- Eric replaced the after-market trailer brake controller on the 2020 Ford F150 with an OEM controller that fits into the dash. It didn't go "without a hitch", but he overcame the issue and it was a success!
For the guys with the center shifter, (not the column shifter) you need to remove the center trim piece by prying straight up. It is locked with the vertical piece that holds the brake controller. Took me 15 mins of yanking to figure out. Hope I can save you some time. Cheers gentlemen
Was the blaring music needed?
local Ford dealer didn't have the skill to increase the power to the trailer brakes from the controller. I did it myself.
How do I get it to not say trailer brake module fault??
I think that could be several things including bad wiring or a bad connector. The one we installed in the video did not not have that message displayed. Are you still using the in-dash module? I read somewhere that if you install an aftermarket module it will display that message. If your truck did not come with the in-dash brake controller it may not have the fuse installed. On my model it was slot 24 but you can check your manual for the position for your module. Hope this helps.
@@whataboutbopp I had to install a 30A fuse in Fuse slot 24, and that message went away. I borrowed one from the wiper slot for troubleshooting
How do I get a brake controller from the Ford website
I’m not sure but I would imagine you call a local dealer to help with that. I bought a knock-off from the internet and I would recommend a genuine Ford part.
Wish forscan was mentioned far before 4:30 in
Don't need to remove the trim under steering wheel
True, if you didn’t already have an aftermarket control mounted below the dash previously. To connect the aftermarket controller, I had to remove the connection behind the in-dash spot so to reconnect that I had to remove that panel. Good catch! I don’t think I explained that very well in the video.
@@whataboutbopp oic what you had. The 2022 has a 2 peice radio cover I removed the bottom also then realized I didn't need to. Going to hook forscan up later hopefully 2022 f250 is available
