••• ABOUT THIS VIDEO •••
For quite a while now I have been planning this 1 month trip to Svalbard, and now finally the time has come. I spent the first week together with my dad, and we had a wonderful time.
Now I am off to a remote fiord to hopefully find some wildlife to photograph. If I'm not lucky with the wildlife the landscapes are incredible beautiful, and it has been a while since I have done any landscape photography.
The biggest challenge is the fact that there are a lot of polar bears in the area and it takes some preparation to stay safe.
Happy watching and stay tuned for Part 3.
••• WHO I AM •••
My name is Morten Hilmer and I am a professional nature and wildlife photographer.
I am a Nikon Ambassador and I work as an ILCP photographer.
Nature conservation is very close to my heart.
I have served in the Danish military special unit, the Sirius Patrol, for two years and that has given me the skills and confidence to operate alone in the arctic regions. I have spent two further years in the northern parts of Greenland meeting the local people and working on photography projects. My driving force is a sense of adventure and my fascination for nature, and my curiosity and empathy for other cultures has led me to many remote regions.
Read more about my time in the Sirius Dogsled Patrol: www.bbc.com/earth/story/201602...
Beside being featured in publications and in my books books my photographs have been awarded in the Wildlife photographer of the year and European Wildlife photographer of the year photo competitions.

I hope people really appreciate what Morten does in these videos. Not only does he do incredible photography, but he is also like a 2 man film crew. It is so well done, and watching is a true pleasure. As someone who makes videos as well, I can't imagine the amount of work that goes into a video like this. Such an inspiration!
Hi Seth and thanks a lot for your compliment. I'm so glad you like the way I make my videos🙏
I would add his respect for nature and wildlife, making sure animals are not disturbed by his presence.
Those landscapes are something else. Great work, Morten👍
Thanks a lot Thomas. I think you would have loved that location😊
Collab already!!! Give the people what they want 😆👊🏾

8 minutes in and Morten has already gotten the Seal of Approval for the trip
Hi Favious:) I didn't think you had the time to watch this one - It must be very quiet on the live stream;)
Thank you Morten for respecting and appreciating nature.
Svalbard is a very fragile island. Even if this landscape looks so rocky and mighty, it also shows us how sensitive and fragile it is.
Morten is real. No phony click bait; no ersatz equipment reviews. The experience is the real deal, and hopefully get a few shots, too.
No one makes me wanna pack my back and go out more than you, Morten.
Thankyou!
That is an amazing compliment Arne:)
Desperately waiting your Z9 review video. We all know you had been to SVALBARD with Z9 😉.
Maybe...;)
Thank you for sharing this Morten. This is why I love UA-cam. So many stories comes to light. Actually got a tear in my eye because of the beautiful untoutched landscape.

Aahhhh, your video's are so relaxing ! Keep up the great work ❤️
Also nice to see that with all the people doing there tech reviews never actually using the cameras in the real word, Morten is out here getting it done with Z.

Hi Morten thank you for taking us with you. What a beautiful place to be. Such a great privilege for us to experience it .All the best .
You just drink water from the stream, Morten? But the fox parasite! Do not forget the three great dangers on Svalbard: Avalanches, Polar Bears,... AND THE FOX PARASITE! Every UNI Svalbard Security Course ever :D I love watching your trips there, it awakens good memories :)
Hi Gunnar and thanks for you kind words. Yes I know about that parasite but this area should be safe. I hope;) Your videos are very nice too - I hope more people will discover your channel very soon!!
@@MortenHilmer thank you 😃 everyone that likes Badgers and Muskox is welcome 🙂
Glad I’m not the only one with an over-active imagination at night. I love backpacking but I often sleep terribly.
That's adventure right there..! love your work Morten.
Absolutely gorgeous landscapes!
A rockstar in his element! You truly inspire us to keep going! Thanks for that
Once again a beautiful video, already looking forward to the next one, the preview looked exciting! Such amazing scenery and that seal photo is definitely one for the 2023 calendar 😛 Even though you found it hard to describe, you described exactly how I feel about visiting/seeing old buildings. Looks like your bear alarm got a small upgrade from the last time you visited Svalbard. I would still 100% run into it though 😅
Hi Pica - Always a pleasure to read you comments. Yes old buildings are amazing. Have you seen A Life on this Planet with David Attenborough? The beginning where he is visiting Chernobyl? That is amazing. Yes the alarm got an update and this is much better. I am now building one up from scratch for my next trip. A completely different system with sound only. See you out there...
@@MortenHilmer I haven't watched it yet, but will definitely seek it out now. Thanks for the tip! 👍
Beautiful video, Morten! Every time I watch one of your videos, I feel rejuvenated and ready to get back out on the next adventure. Thanks for all the hard work and dedication, can't wait for the next video!
You are the best!
Your photos and videos bring so much peace.
Thank you, Morten!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this Morten
landscapes are also beautiful to photograph.👍
The rough estetic condition of your lense it's such a strong ode to photography. Safe journeys ahead Morten and thank you for your dedication!
I continue to follow you from Iraq, greetings to you.💙❤💚💜💛
Unbearably beautiful landscape. Thank you Morten.
So soothing, I even felt the damp and the fog…beautifully filmed and commented.
You are blessed Morten 🙏🏼
I canˋt wait to see the next episode. Magnificent!!
Nice video, Morten. You put a smile of recognition on my face when you used the buttons to zoom in on what you shot. It took me a while with the Z system until it sank in that the display compares to my smartphone. Two finger pinch zoom. One finger move within the frame. Brief tap to focus on the point tapped and immediately take a shot. Almost a game changer.
Yeah it is nice with the touch. Just use the buttons most of the time to avoid sand and mud from my fingers😂
You are my biggest inspiration Morten! Thank you
What stunning landscape!!!
Breath of fresh Air Morten. 🙂
Woooow, what a beautiful place! I can't wait to hopefully get there one day, too ^^
Thank you for bringing "us" with you.
You are the man!
Success, health, peace and light, in your life!
Namaste!
I enjoyed immensely. Know there are documentaries on TV that have massive budgets, multiple staff working on them and your expedition documentaries made by just yourself exceed them all, they bring the real wild outdoors into our homes. The excitement you convey, atmosphere of the surroundings and story telling is second to non. Well done.
Incredible landscape photography!
Can’t wait for the 2nd part, what a landscape
Greetings from Scotland
So talented man! Morten hilmer love your work and also love you as a humen being🫡
More quality content from Morten, superb!
Awesome - before setting up the bear alarm or brewing coffee, Morten makes a patio for his tent. :-)
Finally you've uploaded the 2nd episode. I was waiting for it.. Thank you so much.❤️
Appreciate you so much Morten. . so thrilling sharing your outhere
Never bored with any video ..Every video is intresting
Again a really exciting adventure which we can enjoy thru your videos as we are not able to be there by ourselves, we enjoy it and have the advantage not to have to worry about any polar bear visit at night.
A truly magical landscape beautiful photos thank you Morten
Yessss, a new video up! Perfect for this Sunday afternoon. Thank you for sharing your amazing trip Morten! Can't wait for the next episode🙃
Beautiful Morten... thank you for sharing the wonderful experience.
The seal photos are really surreal. Has an ethereal feeling to it. Amazing video, Morten.
Just Wow!! A phenomenal documentary of your latest arctic adventure.
The very first thing I did when I received the notification, was to make myself a cup of coffee!! As always you're photos and video are great and inspirational. Thank you Morten!
I think I will actually make a cup myself;) Thanks for you kind words and for your support through your membership.
@@MortenHilmer You're most welcome Morten.
When seals are in the water they are difficult to get good pictures. Like you said, they don't keep their head out of the water very long and they can spend up to about 20 minutes under water. They are quite common in Puget Sound in Washington State in the USA. I see seals about 60% of the time usually about 30 meters off shore. I am surprised how many people don't notice them.
I enjoy watching how you set up camp. I was surprised to see you drink from a stream. Around here I am going to filter at least and probably boil.
That is a cute little old shelter you showed us. As always, I enjoy watching your videos.
Hi Jeff and thanks for you kind words.
The streams on Svalbard all comes from the glaciers so the water is super clean. Here in Denmark you have to be more carefull because of farming etc.
Yeah these seals are really difficult - luckily they are very curious:)
Take care - see you out there...
Amazing and most beautiful landscapes all in all! What an exiting place to stay! Warm thank to you for sharing your wonderful outings and adventures with us here on YT! Wishing you health and protection during these perilous times we live in! Blessings!
Thank you, Morten! Incredible experience, your videos are like I sit with you there and sometimes I feels that wind on my sofa. Just brilliant!
I can't wait to hear your review of the zoom lens and the new camera body. It's damn sure a lot less weight to haul around.
Fantastic pictures and i am curious about the next episode! Thanks for taking us with you.
Love this type of photography adventures have a good one Morten .
Well, dammit that was a fast 28 minutes. Just gorgeous! Very envious of you.
