"Way better than so many acts I had to deal with in my whole life"... Yep, that pretty sums up Band-Maid perfectly. I'd just replace "many" with "all" 🙂
This version of Onset is special. Totally insane chops from all four of them. Good move to also show another one where Saiki is present! BTW - do not forget you promised an original by Nemophila :) Philip will have lots of fun!
@@philproffitt8363 It's even better when you are at a show and your right at the stage in front of Kanami. I was lucky enough to be there that night for both Onset and From Now On. It's something I'll never forget, seeing the rapture and joy on Mincho's face the entire time. She is truly a beast on her guitar, and that fact that she's also the composer makes it all the sweeter. It's fun to watch the transformation the minute she steps on the stage. It's epic.
Yeah! So many excellent Japanese metal bands! To paraphrase Arlo Guthrie: _"You know if one band, just one band does it; they may think they're really sick and they'll ignore them. And if two bands, two bands do it in harmony; they may think they're both weird and they won't listen to either of them. And if three bands do it, three, can you imagine three bands walking in, melting your face and walking out; they may think it's an organization. And can you, can you imagine 50 Japanese bands, I said 50 Japanese female metal bands, walking in, meltin' your face off, and walking out? And friends, they may think it's a movement. And that's what it is!"_
Thanks for selecting my favorite song "Onset". But Band-Maid served as a support act when Guns N' Roses performed in Japan in November 2022, but it's a shame that he didn't know about Band-Maid.
@@phillipjkriz Thank you so much. They have over 120 songs, most of them good, so please check them out. And their live performances are even better.🤘Cheers😄
Calm down you guys. Joel is a big boy and can do what he wants with his channel. Not only does he know the people he is interviewing but these are long form interviews, edited and shown out of order. There may be a reason based on the conversation or their personal history he picks a specific song. Also, we are getting a second song coming up soon, that I'm sure some of you will have ass rash about, so grab some herbal tea, some ointment and enjoy the show.
Band-Maid always brings an ONSET of love, appreciation and happiness to their viewers. Why? Because they're so damn good -- good-natured, good-hearted, good-looking, and beyond good as writers, players and performers. Wow, right?! I'm glad you're going to do another B-M song with Saiki. Thx, Joel & Phillip!
Totally agree good choice and great instrumental. The complainers should note that the ladies have chosen an instrmental to introduce their act at festivals - From Now On. Also presumably the protesters didn't listen to Joel as he says at the end he is going to do another one for Phillip with the singer as she is a great singer
Thanks again, Joel. By the power invested in me by, uh, no one, I *officially* dub thee the _Unofficial_ Ambassador to the Japanese rock and metal scene. Congrats!
Band Maid is first class ROCK🤘🤘 If you are a rock and metal fan for handmade music you have to go to Japan. Or live on the hope that the Japanese bands (especially the all-female bands) will become so successful in Europe and America that it will be profitable for them to go there more often on live tours. Otherwise, the only alternative for western rock fans is to go to concerts by ageing grandpas for 150-300 euros and dollars per show. And then ultimately to their funerals over the next 10 years. Amen to that.🤘
If you watched the entire video you'd know he picked Onset for a reason and then showed him a song with Saiki singing after. But no, you had to be an overzealous jackass
I think an instrumental is a good choice to introduce someone from overseas to Band-Maid. Many people have initial knee-jerk reaction to anyone singing in a different language, but end up enjoying the vocals after a while anyway 😊
Some people are put off by Japanese lyrics. Maybe an instrumental is a good way to introduce someone to BAND-MAID, because it eliminates the distraction of, "I don't understand what they are saying!" As long as you follow up withh a song by the whole band.
As a non native english speaker i like to hear singing in every language, as long as it's sounds good to me. And japanese sounds a little bit familiar to me. The use of consonants and vowels and the overall rhythm are very nice and somewhat like english, or romance languages.
I know some do, but its as natural to me as listening to English, Spanish, French or Italian songs. Take the HU Band for instance, the first time I heard their throat singing I was enthralled. It's like I'm actually feeling the music, not just listening. I've even learned some of the lyrics to Wagakki Band songs just by listening while driving in the car, and when I listened to Band Maid's Gion-Cho, I immediately knew that it was a different dialect than say Tokyo, because Miku wrote the lyrics in the Kyoto dialect. I'm not claiming to be a polymath, but i can recognize different dialects for some strange reason. I can differentiate between Cantonese, Fuzhou, Shanghainese and some of the others. But I've never been able to pick up the language to speak it.
He must have not been at the location or working for GNR last year when BM opened for them. Also, for those of you being pissy about the song choice, settle down. His channel to do what he wants and anytime someone introduces a person to a band just appreciate that the network gets bigger one by one. Good grief.
