The Crush 12 is my favorite Orange Crush. I've owned em all over the years and went backwards ironically. 35RT > 20RT > 12 with some other amps in-between. The Crush 12 had such a great clean tone that to me is better than Fender or Vox. The Crush 12 is my home amp and I love it without pedals for Blues and Punk or with pedals for Surf and Rockabilly. Keep on Rocking Dave you're the best mate 🍻
Watched so many reviews on Amps and was just so undecided. I like so many different styles of music tits just so hard. Then this 5 year old video turns up. SOLD. I hope Orange give you commission on how many of these you must of sold for them. Now I need a guitar.
music tits are hard though! - hope you found yourself on the fretboard... anything I can do to help or encourage you on your way, don't hesitate. Just don't ask me to overlook your hilarious Freudian slip spelling errors! Stay healthy out there
I own the super crush 100 and a Marshall 212 but I just picked this amp up to have a small travel sized amp for when I go meet up with my band mate to write and don’t want to lug a full gig rig just for writing. It works perfectly. Thanks Dave.
Needed a little practice amp to take on vacation (or holiday for the Brits) so I picked one of these up. It's a perfect little practice amp! Was going to sell it when I got back since I have a Orange CR120 head with two 4x12 Orange cabs, a Marshall 8100 with two Marshall 4x12's and an Orange Rt35 already but I think I'll keep it!
Hi Dave, You're Great Britain's best export :) The Orange 12 was my first amp. Played with it last night and struggling with its settings. But making good music and sound is earned. Thanks for showing me and thousands the way to get great sound on the Orange 12. I will try your settings tonite. Thanks from Chicago, IL USA.
Thanks for the review Dave! I just bought this amp today and I don't know that I would have without your review. It's a absolutely fantastic amp, especially for the price. I can't recommend this amp enough ! Orange amplifiers are fantastic! So are you Dave!
Thanks Dave. I don't comment a lot, but am a player of 30 years, & I adore your no BS channel. You often inspire me to press on. Anyway thanks for this; I'm a Fender amp man through & through. But now I've got me lil' studio up & running I want to get a few backline flavours for recording (& writing). I wasn't sure this amp would be up to snuff, but you persuaded me otherwise. Stay healthy out there man, gutted about ol' Tom Moore eh? Bless ya
If only your buddy's name was Terry, coz...you know what we'd call that wonderful LP (which am sure I've seen that exact one in books before> Tony Bacon?) "Terry's All-Gold"
Can’t wait to get it been waiting to get any orange amp for a while. Dad gave me a Guitar Center gift card this Christmas an I seen this for $104 I was like sold lol . Going to double end Alligator clip the speaker to my 10ohm 12inch custom cab Neighbor is going to be pissed lol.
I've been trying to choose a new amp just for playing in the house (my gigging days are far behind me). You've convinced me to get the crush 12, thanks!
I grabbed one of these just for fun for $45 and I actually prefer this one to its slightly bigger brother, the 20RT. Clean is just as good and the gain doesn't get as fizzy as the 20RT does, as long as you don't dime it. Ironic because you'd think it's the opposite.
Thank you for showing such massive choices of tones! I like mine so much, despite my beginners level of playing. Maybe lacking of "Reverb" would be one disadvantage for some playing, it makes also this amp so neutral enabling to play so many things in a small amp. Great demo!! Greetings from Hongkong!
Thanks for the demo. I just bid on and won of these on Ebay based on your review!Really like your playing at the end of the video too...picked up some tips there too! You're a clear guitarist to follow...if you see what I mean? Many thanks again.

I may add an external cab jack to it just to see if a bigger cab makes a difference ? It pushes 86 decibels for the 6.5 inch speaker. Maybe there's enough room inside the box for an 8 inch speaker ? I doubt a 10 will fit inside, just doesn't seem deep enough. Edit: A-Ha, the secret is to get the Crush 12 off the floor and pointed at your chest to in your face level. Much louder. How did you learn to fingerpick like that? I’ve been playing since I was 15 so right over 16 years but I’ve never really learned fingerpicking on the electric.
Want a nice practice amp, deciding between the vox pathfinder 10 and this one. Nearly had the 10 purchased and now I’m second guessing. Ughhh which one should I get?!
Curious, I am into a lot of Death Metal of the sorts. I was wondering if this is the right amp for me. I am just getting into playing the guitar, but I already ordered the Crush 12 as my starter amp. Will I get those heavier tones, or will I need to get a pedal to get those sounds I'm looking for?
Can the amp be used for it to be more quiet (without the headphones)? I wanna be able to play along to my favorite metal songs without the neighbors really being bothered.....
Have you tried those new Boss katana amps yet ? They seem to be the new big thing for modeling amps, but now i have to decide wether i want that or an Orange crush 20, i do like the idea of having a more basic amp that just sounds great.
Hey Dave, did you use any pedals in this video? Just bought this amp and it doesn't sound comparable to yours when turning the overdrive past 12 'o clock.
Was about to get a fender frontman 15g and came across your video. Man, the SRV tone you achieved - anyway, you had me at hello. Getting an orange crush asap. Thank you. Any suggestions on the settings for playing Sultans of Swing?
I would recommend the Fender Mustang modeling amps if you really want a versatile, powerful practice amp. But this Orange 12 sounds fantastic too if you're going for just clean to blues to hard rock sounds. if you want the SRV sound, get yourself a Tube Screamer and/or Blues Driver pedal as well and run it thru a clean channel and EQ.
hey man, i play most of the time in lower tunings (Drop B, C sometimes drop D) would this be a good amp to play, say, slipknot? the clean sounds great but the distortion is kinda hard to tell if it'd sound good for low tuned metal song
Get yourself a metal amp: high gain! Peavey Vypr, Line6, or Marshall. if you're gonna play metal or death metal or speed metal, etc., modern, you need a high gain amp and preferably get yourself a good metal OD pedal as well. A Boss Katana 50 would do ya too, but then you have to run it via the PC and mess with the software.
Just bought this amp. And my god your tone is amazing!! If you dont mind sharing, what electronics do you have in that strat? I have the Paul Gilbert Dimarzio Injector set, which are amazing, but dont have quite the "pop" yours do.
I guess there's a reason strats have not changed much since the 50's. My verdict is that the tone is from the hands of a professional. Precise pick attack, efficient use of both hands, and we only hear the notes you want us to, no extra slop. Your playing is masterful. You've got a subscriber :)
I got the Boss Katana mini and hated it, no power at all and it sounded terrible. Thin. Blecch! I got rid of it. I ended up buying: the Vox Mini G2 which is fantastic, a Blackstar 10 watt IDCore, fantastic for OD and crunch sounds, and, the Vox VX50 50 watt modeling amp, which is really my pride and joy now. The latter Vox has any and all amp sounds I could ever really need, playing at home, and has power to burn. But I love all the other ones too! I may buy an Orange 12 also just for kicks cause this sounds damned good. I love smaller amps at home because I'm not playing out live...just learning and teaching myself at an intermediate level.
Hey mate! Love your playing and I thought I'd ask you for advice here :) I'm considering picking up either a Crush 12 or a Micro Crush. The aim is to be able to play at home, possibly without headphones, so the Micro seems like a better choice as I'm in a condo, so I can't really pump up the volume and I'm afraid the tone would suffer from playing at, like, less than half volume. However, I was wondering - would the Crush 12 be any good for recording in a proper studio? Because if that's the case (not sure as I always used 50+ W amplifiers in the studio), then it might be worthy to spend a bit more for something I could use when I'm home AND, occasionally, in the studio. Care to share your opinion about this?
+Darian Howde. I would go for the crush 12 as it can go whisper quiet and still retain a good tone. Plus it has more options in tones. The micro crush is a brilliant little amp but only has a few tonal options. You would be able to use the crush 12 in the studio also as its a very versatile little amp and can go fairly loud if it needs to. :)
The settings I had are - Treble Mid Bass OD Gain 4 4 10 0 8 - Clean 1 2 0 7 8 - Overdrive 0 2 2 7 8 - Classic rock 0 0 0 10 10 - Lead tone Hope this helps. :)
Great review man, im about to buy this one for 6 month traveling on the boat for working purpose, this lil amp would be nice for traveling, and one quick question, what the last song u play, or u just messing around, great review btw
Hello Dave! Great playing as usual. This video is making interested in buying this amp. How is the volume of this amp compared a 15 watt amp like a blues jr? I have one and it's sound great, I just can't get that kinda clean fruciante sound at low volumes. I want to get this so I don't disturb the neighbours but still get good tone. Thanks for the videos, man!
Thank you very much. The volume on this can go very silent and still retain a great tone. Its not a overly loud amp from the get go. I can highly recommend it for quiet playing. Thank you again. :)
Hi brother I'm from Argentina, I love john frusciante and love your videos, recently acquired an orange crush 12 but I have a doubt that maybe you could help me, yesterday I put the volume in half with gain in 8, bass on 10 and played strong funky string riffs, I'm worried about damaged it, I did not imagined that with that size it could sound in high volume, it's beautiful! but normally I prefer play more low
It'll be fine. Having the volume up high won't damage it but you might find that after a while of having it cranks it may start to get warm and your tone might start to suffer. : )
The Crush 12 is my favorite Orange Crush. I've owned em all over the years and went backwards ironically. 35RT > 20RT > 12 with some other amps in-between. 100%.
Just ordered mine a day ago and I'm a bit unsure, but after seeing this video: This amp can do it all.
Got this for $89, fell in love with it. Tried the most expensive fender and a 100$ squire, loved it still.
Is it okay for beginners, and if I get the squier bullet strat?

Wow Dave , nice video . Cool little practice or recording amp ! Thank you.

Oh, and a Thin Lizzy medley?!
You, sir, RULE.
Thank you very much. :)
Just got one of theses for £45 my first orange amp 😁🤘🏻👍🏻
Great playing sir
Those P90's sound like they could do a little George Thorogood with an ES125 White Fang on the Tangerine 12.
3 days into this amp, it's anemically weak. Needs a boost pedal (Klon). Been trying to get out from under the soupy mud/blanket thrown over it sound, it's guitar pick sensitive for material & thickness. I recommend .81-.91 or thinner, celluloid material. Otherwise even a plastic 1 mm or thicker plectrum and the pick noise is too annoying, that's if you can tolerate a flubby duller tone. No wonder it was the Orange pack starter amp back in the day.
I was sitting directly in front of it, at foot to mid shin level. it's less than a foot tall, so ankle level is where it sounded weak. Now I have to find a way to get the Dave Simpson "SRV" sound out of it.

Thank you very much. The headphones isn't that bad but its not the exact same tone but its certainly not rubbish. :)
Would you recommend this or the 20 for a small practice amp? Any idea how they compare with headphones?
I would go for the 20 over the 12 if given the choice. The headphones socket is pretty good. :)

+Dave Simpson thanks a lot! I will put the Crush 12 on my pull list then :)
Keep up with your great videos!
Hi I know this video is old, but if you see this comm, can you tell me please if i can connect pedals to this?
You can!
how about the cabsim out for the direct recording? is it good? how is it compare to tech21 Oxford pedal for direct recording?
+Andri Bayuadjie I didn't try out the cab sim from the amp so I can't honestly tell you.
Im not good in english, so im not sure what you doing on volume overdrive and gain and treble bass mid are on 4 right ? thank you Dave
The settings I had are -
Treble Mid Bass OD Gain
4 4 10 0 8 - Clean
1 2 0 7 8 - Overdrive
0 2 2 7 8 - Classic rock
0 0 0 10 10 - Lead tone
Hope this helps. :)
thank you :)
are you satisfated with this amp? btw i like your videos
do you prefer this amp or a roland cube micro gx or marshall mg15cf
I prefer this amp. Its really really good. :)
Great review man, im about to buy this one for 6 month traveling on the boat for working purpose, this lil amp would be nice for traveling, and one quick question, what the last song u play, or u just messing around, great review btw
Thank you very much and i am just messing around at the end. : )
Hi! Can a looper be connected to this? I’ve been trying to figure out how to but I don’t know if it’s even possible 😰 Great video btw!!!!
Its possible yes. You have to run it into the front end of the amp though. Can be problematic but not impossible.
Very cool
Martin Lindquist Thanks very much. :)
Orange Crush 12 is on the way :)
Fidel Bárcena eu. Me estoy por comprar uno, lo recomendas? Ya que sos el unico en español jajaj
Muy recomendable amigo yo lo tengo y suena de poca madre
can you get a Green day tone for example the song Brain Stew?
You can indeed. :)
