember her in regular service - though never looking as well-groomed as she is today. In the case of this video, it was quite literally "burning the midnight oil" - editing into the wee small hours. Best wishes John.
We saw it go past our holiday cottage in Crosby Garrett. Great video!
Obviously a good place for viewing steam locos! Best wishes.
Nice catches Tim.Great to see SNG at the Citadel, looking splendid in blue. I got the return at Warrington BQ.
60007 a fine sight at Carlisle Citadel Tim, great to have an A4 back on the mainline, even better sight in the hills up north, cheers Steve .
I'm sure she looked wonderful up in the high fells - although, having experienced the wind on the Citadel I don't envy you the experience of filming up in those high parts. Best wishes.
Great filming Tim on a better day. Good to see her in blue.👍👍
Agreed David - agreed!
Superb scenes from Carlisle Tim and great to see Sir Nigel Gresley back at Carlisle. Best wishes, Jeff.
Thanks Jeff - great indeed!
Great video Tim. Im away a week and I miss 60007! Oh wait, i saw 60008 on Wednesday! Better weather than the weekend.
Thanks Les - hope all's going well for you in your foreign trek.
What a lovely sight and it looks a brighter day than where I am. Today she is heading to the NYMR 50th Gala sure to be a star attraction there. I never saw them in full flight but can remember them at Kings Cross.
Ah - I had the advantage of growing up in Darlington and seeing her and her classmates in everyday service - especially the non-stop trains like the Elizabethan which ran at speed through the yard avoiding the station.
@@schoolshorts That must of been a fine sight For the first time today I got a taste of that seeing her speeding through Thirsk although only with her support coach.
Another great video Tim - good to see the locomotive back in the blue colour scheme!
It does show her rather better than the wartime black! Best wishes.
