True, AC was not available with the solid lifter LT1,,,

Z-28s did not offer AC in 1967 - 72 due to the high revving engines!

I love the part that he talks about the engine. Nobody cared about the air conditioning in 71.

Was that ac added later? Because ac wasn't available on a second gen Z till 73

    A 1971 Z28 with a standard "Chevrolet" steering wheel?

  • @dougeroo1

I owned one of these back in the day and the LT1 engine did not come with a/c. I doubt very much if this still has the street mechanical cam (probably the 350 hp hydraulic Corvette cam, that’s what I would use), if it is an LT1 at all. And yes, the turndowns on the exhaust are wrong. All Camaros came with straight out stainless round pipes, either one or two depending on engine. I ran 2 1/2 inch pipes from the collectors thru Corvair turbo mufflers dumped at the axle; hot rodder’s choice.

Most likely doesn't still have the forged 11:1 pistons either.

As far as I knew no a/c with LT1 cars because the solid lifters had to be adjusted periodically. Removing the compressor every time, and GM probably didn't want to pay a tech for the extra time.??? Just what I read...

Red flag. No AC available on Z28 till 1973. So what are those vents doing on the front of the dash?

If the car was built in LA.... The Z28 WILL NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING. None. Verify that there are no traces of A/C (ducting, kick panels, big hole in the firewall for evaporator). Presence of Air Conditioning will disqualify the car immediately.

      a Second Generation Z28:
Like always the best way to truly identify a Z28 is by the engine. On Norwood, OH assembled 1970 and 1971 Camaros check the Trim Tag. Unfortunately for Van Nuys assembled Camaros the engine is it. Engine changed to 350 cubic inches. In '80 and '81 the Z28 was available in a 305 or a 350 version. An automatic was available for the first time in a Z28 starting in 1970. A/C wasn't available until '73 though so that can be something to look for on 1970 and 1971 Camaros where you are unsure. No Z28's were produced in '75 and '76. Starting in '72 the engine was coded in the VIN

They never put a/c in a 1971 Camaro Z28, something is shady about this car.

Maybe they added it with all the correct parts when they restored it? Cowl tag does call out Z28, who knows? Problem is once you find something not quite right you really start looking.. LOL

I had one of these in 1973. The only difference was the rear spoiler was the short version. (my preference. wonder why) I sold it not too long after I bought it and have hated my sorry ass for that moronic move ever since! :(

+Thor Norquay on 70 camaros you could get the option of having a 69 copo camaro style rear spoiler i think

I think mine was a frankenstein build or weird factory order. It had the full front bumper and the smaller spoiler.
I think that's the "copo" style spoiler you're referring to. It's not a term I've ever heard before. They are one sweet ride in any configuration. Mine was a 71. The 70 and 1/2 was a screamer even more so than the 71.
