Shouldve been brought back from time to time....instead of just drove off and forgotten....Without Coy n Vance, The Dukes wouldve faded, granted Nobody could replace Bo n Luke.....But, nobody was trying to...
I wish they had teamed up with both Scheider and Wopat for an epic showdown with Hogg and Roscoe in the episode that had both Bo and Luke returning, but alas both Coy and Vance took off from Hazzard and were never seen again. Coy and Vance should have come back for the 1st reunion film done back in 1997. It would have given some better closure for their characters and it would have been awesome seeing all 4 of the guys together taking on Mama Max and her gang.
Vance & Coy kept the Duke of Hazard rolling when Tom & John went on strike. The show could had been cut short much earlier for Bo & Luke not to continue. I give Vance & Coy credit for keeping Bo & Luke's car seat warm including encouraging Catherine/Daisy not to walk out on the sitcom because of the sudden ratings going down hill. The Duke's of Hazard wasn't ready to fall apart over money disputes. Have some respect for Vance & Coy. Christopher Mayer died too young...he was a looker with those 80's beautiful big blue eyes & jet black hair. R.I.P.-Christopher Mayer.
@@andybridge9318 He died in his sleep of natural causes. And shortly before his death he had two brain aneurysms. Even though the hospitals flushed them out of his brain, there’s still a possibility that the aneurysms may have lead to his death. There’s not an exact thing online about it. Some sources say natural causes while others just simply say “disease.”
It must have been so hard for Byron and Chris filming that last episode, knowing that they were being unceremoniously cast off, never to be mentioned again. If the producers were fair they would have had the two "other" Dukes show up once-in-a-while for guest appearances whenever Bo and Luke need a couple of extra hands on thwarting off the bad guys. I actually liked Coy and Vance and believe them to be a part of Hazzard history.
For the chance these two had from the get go, Byron Cherry and Christopher Mayer did an awesome job. The ratings went down because of people like some on this comments forum who never gave them a chance. I commend them for standing up to the plate and taking the blows from bitter Bo and Luke fans who had to much hatred in their hearts. If it wasn't for these two guys, the show would have been cancelled before it actually went of the air! If there is a Hazzard County up where you are Vance Duke and you're riding around in a familiar orange car while singing Hallelujah, then you know you're home in heaven. Rest In Peace Christopher Mayer!

When I first watched Coy and Vance in 1982-1983, I didn't like them much at all. But as the many years have passed, I've grown a fondness for them. I was only 11 years old when they starred on the show. Because MR. Mayer died at such a young age, I was worried that he might have committed suicide. but I soon learned that he died of natural causes. RIP MR. Mayer.
Anyone who thinks this is sad, just wait for the passing of etheir Tom or John. When one of them die is when I will feel a shread of my childhood lost for good.
Florida '79 And God Help is all when it comes time for “Another” one to go. I almost shudder to think NOW of losing the rest of this cast. And to the people that don’t like what I’m saying here....IDGAFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!GFY!!!!!!!!

RIP Vance Duke. From your fans in 🇦🇺. You will not be forgotten. For Christopher Meyer family & friends, he was a good actor. Live long the Duke boys. They will live long in my heart forever.
They did a good job. They had the misfortune of having to replace two iconic characters. It's unfortunate that their jobs didn't lead to bigger and better roles elsewhere.

Is there any wonder why we live in a world of crime, and hardship when we have as a nation strayed so far away from God, as to rewrite our own standards as a nation as to what is good and evil. The government of this, and many other nations have turned a blind eye to what God put forth for all to obey. Both Coy & Vance should played on and off, as recurring cast, visiting the Duke clan. They were just as great as Bo & Luke, who started and were well known for.
Wow I had no idea he died. 57 is much too young. Does anyone know the cause? As another one of the kids who grew up in the late 70s and 1980s on this TV show I remember not enjoying the show as much without Tom and John, but still could not not watch it. Byron and Christopher kept it going and deserve credit.
I actually like Coy and Vance, I thought they should have been added to the cast some how. Reoccurring guest stars at least when they came in I didn't expect them to fill Bo's and Luke's shoes or cut the same trail. They had to do their own trail. I am sorry to learn he passed on so late, my belated condolences to his family and friends. I know that pain never goes away, you just learn to live with it. The hole always remains.

I was and still am a huge fan , but does anyone else wonder why it never showed them really do any actual farm work. I think the only thing they raised was that damn goat lol
I never liked Coy & Vance as Dukes. They just seemed to city to be country. I mean the roles were REALLY made for Tom & John, I think we can all agree to that. But that said, I hope there's never another movie or even worse, a remake of this classic show. The ratings BOMBED when Coy & Vance stepped in, just do the research or watch a documentary on the subject. Not saying they were bad actors, but in a Bo & Luke environment, they just didn't fit in. The ratings even said as much. So you would think THAT would be a lesson learned for the future, when they made the reunion movie or whatever ya wanna call it, with Jessica Simpson as Daisy & Willie Nelson as Uncle Jessie. I mean really? Let me make this clear. You cant redo or try & redo a classic show. It just ain't gonna work. Its not the fault of the actors, its just the fact that there NOT THE ORIGINAL CAST & fans can tell. Case in point, Coy & Vance & the ratings bomb. Besides, with Boss Hogg, Uncle Jessie, Lulu, & the great Waylon Jennings now gone, can you honestly believe that ANYONE could fill those legends? This is IMO one of those deals where its best to just leave well enough alone instead of embarrassing yourselves. And again, this is NOT a knock on the actors, its just that they just don't belong there. And once again, all anyone has to do is, look at the Coy & Vance experiment to see I am right on this. Besides, ratings don't lie. That's why they fixed John & Tom's contracts for, cos had they didn't, the show would of been canceled. That was even said in the documentary. And lastly, RIP to Uncle Jessie, Lulu, Boss Hogg, & Sir Waylon. Now I ask you, How can anyone replace that?
According to Tom Wopat in a interview about the show. the Contract issue proved one thing to the studio....the characters of Bo and Luke were the stars of the show not the General Lee. the Studio up untill then had thought the car was the star of the show. not the actors. and the studio was proven wrong. once Tom Wopat and John Schneider left the show. as for the actors who played Coy and Vance.....Tom had said they were decent actors but unfortunatley they walked into a no win situation...when they joined the show. it wasn't their fault and were not to blame.....fans wanted Bo and Luke and not Coy and Vance.. any actor who would have been hired as replacements would have had a hard time being accepted by the fans.
Astraldragon1 That was more or less what I said. If you also did your research, you would of found out that, Catherine Bach AKA Daisy was gonna walk to, but Tom & John told her not to, cos then the show really WOULD be canceled, what with 3 of the original cast members walking off the set. So she stayed on, till Tom & John came back. As for the car, no where in my previous post did I say it was the star of the show. lol All I said was, based on the ratings AFTER Tom & John left, it went to show that, Coy nor Vance were the answer, much like those God awful reunion shows weren't.. Like I said in my previous post, sometimes its just better off to leave well enough alone. Besides, like I also said before, with Uncle Jesse, Boss Hogg, Lulu, & Waylon now gone, your not ever gonna see this show back on with a new cast. And if you do, watch how fast they pull the plug on it. Sometimes, its best just to leave well enough alone. But it was a great show though.
I do agree with you Bryan, and it's a shame that it happened that way. I couldn't see anybody other than Bo and Luke front the show. Also, it's sad what's become of prime time TV. RIP Chip Mayer!!

"Even though he only briefly appeared on the Dukes(actually i think that he and Byron were just being used to get John and Tom back) he was very good, even though he had done a lot of other TV shows and films(before and after the Dukes) he never really did anything other than his brief role on the Dukes that made him made him stand out as a star, afterwards he did a couple of soap operas, some action b films,a lot of tv guest roles, but addictions got the best of him and he disappeared from the public, when I saw his obituary on the internet on Celebrity Deaths it was sad that a promising actor one of many over the years that Hollywood needed at one time and then just forget about later,Hollywood of today is different, filled with fake people who don't know anything about acting,Christopher could've been just as big as Cruise,Wahlberg,Affleck,DiCaprio, and any other sorry excuse for actors that are called stars today, they could disappear right now and I wouldn't miss them at all, sorry to be that way and to ramble but that's just how I feel,I pray that Byron Cherry did better,God Bless all that Hollywood mistreated over the years,God Bless."-😑.🌐☢🌐..
Shouldve been brought back from time to time....instead of just drove off and forgotten....Without Coy n Vance, The Dukes wouldve faded, granted Nobody could replace Bo n Luke.....But, nobody was trying to...
The two actors that took over the roles as the cousins, should have been giving guest appearances back on the show.
They were only hired on as temps while John and Tom renegotiated their contracts.
