Good morning! Are there any breeds specifically that you would not use an E-Collar or "Static" collar with? My veterinarian was very insistent that I was not supposed to use one when training my American Pit Bull Terrier specifically because he is a pit. Thank you in advance!
pmpsklz hello!! I have trained just about every breed under the sun with ecollars. Veterinarians are very quick to give “training advice” on what you should or should not do with your dog, particularly when it pertains to the use of training tools, because there is very strong movements in the vet world on them being “bad” or “abusive”. I’ve found this primarily due to the massive industry that is medication for behavioral issues that they are a part of. The fact is that 1. All animals (humans included) learn using the same foundational theories. Positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, positive punishment, and negative punishment. To scrap any one of those is doing a disservice to your dog by removing communication necessary to help them understand you. And 2. The only thing that effects how dogs learn is the temperament of the dog. NOT the breed. Hope this helps!

Is tapping the same as holding down the stim?
As long as it is steady taping that stops when the dog does what you want it is still technically “negative reinforcement”

What if you start tapping and they? They really don’t know what you’re doing and they just freak out and try to run away from you and not come to you.
That’s why the dog has a long line on to give directional help.

@@watchmoivies123 yes, that’s how negative reinforcement works. You’re teaching them exactly how to turn off stimulation.
