As everyone else already stated, you will NEED VIDA to do pretty much anything on these.
Your 4C isn’t working, if you’re not noticing a difference between modes, it’s night and day, and is what makes these cars an “R” imo. Love my 4C, just needs maintaining every now and then.
Heat will fry and deteriorate a lot in these cars. New Intercooler and an aluminum radiator does wonders. I’de suggest wrapping the engine wiring harness in something heat retardant.
PCV system and timing belt should be done if it already hasn’t at that mileage. As well as all general maintenance.
Enjoy, when everything is working, they’re one of the most versatile cars ever produced.

K R thank you 🙏 timing belt was done at 119,000 as well as PCV! One of the reasons why I got this R. Secondly I ordered some BC racing coilovers for the car already and realized that my 4Cs were completely shot and had cracks in the springs and bushings on LCAs. I’m doing a complete front suspension refresh along with subframe bushings and maybe some sway bars if I get around too it! I have noticed how hot the engine gets after I drive the car decently hard. Intercooler snd radiator are both on the list! Thanks K R we hope you stick around for the build!

@@NamelessCo I wasn't noticing a big difference between modes on my 2004 V70R. 2 new front shocks later (£450 plus work costs) and it's night and day as K R said.

Your 4C struts are likely toast if you’re not feeling a noticeable difference between comfort and advanced modes... advanced is bone jarring and basically unusable on most public roads when the 4C struts are working properly. Also, once you replace them you will find you’ll *always* use sport mode.

    • @NamelessCo

B_Dub thank you! The anti skid mod needs a service so the chassis settings are temporarily off, but when I get it fixed I’ll see if I notice a difference. I was planning on going for some BCs or something else.

i wanted a 4C chassis on my XC70 that i got new, first prob be only new car ill buy in my life...but was talked down from it cuz expensive to keep going and sales guy was right. i still half regret not getting it ..would still love to be able to click a button and make it go all soft and comfortable for the ride home and then click advanced to stiffen it up and tighten it down for the backroads..
i think my next volvo whenever that will be will be 4C chassis option and part of my budget will be to also have it replaced cuz without doubt it will be worn out, i mean i had my eyes on a V70R with it, guy was selling it as is for $1000 cuz it was sitting for a few years unsure of actual condition and included with the house he bought so kinda some mystery around it and didn't wanna put the money into it but apparently its all legal.. in fact he said if i can remove it myself he'll take less if he doesn't have to get involved...but sad to say, its too far gone for me... def been siting prob 10 years and inside and out needs alot of attention. i mean maybe if he accepted $500 it would been a dif story btu he said no to $500.

meehhhe Of You that’s a crazy story! I would definitely recommend getting a V70R if you get chance again! It’s been an amazing daily since I got it a couple weeks ago! I’ve already put over 1,000 miles on mine and drove it half way across the country.

Nameless Co nice! Ya I love Volvo wagons they last forever and are amazingly practical, more so in my opinion than crossovers or modern SUVs. . I have almost 300,000 miles on my XC70 and no signs of issues :D
but I always loved the way V70R’s Looked. some boxy cars are sexy and V70R and 850R wagons are pretty sexy in my opinion.

fmic is never a bad idea with these, volvo's TwInter-cooler design is not that great in my opinion, if you live somewhere hot too fmic can reduce a lot of that heat soak I'm sure you know.
still need to do that on mine but I'm in Washington state which is not to bad for heat, but as soon as I can you know whats gonna happen. #keepthatshitcool
