so wrong .... the sound is at best a nice to have, mostly, it just makes driving worse! the point is safe driving at the limits... as an engineer, it is likely that electrics can perform better, at a much higher cost, than ICE. The reason is lower center of gravity with motors, not engines, at each wheel. This is inherently a better driver platform. That said, the cost would be double the ICE at current technology levels.... If sound was the important factor, you could just play a soundtrack keyed to the RPM.
@annenominous7220 then I congratulate you because you're a garbage engineer. No one cares for lower CG when you're 400 kg heavier. Your inertia is massively increased, significantly more load for suspension, brakes and tires. You can't do a track day or a full stint by simply adding fuel and continuing on - you will have to manage the battery condition, which is way longer and cannot be repeated on a constant basis in short intervals. Where is EV racing at right now? - single-charge races with focus on saving power instead of going faster, because they are so inefficient and cannot charge up fast. People don't want to drive simulators, theory and spreadsheets, they want a feeling. If your limited mindset was true, then why are EV sales so bad? Who would ever buy a "performance" EV as a 2nd or 3rd car? What for? Current EVs are worthless throw-away products and horrible depreciation confirms that. No one wants a used EV because everyone knows it's going to be in a garbage bin in a couple years, or because the technology keeps improving. You're flying in a la-la-land, "engineer"...
I'm an officer of our PCA region here in TN. Our membership is not interested in the EV Boxster, Cayman or Macan. We all question push and understand that Porsche is being pushed by the EU regulations. A very large majority of our members, will simply not buy a new Porsche if the only option is an EV.
Not interested in Electric. It’s a shame as the ethos of Porsche doesn’t align with all electric. I understand the need for cleaner emissions standards, but I bought NA Flat 6 cars for the sound and enjoyment that brings and not for any hybrid or electric technology. It’s about visceral driving experience the Porsche brand brings to its customers.
Have you driven a Macan GTS? I have taken my vehicle to the track. It is astonishing what it will do when on track with 911’s and Caymens , etc. An SUV, yes but still a Porsche. Also I owned a 911 C4s. Thanks for your response.
They should offer electric conversions for older models to keep them on the road. That would help the environment. When my 2013 Boster finally milkshakes I would totally consider a battery conversion for 30 to 40k instead of purchasing new. One design could cover generations of boxters and caymans. The factory option for the conversion would be revolutionary. Porsche could offer a cool environmental campaign of people saving cars from the junkyards.
No, EV kills fun of any car. The environmental impact is overblown by green weirdos that love to extract money from the non-critical thinkers. Replacing an engine with minerals that require electricity is a net negative - and preposterous (not to mention blasphemy for a Porsche). Go get yourself a goofy Tesla RC car.
@@MrSchn3ll That is scientifically wrong. Do your research before posting that. EVs and batteries are not perfect for the environment but over their lifetime they emit less greenhouse gases than combustion engines. That usually is the case after 5 to 20 thousand kilometers, depending how eco friendly the energy was produced. Since all first-world countries see a sharp increase in green energy supply, the eco-friendliness of EVs will further increase in the coming years. The fundamental reason behind that is the energy conversion factor, it is way higher for EVa than for combustion engine cars. A petrol engine uses about 10% of the energy it burns while an electric motor is at 80%. The physics behind it are undenyable. Also, EVs and batteries offer way more innovation potential than the combustion engine. Scientists find ways to make them use less minerals every year.
It's mind boggling that the whole world is powered by coal and some peoples highest concern are gasoline cars when EVs have short range, they take hours to charge and chargers aren't on every street . Not mentioning that they are heavier, which means higher tire and brakes wear which is not considered by anyone. Not to mention that these restrictions are resulting in huge German crisis which was the biggest economy in EU. Congratulations EU
I don't think there's anything wrong with EV. I do think that long term this is the way things will likely play out. However I just simply don't want one. I find it even hard to justify is the massive depreciation and the price premium of luxury EV. They are all essentially skateboard battery designs that are shared across brands from low to high end marques. I Love the taycan. Even considered it over my panamera sport turismo. But somehow it depreciates harder than my panamera does, which is saying something. Why should I pay 170k for the taycan I wanted when the Etron is 90% of the same car for 60-70% of the price. I get why OEM want to do this. The part sharing/cost savings is massive. But for niche buyers, because that's what enthusiasts are, we just aren't interested enough. I won't mind a performance EV one day. I'm just not being offered a compelling product and reason to switch.
EV Cayman and Boxster are dead on arrival. The stupidity of the EU knows no bounds.
the Carrera T should have came with the 4L NA motor from the Cay/Box 4L GTS
Who on earth would EVER want an electric Cayman? The sound is the whole point if it! I'll keep my 981 until it breaks in half!

I own a 2023 Macan GTS which is a great vehicle. I will never purchase an EV Macan!
The guy in an SUV - the un-Porsche-est car in the lineup - doesnt wanna buy an EV. Thats hilarious.
Please see my response.

Don't really want a full electric car. Hybrid on the other hand.. NON PLUG IN.. Best of both worlds.

its freegin HUGE
Back to reality thank god, long live the combustion engine
They finally got the Cayman/Boxster right and then decided to electrocute it? Made no sense to me.

That idea is kinda romantic but sadly absurd.

No interest, id rather walk
