Now you need a very large studio to host this behemoth. What a wonderful console it is to look at. I am quite sure she sounds amazing.
I am dreaming of an installation in my medium sized studio :) Stay tuned. All the best, Tobi
Ahh, love these things. I actually learned on this console, and put in quite a lot of hours on it. It sounds fantastic, is incredibly well built and the faders keep your fingers nice and warm in the winter ;)
Oh so cool! Did you learn on this exact console at Wave Academy in Berlin? All the best, Tobi
Great work!!! Congratulations!!!
Thank you :) All the best, Tobi
Congrats!!!
Idk how that works but it was quite interesting. I definetly need to watch the other parts
Nice work!!!!!
All I can think of is the amount of electricity and it takes to run that board. My mixing board uses Amir 120 W and that's a very significant amount that adds up to quite a few dollars a month in electric bills.
Hi! I measure 1800 watts right now. So yes this could be noticeable on the electric bill. Is your board rated at 120W or do you measure it in-use? How many hours a werk do you use it? should be like 2.5 cents an hour to run your board. Hope that helps! All the best, Tobi
@@tobitweaks Holy smokes... 1800W is a lot of juice, but sounds about right for the board. I measured 120W on my MX9000 48ch mixing desk just continuous. I used to leave it on full time, but $700+ electric bills changed my habits. Now that I'm on off grid solar, I watch my usage carefully, so I turn on the board when I'm actually using it now and turn it off the rest of the time.
The King has spoken 🙏
Ahahaha, das letzte wirkliche Abenteuer eines Mannes: Altes Lawo Board wieder fit machen. Geil.
wow ...nice video ... thanks for sharing ... crazy to see a server on a console ... thanks
This is one of the first „Audio over IP“ systems ever made! All the best, Tobi
Looks great. Really enjoying these videos - your enthusiasm for what you do is lovely to watch. What are you thinking of doing with this when you're done?
Oh thank you so much! Well I am loving this more and more, but the big question is when will I be done? I have so many cool Ideas on how to modernize and use this system…All the best, Tobi
ffufufuufffff I feel your hype brother, how lucky! I want to hear a mix
Thank you! Yes I want to mix on this so bad. Stay tuned, we still have a way to go until I am able to do it! All the best, Tobi
Wooo! The new Tobi Tweaks video has dropped!
Woooooooo! That board is looking fierce!
🥳👏🙌🙏
This makes me happy to be in the box. 🤣
Happy to see how this projects makes people happy in all kinds of ways :) Thanks for watching and all the best, Tobi
nice old Broadcasting-Desk! Congrats on the repairs! where do you have it from?
Thank you so much! I got this broken and in parts off a Berlin media school :) All the best, Tobi
Good lord!
Talking about anologue mixers. I have a 12 channel, 4 sub mixer.
Using the busses (SUB), can I port the sound signal directly to an outboard interface via the connections on the board. 4 chanels of input
Using the 2 aux sends in post fader mode, can I send 2 more channels to an outboard interface.
Using the channel strip master section, can I send a left and right, 2 more channels to an outboard interface.
The manufacturer won't help and nobody ever seems to answer.
Hi! We are technically with a digital mixer in this very episode but: I have a Series on an analog mixer aswell here on my channel! And to answer your questions: Yes looks good to me :) I did a similar thing woth a mackie board way back where I used the Bus 3+4 to record selected channels with my audio interface that had only two inputs. Hope that helps! All the best, Tobi
Must have been a nightmare shlepping that thing down into the basement….
I would try and ask IBM for some help with the DSP/Mainframe unit? usually they are good with that kinda stuff and will just give you schematics and maybe could point where you could get some working modules or if they have any lying around?
Oh that is a great idea! Thanks and all the best, Tobi
How much power (watts) does this behemoth consume?
Good video.
Thank you! I measure 1800 watts right now. Hope that helps! All the best, Tobi
What are the IBM cards? Are they DAC? Did it come with the board?
Hi! They are DSP Cards, Network Cards and Madi I/O that connect to external ADC and DAC. Hope that helps! All the best, Tobi
Cool, das alte aus der Wave?
Yes!!
Hey Tobi, i watched a couple of your videos, i was wondering what is in your opinion the best mixer you've had so far for mixing? Summing?, best bang for the buck? Thanks
Hi! I was really liking the Allen Heath for what it costs like used! Great open desk, sounds really good. So far the ADT was the most complete mixing system (that will probably change once this Lawo is finished) and the SSL SiX is incredible for summing but I built a Summing Box for a friend out of a Siemens V275 and that thing sounds incredible! Hole that helps. All the best, Tobi
@@tobitweaks Allen heath really? I have been looking for a bunch of old consoles to go hybrid in my studio (using a UAD converter), Amek, Crest audio, Soundcraft etc.. , i was about to get a Midas Venise 32, but your review against the SSL didn't really convince me on the console so i'm a bit lost, Allen Health doesn't get alot of good appraisal on gearspace that's why i wasn't so sure, what's best about it ? Eq? Preamps?
The A&H just sounds very open, and you get it cheap! If it‘s supposed to be better I would consider boutique desks, that have better parts in them like transformers on the inputs, or I would consider desks with more features like a fully parametric equalizer. The Amek look like they have nice features but I never tried one! Hope that helps. All the best, Tobi
Is this the controller for a nuclear power plant!?!? Kidding but holy smokes that thing is a MONSTeR
Nice cutting board😂😂😂
You should reduce the channels, then You will have lot of extra parts, and less electric bill…
Hi! I have thought about shortening it and while the frame is somehow modular there are a few important pieces that I would need to cut or re fabricate that are important to the desks stability (this thing weights 300 kg upwards…) Also I like it being that massive! And I have a few spares, too! Hope that helps! All the best, Tobi
What Lawo desk is this exactly?
Hi! This is a Lawo MC2 82. Hope that helps :) All the best, Tobi
@@tobitweaks It looks so well laid out. If compared to the new Harrison I think your console would win.
@@FransvandenBergeMuziekschuur This would be comparable to a Harrison MPC4/5, maybe? The harrison is probably even a bit better from my personal experience. And have all the automation stuff etc. But we are talking the very uppermost tier of consoles in both cases. Build quality and sound.
If you are talking the retro Harrison analog console, that’s just a hobbyist toy in comparison. The Harrison 32 was never a super high end product compared to what they did later with Series 10/12/MPC and then the digital versions of the same. The Lawo compares to the latter.
Hi! You can automate almost every parameter of this board. I know Rainbow Studio in Oslo uses a MPC4 - and is a big inspiration in maybe using a digital board for recording and mixing in my own studio some day ;) Hope that helps. All the best, Tobi
@@tobitweaks I use a digidesign control24. With 16 inputs enough for my needs. And since I know the Decca Tree even if I would record a Orchestra... That would be enough for me.
Is this a musical instrument?
Hi! This is a mixing board - it does not produce tones itself but amplifies and mixes them together for a recording or live broadcast. Some people do call this an instrument, other stay with the term „audio equipment“. Hope that helps! All the best, Tobi
@@tobitweaks thank you @tobitweaks
no, this is to record musical instruments, singers
@@anticomunistadoms oh
So it's a mixer?
Give this console to UAD to model.
I know they modeled a digital console by Neve already, and the cool thing is - this console runs on the same sharc DSPs as the UAD-2 accelerator system! And maybe they can help me to expand the compressor timings? 🧐 All the best, Tobi
Maybe turn the input down a bit? 😂
Oh I played a full scale mix file and the desk gives red lights at various levels - on the meterbridge starting from 0dBVU (depending on calibration this could be -15dBFS) so no gear was harmed in the process! Hope that helps :) All the best, Tobi
WHAT A NIGHTMARE
Okay why? Thanks and all the best, Tobi
Can u give me a mpc 2000xl
No I don‘t have one, sorry!
Console for sale
where? All the best, Tobi
Cool free gift but I think it’s waaay too much work, headaches and electricity for what you’re getting. It looks like it’s made for broadcasting purposes and not music, production or tracking purposes so what it be like having a giant electricity hungry input box with volume control?…. And that’s only if you were recording bands. If you’re not recording bands, that makes it even less useful yes?
No shade my friend I’m just trying to figure out what you’re going to use it for.
Hi! Thank you for your comment! So much to be answered here…The work with it is actually big fun for me! So no headaches here :) Power consumption is alright, I measure it and I am with a good 1.8 kilowatts - meaning about 50 cents per hour where I live. Yes it was made for broadcast, this one for the radio to be exact! They have been used in recording and mixing environments aswell as not only do they feature very high quality preamps but also full dynamics and EQ so this is a complete mixing setup! (without FX meaning reverb delay etc like your standard SSL for example). So you can use this for recording and mixing! I wish to show a few examples of using it very soon. Hope that helps! All the best, Tobi
@doodoogtube . You are clueless, my friend. This is several levels up the ladder from the usual music consoles. SSL has nothing nearly as good. This would work amazingly in a music production environment and sound a m a z i n g.
@@tobitweaksit looks super cool and fun. Be interesting to see what you get out of it. My tumble dryer uses 1.8KW at its highest heat setting! Your board has powah!! 😀
