The main guy catches the eye of “Sister Imperator” and he becomes Papa Nihil, the “original” lead singer of Ghost while his friend is sacrificed.

I dig the way you do these reactions. I definitely think pulling in all the various versions is the best way to absorb a song, instead of just listening once to one way and leaving that as your single "reaction." As if people listen to a song once and know how they feel about it.

One of my favourite songs, despite it being one of Ghost's fluffier tunes. Never fails to make me smile and get my foot tapping, so even with its simple straightforwardness, it's pretty awesome.

edit: to explain the mask to you. my poor english can't find the right words but I'll try. you know how in movies burglars or thieves wear that black balaclavas on their heads? well the papa masks are like that, it's a big balaclava with holes for eyes, mouth and ears ☺️

the album this comes from (prequelle) is based around the theme of plague
this song specifically was written about a couple who catch the plague and, knowing it's over, decide to just dance the night away
although the idea of death talking to the singer is an interesting one - that was the idea behind Witch Image, another Prequelle song

I got the chance to attend the Ghost concert circa their tour “A pale tour named death” and the Prequelle album in Ames Iowa. Greatest live show I’ve ever seen.

Prequelle is based around the theme of the Black Plague. Dance Macabre was the dance the infested danced all night, partying all night long like there was no tomorrow just because for them there was not going to be a tomorrow. They were doomed and was going to die.
The video is about Sister Imperator and Papa Nihil meeting for the first time. Tobias is not in the video. It's an actor. There is so much more about Ghost than just the songs. There is a whole universe for you to discover in the different Chapter videos. We're right now on chapter 14. You will find these on Ghost UA-cam channel.
The Brut version is fun but no one really cares.
Ghost live band is: Tobias Forge who sings through a silicone mask Thats why you can't see his lips moving. . In this video he plays the role of Cardinal Copia. Cardinal Copia is the son of Sister Imperator and Papa Nihil. And brother of Papa Emeritus I, II and IiII. He has now been promoted to Papa Emeritus lV on the current Impera Tour. The rest of the band is: Per Ericsson, Chris Catalyst, Justin Taylor, Cosmo Sylvan, Hayden Scott, Mad Gallica, Laura Scarborough and Sophie Amelkin. Sophie is not in this video. She was new for the current Impera Tour. None of them play on the records and has no part of writing the songs. Ghost is Tobias Forge and he does have help writing and recording the albums. But only help. The ideas and the songs has been thought out in advance by Tobias and he only uses the help from others to not be repetive and write the same song over and over. He also gets help with some instruments like drums and piano. But he actually can play them to even though his main instrument is guitar. On Prequelle he plays all guitars. Even the solos.
Great post, but I thought Papa IV is Papa Nihil? But you're saying is Card. Copia? 🤔 I believe this video is 'Seester' and Papa Nihil (Papa IV). Maybe I'm wrong, I've only discovered this band 3 months ago lol.
I haven't seen any comments explaining it, but the lady is sister imperator, AKA seester. The man is Papa Nihil, the father of papa i,ii,iii, and iv (even though he doesn't know!). The ghost chapters really explain the lore with papa nihil, seester, cardinal copia, and the other papas really well.

Great reaction, sir, and I enjoyed the deep dive and exploration of different performances of the song. I personally am not a fan of the remix, but it's all good. When you started pumping your hands in the air during the last video, I was like, "Yes! Exactly how it feels at a Ritual" (what we affectionately call the live concerts because of their song Ritual). It's definitely a catchy tune, fun to hear live, but I feel it's kind of middle of the road for Ghost's discography. Can't wait to see the next! 🤘

To answer your question. When I first heard this song (driving) I DID notice the 'bewitch' part. I wasnt totally sure, but knowing the band, I assumed it was 'bewitch'. Checked the lyrics on the album when I got home and yep! Lol

First time I heard this was through my brother (I knew the band and songs but SOMEHOW I missed out on some during the time I worked at this VERY toxic place; toxic coworkers and bosses who abused residents, I was an Aide for three buildings). He reintroduced the band to me with this song, because he knew I liked the classical song by the same name. Before he got to explain the lyrics I told him to his face "Bewitch you instead of Be with you is a clever twist and makes me think of the classical song". He was a bit bummed out I caught it but said "I forgot you pay CLOSE attention to lyrics". (I was a DJ too for weddings and it was literally my job to know lyrics so I could play "safe songs" around children if asked by clients to do so.)
My personal favorites from their newer songs have to be Twenties (This honestly brought up nostalgia of Repo! The Opera), Hunter's Moon (Loved it but the lyrics hit hard for me in a different way. The song isn't supposed to be literal, as is common to the band, but... I was in a serious wreck as a child and was seriously traumatized by some people a child is supposed to trust, that's all I'll say on that, but the lyrics of the chorus in the song hit because of how my brain works since then and how old memories haunt me and disappear... You will understand after the song and I will detail then what I got out of the chorus), and Darkness At The Heart Of My Love (Again, me taking some lyrics literal and it hitting hard and making me sob like a baby; again their lyrics are never literal and I grasp what they were going for but everyone can get multiple sides out of the song: The intended meaning and your personal interpretation).

Love the vibes and love that treasure planet poster in the back. I like that you’re doing different types of videos for the songs, Ghost in my opinion is better live (I’ve never seen them live though, just off YT videos) than they are on the albums. The settings of the concerts are awesome.

Very well analyzed on the video :). Big hug from Sweden. Long time follower. Btw Live they got a cool routine with the different guitar players. Because they have masks they have their own style of playing and different showoff. So they use a skill battle rivalry between them :). It is said that different known rockstars has unoffically played in Ghost Live.

The title is inspired old movie horror Italiano 1964 Danza Macabra
Tobias wears full silicone masks with a hole on each side for his ears to come through. Silicone masks are very realistic and allow much more movement than the latex masks you find at a Halloween store. I believe Immortal Masks custom makes all of his masks.

The most irritating mistake in the lyric video is (here at 3:33) the two background vocal lines. They should be "Cataclysm" and "Armageddon" instead. This way, the sinister and dark subtext of this seemingly upbeat/love song is revealed.

Fun fact the only parts of Tobias' face we see is around his eyes (where its painted black) and his ears its a 100% custom made silicone mask
