The set screw in my Lefty GX1's Gotoh bridge post was never set and the posts were loose as well. It's a small thing, but it's a thing. It's a great guitar for the money.
Very, very cool. Funny thing about "fame" - one never knows what crazy idea they'll become famous for. Their headstone may read, "here lies the silk sock guy." Hopefully we hear some Jake E. Lee riffs from this axe!
I agree 100% with what you said about the GOTOH 1996t trem! it is like the best of the Ibanez original edge and the german floyd in one trem! I was a floyd rose or die player for years until i played a GOTOH 1996t. it is my #1 choice. The fine tuners action is like velvet! Great bridge!
Well, now you are part of a very elite circle of guitar enthusiasts with just 50 made. Congrats to you my good SIR...and youre also probably banned from buying any more badlands guitars ;) a little bummed out about the shims in there, but that is how it was done back then I guess. No angled neck pockets from the get go. I think the Tone King said as much, hence the clunky heel and decked floyd. I would have thought they went for more of a vintage strat shape rather than the dinky body thing, again early 80s, but the finish is ace. Why dont they do this stuff today. From rummaging around old charvel websites I found a custom graphic that resembled that from a certain credit card / bank institute at that time, cant remember the name tho. That was the first thing this graphic reminded me of. Very cool.
I don’t think they would ban me from buying another one. I will say it is nice to have it. It’s a very sweet guitar! Don’t let the shims bum you out. Most guitars have some sort of shim in them. Usually it’s disguised as a cute piece of paper with the company logo on it. The shims mean absolutely nothing when it comes to quality. You could see they didn’t phase me at all. The body feels too big to be a dinky and actually it feels kind of like it’s own shape. Obviously 80s inspired but the lines of the body aren’t exactly a match to anything I’m used to. Perhaps a gunslinger as I don’t have a ton of play time with BC Rich, but again, not sure. I’m definitely very glad to have this guitar.
Excellent job…I have a 1996 gotoh and I don’t bother with those little set screws and it works just fine…I snug’em a little just so they don’t fall out…rock on my man👍
The set screws are often not “set” as most people don’t realize they’re there and people have been known to turn the bushings trying to adjust the posts damaging them. Honestly the locking screw is kinda overkill anyway imho
Blue paint era tape over your pickups saves so much hassle. Then if you want you can just slap more blue tape over the tame the steel wool is stuck to and it can’t get anywhere. Plus blow it off or vacuum it off instead of wiping it off if you didn’t know those tricks already.
@@REXYLAB the tape over tape is a mega good trick, a lot easier than trying to fold it over like an envelope whilst removing cheers sir Never thought of vacuuming, that would be a hell of a lot cleaner and easier than the brush, also less likely to end up going everywhere, would just a normal attachment do the job? Cheers again sir
@@AnimalJohn85 personally I like to use the brush attachment. A word of caution, wiping the steel wool that has made a mess all over the place creates small scratches. It is definitely better to vacuum or even blow it off. Another word of caution, if you use an air compressor you’re fine. If you use canned air, like duster that’s fine but it can get cold enough to make your paint fragile and crack. So use caution but definitely use these tricks!
dIn one show, Phil said the place making them had them sign an NDA. Makes me think the place is doing something shady or skirting labor or OSHA regs. My issues are the talking about it being era correct. I grew up then and they're just picking and choosing what they want to include. The Gotoh is awesome, but it didn't exist then. Also, the layout of controls wouldn't have been like that then. Sorry, but the builder should know how the Gotoh works, especially if they use them on more than this project. The Kahler was used a lot in the early 80s. Again, would be more period correct if they used that.
