Two and a half years ago we bought an abandoned Homestead in Portugal with a 150 year old farmhouse to renovate. First week on our Stone House Restoration Project
Your "looms" are definitely beehives. The wires strengthen the wax combs. You did so much work clearing the wood!!!! Saved by the rain - hope you manage to get some rest and recuperation. Hope your cat is feeling much better. This is so exciting xxx
So exciting! Also very moving to see you walk round and see the finished house in your imagination. Take care and pace yourselves. Thank you for letting us join you!
It has been a pleasure to follow your hard work. The love of both of them for work is clearly visible. Your cooperation and mutual understanding makes everything possible. Also give yourself enough rest so that you can continue. You are by far an exemplary couple when everything important is right.
Thanks for sharing another video with us. I can understand ur emotions. However i have 9ne advice for u; don't burn urself out overworking now. You need that energy and stamina to focus ur brain and keep overall control ( manage n supervise, mind energy) for your construction project. U need to be able to think without being physically n emotionally exhausted . I am sorry to hear that ur cat was not well. As for ur verandah, think of what u would like it to be when it is done. Maybe if it is a part of the project that once it is done it does not connect to the rest in terms of space used for the construction, maybe u can repurpose the space for "campaign" verandah with a relax space for u n to make coffee or tea n take a break
So looking forward to following your journey with the build and everything else your doing, all your hard work will eventually get your slice of paradise.
I like how you re-use the old fittings, those brass taps were made to last all they need is a overhaul and they're good to go for decades, that quality isn't made anymore.
Yippee! Looking forward to following the renovation work. You guys have done so much work on establishing a beautiful and productive garden in the last couple of years ensuring that everything will come together beautifully when the reno is complete❤
WOW! So much incredible, back breaking hard work! I have a deep admiration for you both and your determination and guts. Thank you for sharing. Wishing you a fruitful next week, with hopefully some nice pauses, and lots of success and progress!
Great start to your journey or at least this part of make ing a home for you looking forward to being with you on this Take care make sure you get me time as well please
Emotional! I shed a tear too! It’s very exciting though. Seeing that view from the kitchen, just lovely❤ Wish I was there to help and be part of this!! Spare bedroom is huge! Xx
Oh!
I am so excited to see the old house is finally being saved, or what you can use of it. And yes, you will find plenty of help to put those old bee hives back into good working order and have your own pollinators living on the farm. A local honey producer would be great to make friends with and it’s possible that they would help or take over the hives and you could get some of the honey in exchange
I watch you with glee! Huge challenge on your hands. Don’t let the stress where you down. Enjoy each other and the challenge. Thank you for this great show.
Good grief!! What an exciting time for you both…I was quite emotional looking out at the view from that widow….how beautiful!. Try to pace yourselves with the work load, I know it must be so exciting but you have to take care so that you can enjoy the fruits of your labour at the end. Looking forward to watching this project develop…love and hugs from Kent UK ❤❤❤
How exciting for you! Finally underway 👍. I know everyone is different, but we have found being away from our build for extended periods has helped with reducing anxiety and stress. Especially when the Portuguese builders start doing things the way they want to do things which isn’t quite what you wanted! 😂😂😂
You amaze me how strong you are. Your energy is inspiring. I’m delighted for your excitement at the start of your build journey. Can’t wait to keep abreast of all the developments. Love from Ireland 🇮🇪🩷🇮🇪🩷
Wow, what a stunning view out of that window that you hadn't been able to see out of before...all the firsts. No one can call you guys lazy that's for sure. That was a lot of wood planks to be moved. I'm be tempted to get a young lad or two and pay them a few euro to do the odd heavy lifting jobs! Maybe I'm lazy! Good luck with the whole build, it's so cool to come along on your journey. 🙂
Gratulálok a kitartásotokhoz, az erőtökhöz, a bátorságotokhoz, hogy egy ilyen nagy munkába belevátok a nagy kert mellett! Sok sikert és jó egészséget kívánok nektek!
There will be something to do everyday of everyday for the long future with the land & Buildings you have. Bloody awesome, God bless you both, I love your story❤
Excited to see your build start, only found your videos just before Christmas. I am going to enjoy watching you both moving forward on this build. Lots of hard work for you both by the looks.
Your view is lovely, and I understand your emotion at seeing it for the first time. Thank you for sharing that moment. When my daughter and son-in-law built their new house, my daughter went over every couple days in the evening. She filmed all the wiring in the walls and the plumbing, in case they needed to redo or remodel in the future.
now that you're walking through I can see that the place is HUGE and ... I hope you included a nice terrace upstairs in the plans. MUST HAVE A TERRACE 🙂🤩
Just found out dahlias are edible. Looking at the ones you lifted I can see they would make quite a decent sized meal! Loved that you were able to reuse/repurpose items like the taps and the mattress. Excited for you both, looking forward to next episode. Hope the cat is ok. Regards from Australia 😊
I’m so glad you have hired in help. I believe that you will come out on the other side of this project with your health intact. That’s not always the case with the remodel. I was very touched by your emotion on the veranda. It’s amazing to see your dreams come to life, but it also is bittersweet for the endings. Congratulations to you both!🎉
The stone house is beautiful. The stonework is amazing. I do love that balcony, sitting there and enjoying the views with a bevvy of choice. Are you altering the foot print? You said something about it being that last time you would sit there. I would keep as much scrap as you can. It can come in handy. Kisses for the kitty🙂👍👍🇨🇦
Some people say that moving house is the most challenging thing you can do - whereas in fact taking the roof off your home is probably more stressful. I think you guys are resilient enough to deal with this, but do remember that this is for the best, in the longer term. The destructive, demolition stage is the most frightening in any building or restoration project. Thanks for sharing the process! PS. Great time lapse section.
How very exciting, the view from the window was beautiful. I can't believe how hard you guys worked moving that wood. I bet you both slept well. Can't wait to see next weeks progress. You are going to have a spectacular home.
Checked with my Hubby, the Bee expert, he said they'd put wax on the string and it will dip and the honeycomb will look more natural looking like those in the wild.
Ah, it's so lovely to see your delight and amazement now the build is happening, and the pace of it! They don't mess around! So glad you could replant those Dahlias, I do love a pom pom dahlia! Just think, you'll be able to have beautiful cut flowers in your kitchen with that gorgeous view, drinking coffee looking out at the mountains, just as you did on the verandah every day. How lovely! 🥰🫖☕
Hello!. So happy for you. What a milestone! You likely know this trick but it was told to me decades ago and worth repeating: A happy crew will work hard for you. One way to show appreciation is to clean the work site after the workers are gone, remove the rubbish, sweep the floor etc. The crew comes back the next morning to a clean workspace and will be invigorating. Also When we did some major renovations, once we knew there routine we would prepare tea or coffee or just biscuits just before their break. I hope you do not mind my "invading" comment. 🙂 Hahaha, all the good ashes from this bug invested wood pile, maybe can be used for "abono"? No stacks of money in the mattress? I am not sure about that...
I am very excited for you guys!! What a journey and what super starts you are!! Keep strong and soon you will be in your new and beautiful varanda enjoying your lovely view.
Out with the old , and bring in the New. So glad to see these old decaying houses being renovated . In the days of my childhood, Portuguese houses were just for shelter , for the family to gather and eat together . I agree with you , the view out of that window is "Wow", as a child , I also used to stand at that window and admire that view of the landing down below and the back of the property. Keep up the Great Job .
Amazing that you elderly people dare to start a project like this. You are very courageous and energetic, wish you all the best and a smooth going project🏠🌞
❤❤❤❤They are my favorite duo, I admire them so much, what will they have, how much wood was burned! Maybe it will be used to use the ashes for fertilizer? Blessings in this new stage!
Your "looms" are definitely beehives. The wires strengthen the wax combs. You did so much work clearing the wood!!!! Saved by the rain - hope you manage to get some rest and recuperation. Hope your cat is feeling much better. This is so exciting xxx
Yes, hive supers. Where the honey is stored for you to harvest....🐝🍯🐝🍯🐝
Yes, so used to looking at commercially made hives with honey and bees in them! 😊😊
Dan did say they were bee hives. We also have old cork beehive. The rain didn’t save us from the work, but we couldn’t film. A long wet day.
,👍
The stone masons who built your house were master masons. So beautiful. It looks like you have a great team to do your build.
We’re delighted with the team. Our walls are so straight and beautiful.
This is so exciting, seeing the rooms open up, knowing you are finally on your way to having a beautiful place to live!
It really is!
There are million dollar views from those windows
So exciting! Also very moving to see you walk round and see the finished house in your imagination. Take care and pace yourselves. Thank you for letting us join you!
Thanks so much! 😊
👍
Well done on getting started, and doing all that hard work. Hang in there….you have a huge online community cheering for you🤗
That’s really kind of you. We appreciate all our community support. It really spurs us on.
It has been a pleasure to follow your hard work. The love of both of them for work is clearly visible. Your cooperation and mutual understanding makes everything possible.
