A great question to ask right before the close of any interview is "Is there anything that would make you hesitant to hire me?" This gives you an opportunity to immediately address any concerns they might have to strengthen your chances of getting hired.

My favorite question at the end of the interview was "Yes, if you were starting your career over today, what advice would you give yourself?". This question also helped me judge if I wanted to actually continue in the hiring process.

Greg! It's good to see you again. I absolutely rocked the Panel Interview, scored a 96. Lost the job due to an item on my background from back when I was a juvenile. Damn the world we live in where something that happened before you were 13 could potentially make you a liability to your department in a use of force or OIS case. I was grateful for what I was able to do, and grateful for your videos.

What did you do when you were 13 that was so bad? Did you lie about it or not disclose it? Did you not mention it or something and they found out? Seems weird. Explain

@@Horror_Guns_Girls_Gym No, it was fully explained before in the packet for background investigations and during the interview I filled in more details. The problem is, if you have sealed records from a juvenile case, that *can* be requested should you have a use of force incident/OIS, and that can look bad for a department, even if the offense was unrelated to the legal proceedings and petty in nature. Remember- sealed doesn't mean inaccessible, and be completely transparent during the background. If it's found out *AFTER* the fact then you guarantee you will be out on your ass and possibly decertified. I've found another department that doesn't incorporate legal issues while a juvenile and doesn't ask, or want disclosure if you were under 18 at the time. I'm going to try my luck here. Good luck to you, hope this helps.

In a corporate setting I always used, “what are the attributes of your best employee?” Not sure if this question would be good to ask

Hello sir! I have kind of a two part question. What are your thoughts about job history? I’m concerned that I’ve worked too many jobs over the years and it shows I can’t stay at any one job for a while. I was never fired or let go. I’ve just taken a wide array of different jobs. I’ve also worked at in a corrections setting but didn’t get past the training program because I wasn’t ready, and wasn’t mature enough. How do I explain this to an interview board?
    Thank you so much!

Jumping ship or being relocated or positioned in a different place by an agency is definitely a red flag in my case I worked for the sheriffs office during that time my sheriff was embezzling money from the county only a few of us knew that eventually I stepped out of the job as sheriff deputy and people always ask me why I did that which appears to be that I am a quitter my response was that I take on the goals of my employer and I am willing to go through the hardships that my employer goes to provided they are doing what is necessary to uphold the Law and represent the community I refuse to let the stigmatism attached to a sheriff to alter my career choice and halt my advancements in my case my Sheriff made it very evident that I was going nowhere with that department and honestly that was because I was viewed as a threat

If I make it past this background investigation I will go to the merit board interview for a sheriff department. Can I elaborate at the end just to say thank you and why I believe I am the best fit?

One that I had been curious about is when going through the police academy would I be staying on campus or at my home in the city?

I have an investigator interviewing me soon. I have a judgement on a car accident that happened in 2019 and now I have to pay a x amount for the accident. Will that prevent me from getting into The job as a police officer? Also my driving record is not good due to drivers license suspended due to over 10yrs I could not pay car insurance. Not because of under the influence or anything els. Just not having insurance and got arrested lots of time.. Also , my credit I did bankruptcy. With all this being said, will this disqualify from entering the academy? No felony or crime..on my record. Just traffic, bankruptcy, ad the judgement.. hope to hear from you.

After looking into the department background I would say something like this. “After researching this department, I came across information that states that 98% of the department is male white, 1% of the department are female and 1% is African American. My question is after reviewing this, what is the department doing to broaden it’s diversity within the department?” Some departments get stuck on this question and others are actually happy I ask this question and ask me if I have any ideas to help with this issue as well.

Diversity? Are you wanting the department to hire officers based on their ethnicity or gender and not solely on the applicant’s qualifications?

Since the interviewer (at least one of them) will be from City’s HR, and diversity is HR problem, it makes sense not to tell during the interview that HR is doing a bad job in creating diverse police department.
However, underlining that there is room for improvement - is ok
