Putting players on pace doesn't mean to much either. If someone plays 1 game and gets 2 points, they are on pace for 164 points... Kinda silly. If you can finish a season and help your team it doesn't matter what imaginary numbers you could've had
@@jtsmith1863 Thats kinda a dumb argument. I mean obviously sample size matters. But I would rather get 90 points in 50 games over 90 points in 82 games.
Lindros was probably the best player in the league for about 3 years (94'-97') but injuries and lack of support around him on those Flyers teams did him no favors. That 97' team was basically the LOD, Eric Desjardins and people like Coffey and Hawerchuk at the tail end of their careers. If he could've held onto that level of play another few seasons (by which time they were a better team around him) the Flyers might well have won a Cup.
Introduced to this amazing game by watching Peter Forsberg? Absolutely nothing better my friend. I was "introduced" to hockey by watching a rookie named Darryl Sittler. That wasn't too shabby back then. On a 12 inch rabbit-eared black and white television. In my dad's winterized hockey man-cave. Oh oh. Here come the tears.
I worked at a huge sports bar in Denver for many years and met LOTS of athletes in my time there, including a bunch of the old Avs players. The only time I was ever star struck was when I got to hang out with Peter and talk hockey over a few drinks. And this was the summer of '96, right after that first cup. Super cool and nice guy!

I honestly believe that Sakic had Lacroix in the background during that phone call, keeping quiet shaking or nodding his head to this stuff. The trade had so much of his flavor, he must have advised on it.
I can understand there being that many pieces for Lindros at the time, would have been not much different than trading McDavid or Crosby after they were drafted. For Sakic to get that many pieces for Duchene, an above average player, is pretty remarkable.
Roller Cain what do you think the Rangers could get for the #1 pick(Alexis Lafreniere)?! If they decided to move the pick or if Lafreniere pulled a Lindros?
Never was a big Lindros fan until this video. He brought one of the greatest moments in sports history with the passing of the cup straight to #77. GO AVS!!!
I am born and raised in Colorado and still remember the day they came to town, they moved 1996 miles to Denver in 1996 and brought Colorado its first major championship, thanks for all the hard work in the trade details of it.
Living through this whole trade tree in real time and watching the recap is quite remarkable. I hated the Avs, first because of Roy and then because of Claude Lemieux but much respect to Pierre Lacroix and the Avs front office for bearing more than enough fruit with what they were given and making the most of a bad situation with Lindross.
they were mostly built on their epic run of awfulness which some say was triggered by their 1987 trade of Dale Hunter... and from that trade they got a certain draft pick that became Joe Sakic!
@@lordhighexecutioner Very true as well. I wasn't really including the existing Nordiques/Avalanche franchise when I said that just what they added that got them to the cup, but you're absolutely right. All that stuff they got from the Lindros trade wouldn't have helped as much had that foundation from their run of awfulness not been there.
@@KevynKing well, the simple fact of getting in a massive many for one trade a player who was even better than the one received there... that alone is noteworthy and allowed them to get rid of Sundin for less than value... but getting Claude Lemieux ultimately... serves the purpose. Now... Pat Burns... had he not chosen to pick a fight over Lemieux's character in 1989 perhaps a 25th banner would be there in Montreal...

Can you imagine if they played without the center ice and two line passes, back then in Bure's time, like they do today. The lob pass over the top to a speeding "Russian Rocket". Unstoppable. Gretzky once said the player he regrets not being able to play with the most was Pavel Bure
Agreed, but Forsberg was better. Ask the defenseman who played in the 90s-bet they say theyd rather defend Lindros. But it's kind of splitting hairs, as Lindros was great,& well deserved HOFer. But without the injuries, he isn't on the short list of All time greats, Forsberg would have been.
@@paulchang4411 Stevens was great. But the West was so far superior to the East back then. Not even close. NJ was the 1 exception-great team. @@paulchang4411 You say that as if Sxott Steven's ended everyone's career? He caught Lindros a couple times with his head down, and so he had concussion problems. Would the same thing happen to Forsberg?
"That's a pretty good sign that you had some success when you get into 140 Stanley Cup playoff games with the same team." Me, Sharks fan: **cries in Marleau and Thornton**
It’s gotta be a bit bittersweet to watch him win the Cup somewhere else, but I’m a Detroit fan who absolutely despised the Av’s- and I was still happy for Bourque as a hockey fan.
Finally learned how the great team came about. Other than the Sundin transaction , masterful trade by the late P. Lacroix. Thoroughly enjoyed this great video. And the Avs just won their 3rd CUP!
Don't forget 2002. Forsberg missed the whole regular season, came back for the playoffs,& led the whole NHL in scoring-despite the Avs not even getting to the Finals. Having lost in 7 (but probably overachieved-even getting to 7) to the best team Ive ever seen-the 2002 Red Wings. 2001 Avs were the 2nd best team Ive ever seen. And because of the cap, we will never again see teams as great as those. No team today could beat either of those teams in a 7 game series. Even the 2000,& 2001 Devils would smash anybody today. Probably the '99 Stars also.
In terms of how much better they were than all of the other teams, absolutely. That's why we should all be grateful for the cap instead of the insanity that is MLB.
On one end, those stacked teams were outstanding. But they could only be so outstanding because there was so much scrap at the bottom of the standings. Racking up points was easier when you played against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Atlanta Thrashers or the laughing stock that were the financial disaster called Pittsburgh Penguins at some point. Now, we get to see a Cinderella team like the last place Blues somehow grind their way to win a Cup. It also makes a stat like the 16 years without a playoffs win in Toronto even more laughable.
@@estellegrignon Spot on. Well said. I was at some of those Penguins games in the mid-2000s, and they couldn't give tickets away. Announced attendance would be 4,000-something, but the arena definitely looked more than 80% empty. They also had no clue what to do with young talent at the time, which the "Chasing the Dream" documentary of the W-B/S Penguins at that time shows. Mike Yeo was an assistant coach on that team, and wouldn't you know it--they got better when he left, just like those Cinderella Blues. His success tends to be only in short spurts, especially as head coach. Minnesota perpetually underachieved, often struggling to make the playoffs despite so much talent. And I 100% called that resurgence of St. Louis last season if they would just fire him. I was honestly shocked he had such success in the first few months after officially replacing Hitchcock. Not that he's the sole reason, but after getting the Flyers PP back up to league average, they're 23rd of 24 postseason teams on the PP and 16th in GPG.
Well done to Steve, for the discipline and passion to sort out the web of trades, picks and implications. Kudos to those who helped making 41 minutes fly by. Epic work.
Mid 90s-mid 00's, Forsberg was the best player in the NHL, when healthy. Obviously he had a bunch of injuries, so he didn't have the resume of Sakic, Yzerman, Lindstrom, etc. But my opinion, when the Avs,& Wings got together-with an amazing amount of HOFers on both teams,& everybody was healthy-Forsberg was the best player on either team, but Lindstrom was a close 2nd. And Sakic,& Yzerman had better resumes.
Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I feel like Forsberg is one if not the most underrated players in the history of the NHL. When he was on top of his game, only a very few select players in the history of the game were on the same level, but he doesn't get enough credit for it, because of his injury shortened season (and maybe some pro canadian bias)
I became a hockey fan when Colorado got the Avalanche in 1995. I remember learning the rules of the game from the local newspapers and listening to games on the radio (not many games were broadcast). I didn't know the intricacies of the business side, but was astonished at the speed, grit and athleticism of the sport. This history lesson on how my favorite, home team achieved their greatness was much appreciated. I heard names I hadn't heard in years (decades? 😬) Love the Avalanche, loved the blood feud with the Red Wings, love those Stanley Cup wins! Hoping for another cup this 2021-2022 season! Go Avs!
Yeah, two Olympic golds, 1994 and 2006. In 1994, he made the game winning goal in the penalty shootout in the final. In 2006, he made an assist on the game winning goal in the final. He also won two world championships, 1992 and 1998.
I especially like the part about writing to Chris Draper in 2nd grade. As a Flyers fan, I wrote to my favorite player at the time Rick Tocchet (during his first stint in Philadelphia) as part of a 3rd grade assignment. Much to my surprise, Tocchet sent me an autographed glossy 8x10, and a very cool handwritten note in return. I would've been ecstatic to get anything in return, but the handwritten note was amazing, and extremely kind.
This trade is crazy, yall did great with this and damn thats a lot of details. Just saying as a Pens fan Lindros was amazing and I have a lot of respect for all the charity work he has done.
I don't comment often on videos, but this was absolutely awesome in the detail you folks got into. Also worth noting, shortly after his 2nd tenure with the Avs, Mike Keane was traded to the Canucks(17 pts in 64 regular season games), after which, they assigned him to the Moose, where he finished out his career, in his home town, and his # hangs in the rafters. Thanks for this tree, Steve. That was worth the 40 min.
Absolutely loved the Avs during this time. To see how all the names I knew playing NHL on PlayStation came to be a part of the team is fascinating! Insane original deal, but both teams scored big! Great video
I love being an avalanche fan. I was born on the day the baseball rockies played their first game and my dad always took me to opening day. The rockies put up 8 in 2 innings and my dad thought itd be good to see the avs, later that day Joe Sakic scored a hat trick against the oilers, the same year they won the 01 cup. My hat barely made it over the glass. Couple years later ran into Sakic in an outback steakhouse and got to relive that and get an autograph. None of that would be possible if it wasnt for my dad. I love you, always.
Dear lord the time and effort you all put into making this video is astonishing! Thank you for the work! Born and raised Colorado boy who just had a wonderful time experiencing history from when I was but a pup.
5:35 - Don't forget that in 1995 Lindros also lost the Art Ross Trophy on a _tiebreaker;_ he and Pittsburgh's Jaromir Jagr both had a league-leading 70 points, but Jagr had him beat in goals, 32 to 29.
This is definitely the greatest trade tree I've ever seen from you! The detail and time put in is massively appreciated and to see Jared Aulin mentioned is even better because of where he played last season!
Great job! Lifetime hockey fan and I love your enthusiasm and passion for the game. I pride myself in knowing a lot about the game and guys like you are just great to listen to because I can see that you also have extensive knowledge of historical hockey. Excellent!
An often overlooked detail of Avs history is how in 01, Tanguay was an absolute beast in the playoffs, particularly after Foresberg had to be taken out for the finals.
Very nice job Steve. Mississauga guy here. Lived in Denver 98 to 2005. Stanley Cups and Super Bowl championships! Sakic and Elway. What a great time it was... thanks for bringing back those memories. But hated Crawford and my blood is blue... Leafs fan forever.
Steve-- I wish you would have mentioned that Paul Stastny is Peter Stastny's son, maintaining the family/franchise link. Only reason this Texas Nords fan cared at all for the Avs.
21:39 - In fact that was exactly why Les Nordiques made that trade in the first place - they sacrificed Ron Hextall (who was apparently actually very dismayed at being dealt, as he'd gotten very used to living in Quebec after some early jitters) in order to protect Stephane Fiset from being claimed in the expansion draft. That was another weird thing that happened in the 90s, teams trading a goalie to protect another goalie from the expansion draft - when the Panthers took John Vanbiesbrouck in that draft? They took him from _Vancouver,_ to whom the Rangers had dealt him to days prior in order secure Mike Richter's future in Manhattan.
It’s funny, because everyone in 2017 had all the good players the Panthers managed to take in the expansion draft on their mind, which led to them overreacting and making a bunch of trades with the Golden Knights to keep it from happening, which of course ended up working even better for the Knights. Yeah I remember how crushed Hextall was when he was traded - he’d just bought a house and everything, and people in Quebec had fallen in love with his quirky, eccentric character. From a broadcast I don’t remember, with Quebec down by a goal late in the third: PxP: this must be the time the coach is thinking of taking off Hextall for an extra guy. Colour guy: or, you know, just send him up there. I’m glad it all worked out for him going back to Philadelphia.
Both amazing players. As a Pens fan...Lindros was a monster like we may never see again. He could do it all...name me another super star that would win MVP awards and would drop the gloves...and beat up McSorley. Never again.
This is the best trade tree video ever. It’s by itself a whole chapter of the NHL history. I was a teenager at the time of the trade and, as a Habs fan, it was scary but so much fun to watch!! I just checked and I still have the “photoshopped” rookie card Lindros. Congrats on the video Steve!!!
1. Rest in peace, Wade Belak. One of the greatest Saskatoon Blades ever. 2. While Wendel Clark never played a game for Colorado, he did do a Chunky soup commercial in an Avalanche jersey in the 1995 off season.
Aaron Miller was traded to LA in that Blake/Reinprecht trade. I'm almost 100%. And I wouldnt call the Avs a dynasty. But 2 Cups,& 6 WCF in 7 seasons, is pretty damn great. And the losses were pretty defendable also. Lost to Detroit in 6 in 1997, was basically the Cup finals. Avs wouldve waltzed in the Finals, as Detroit did. Then lost in 7 to Dallas in '99. Had a 3-2 series lead, with game 6 at home. Wouldve likely beat Buffalo relatively easy. In 2000, also lost in 7 to Dallas, though the Finals wouldve been a tossup with NJ. Then in 2002, against the best team Ive ever seen-lost in 7 to Detroit. The better team clearly won that series, but the Avs did have another 3-2 series lead, with game 6 at home. Had they found a way to upset Detroit, Avs wouldve crushed Carolina, as Detroit did. So I know shouldve/couldve/wouldves don't counts. And there's things that couldve gone different, the 2 years they won the Cup-as there always is. But the Avs were very close to making the Finals 5 times in those 7 seasons. (i dont count '97, as Detroit beat us in 6,& it wasn't really that close) And they were very close to winning 4 or 5 Cups in 7 years. In '99,& '02-Avs wouldve cruised in the Finals, but in 2000 it wouldve been a battle,& tossup, vs NJ, just as it was in 2001. Albeit, Forsberg presumably wouldve played in the 2000 Finals, he didn't in 2001. But we also had Blake in 2001 (a big deal), but didn't in 2000. And btw-the Matt Duchene trade just might end up rivaling this 1, although I'd still give this trade the edge right now today.
At first, looked at this video and was like:"Trade tree and 40min video??". But then I remembered, it is Eric Lindros we are talking about, and everything just made sense.
Awesome! Started watching hockey when Avs moved to Denver. I didn't realize how extensively this trade affected both of the Cup winning teams. Thank you!
I have an odd level of interest in this trade, as it wound up forming the core of a team I also have an odd apprecation for: the 1992-93 Quebec Nordiques; aka my mains in the legendary _NHL '94._ :P Sakic, Nolan, Sundin as the big 3; a killer slapshot in Valeri Kamensky, a great powerplay QB in Steve Duchesne; extra toughness in Ricci, Leschyshyn and Simon, and then a goalie with toughness _and_ great playmaking abilities in Hextall, my favourite hockey player of all time. (I even have a _Nordiques_ jersey with Hextall's name on it!) It was just a really great, underrated team they had that season, with a _52-point improvement_ on the previous year and a great promise for the future, even if it didn't seem like it at the time - the next season after dealing Duchesne, Sundin and Hextall they missed the playoffs entirely. But of course we know how that went for them... Maybe if they got past Montreal in the first round people would talk about them more, but alas...
Ya they were unbelievable on that '94 video game. I wasnt into the NHL much, til they came to Denver. But we always loved playing hockey video games.I remember hearing the news,& telling my brother-"isnt that the team we often used on NHL '94, that is so good?" Sure enough, we spent many days playing that, having no clue we'd soon have an NHL team,& not just any team, but a stupid talented young team, that just needed a couple trades,& a bit of experience.
So cheered to see this post! So here is some irony to add to your sentiment: I was a young kid growing up in COLORADO when I got a Sega Genesis and a handful of games. Among those games? NHL 94! That was my introduction to hockey, which became a lifelong passion. My favorite team quickly became the Quebec Nordiques. Needless to say, when I was reading the sports section of the paper in 95 and it said that an NHL hockey team was moving to Colorado, I absolutely flipped out when I read that my beloved Nordiques were moving to my hometown! (I was heartbroken for the city of Quebec, of course, and god I miss those beautiful Nordiques sweaters and logo) Anyway, I too have a strong nostalgia for that underrated 92-93 Quebec team. I hated that they traded Ron Hextall and Steve Duchesne so quickly, moves that, along with the Sundin trade, were absolutely asinine and idiotic. It worked out in the long run thanks to other moves, but man did they blow it with those three trades!
And now it is probably one of his christmas habbits, like watching home alone or that other movie where a guy falls from a buliding and another screams "yippikayeh"
Love the trade tree vids! All if the hard work to put these together is greatly appreciated! Growing up in CO the Avs introduced me to hockey and this video brought back some amazing memories! Thank you! P.S. #GoAvsGo
As an Avs fan, I can only say Same, Pro-Drew-ser, same. I was laughing basically the whole time. Also, not only was our first Cup winning goal a result of this trade, so was our second. The first two goals in Game 7 of the 2001 Stanley Cup Finals were both scored by Alex Tanguay. The final score of that game was 3-1. Finally, on the whole Dynasty thing, we won our division 8 or 9 years running, starting with the '95-96 season, so, yeah, I think that that counts as a dynasty.
Definitely not a dynasty lol. Dynasty's are 3 or more championships within a decade. The capitals won the division their division so many times before they ever won a cup, are they a dynasty? Lol
Winning a division is good, but not a dynasty now, come on. Truth is 2 cups is not a dynasty, and as an Avs fan,we should have had a dynasty. Detroit and Dallas and New Jersey were our equals therefore we were not a dynasty,as it was a toss up every year who would win. No such thing as a toss up in a dynasty
This was an amazing video! Thank you for giving us all these details! I’m a huge hockey fan but didn’t know about just how much an impact the trade had.
had to turn the vid off at that point as this guy doesn't even know Steve Duchesne..... and is trying to tell me about 90's hockey? how can anyone who knows 90's hockey not know who Steve Duchesne is? wasn't his name in every single one of your hockey pools for the whole decade? 82 points as a defenseman in Quebec ffs?.
@@lelouchvibritannia4028 but every other trade tree looks at both sides and heck they even mention who the other teams got in some of the trades and they had zero relevance to the Lindros trade. It was the year of the Rats. After allowing the second goal in game 3, Roy hid in the net to avoid all the rats....then said to himself...this is the last time! And he backed it up.
These trade tree videos are cocaine for hockey fans and they encourage respect for the games history along with an understanding of how a trade, or any other gm move, can effect the team/league for a WHILE. Love it.
Something this video reminded me of is the avs ability to draft an offensive defensman. Elliot was the first draft. Tyson Berrie was the second try, an improved version. And Makar is the finished product.
And he helped us get Rob Blake. No joke, just before the trade deadline in 2001, I had just won a free Av jersey the day before,& 2 Club level tickets to the game. I worked for a mortgage company,& the title company gave me tickets, for some reason. The jersey happened to be Deadmarsh. I already had a Sakic jersey, so I gave it to my wife at the time, who was a pretty big Av fan, but only knew our players. She didn't really know players, on other teams. So here I am, I think it was the 3rd period, I go to take a piss. They have the radio broadcast, piped in through the speakers, at Pepsi Center. I'm listening to the game, taking a pee,& the radio guy announces we just made a trade. Says we got Rob freakin Blake! There had been rumors, but none saying who we might lose. But I didn't even care. As long as we didn't give up Sakic, Forsberg, Roy, Bourque, or Hedjuk basically (& we knew we wouldn't give up any of them), I'd give ya anyone for Blake. Was sad to see Deadmarsh,& Miller go. But are you kidding me? We got Blake,& a promising, talented, young Reinprecht! And didn't lose Drury,&/or Tanguay. I was so happy, I floated back to my seat, to tell my old lady,& the surrounding fans, the great news! But the wife wasn't having it. She loved Deadmarsh. After Drury was her favorite player. And that was the consensus around us. Hardcore NHL fans were ecstatic. But the few casual hockey fans were not. They don't know who Rob Blake is. But they know Deadmarsh,& to a lesser degree, Miller. Knew Adam wasn't only a good player, but great guy. And here''s my wife, with her brand new Deadmarsh jersey, sulking,& drunk-the rest of the night. I just told her "honey, trust me this a great day for us. This Blake guy is a future HOFer. I love Deadmarsh,& Miller, good players both. But they aren't close to HOF,& the cherry on top-Reinprecht, will help us as well!" She wasn't having it, & you'd think it was my fault! As if I knew he'd get traded,& specifically picked his jersey to give her! I tried to tell her, that the Avs just went from Cup favorites, (maybe co favorites with NJ, but the Avs were slight favorites to win it, at the beginning of the season.) to prohibitive favorites. Hosted the All Star game,& had 5 starters. Blake would be #6. Little did we know, Forsberg would get hurt in the 2nd round,& suddenly it wasn't looking so rosey. But alls well that ended well. Sakic, & Roy were amazing. Blake was a fabulous addition. He, Foote, Bourque, Klemm, Devries,& Skoula formed 1 of the best defensive 6, I've seen in 25 years. And Ray got his Cup, Blake,& Reinprecht beat their old team in 7. But Miller,& Deadmarsh helped LA upset Detroit,& give the Avs all they wanted. And my wife soon loved Blake,& got a brand new, spanking Chris Drury jersey, after we won the Cup. I got a new #4 Blake jersey in 2002. And 2 years later, we separated, & got divorced like 6 years later. But now I'm married to a much better match for me,& (although she hates all sports, at least my ex loved the Avs-lol) I have 2 beautiful daughters of 10,& 11. My ex couldn't have kids. And now you know...the rest of the story.
Missed opportunity to mention Wendel Clark was traded by the Islanders to Toronto for the first round pick that became Roberto Luongo. So you could've included that and dunked on Mike Milbury.
I got the privilege of watching Lindros play against Ottawa when I was a university student. I was not a fan of him...until I saw him play. Imagine acquiring a player who scored at a 111pt pace and is a HOFamer. But you lost the trade
Not even just lost. Legitimately one of the most lopsided trades in NHL history based on how the rest played out.
They got spanked and embarassed with that trade, Lindros was amazing , but glass and hamburger for brain :(
Putting players on pace doesn't mean to much either. If someone plays 1 game and gets 2 points, they are on pace for 164 points... Kinda silly. If you can finish a season and help your team it doesn't matter what imaginary numbers you could've had

That 97' team was basically the LOD, Eric Desjardins and people like Coffey and Hawerchuk at the tail end of their careers. If he could've held onto that level of play another few seasons (by which time they were a better team around him) the Flyers might well have won a Cup.

That was really more of a trade forest. 😂
Lol
No, those are all branches on a tree...hence the name "Trade TREE"
A trade redwood
This is the one I've been waiting for. The Avalanche are practically built on this trade.
they were mostly built on their epic run of awfulness which some say was triggered by their 1987 trade of Dale Hunter... and from that trade they got a certain draft pick that became Joe Sakic!

In hindsight, Lindros for Forsberg 1-for-1 is already a pretty even trade. Nevermind all that other stuff O_O
True, they REALLY undervalue Forsberg back then. Or overvalued Lindros.. probably both

It’s gotta be a bit bittersweet to watch him win the Cup somewhere else, but I’m a Detroit fan who absolutely despised the Av’s- and I was still happy for Bourque as a hockey fan.
Everybody who is a fan of hockey was happy, even fans of other team.
we all did
I'm from Pittsburgh and I did too.
Great person and a great player.
100% agree
I would put the 2022 Avs up against that Wings or Avs team. Not guaranteed win but damn competitive.

Bruins traded a 1st round pick for Anders Myrvold & Landon Wilson. I think I'm gonna be sea sick
Eh...more like 98-2003.

This history lesson on how my favorite, home team achieved their greatness was much appreciated. Steve, 2 gold medals for Forsberg, making him a two time triple gold club winner
I would've been ecstatic to get anything in return, but the handwritten note was amazing, and extremely kind.

These are always so fun. This one is focused on that time when I first got into hockey (late 90's/early 00's) so this hits that nostalgia!
Steve--
I wish you would have mentioned that Paul Stastny is Peter Stastny's son, maintaining the family/franchise link.
From a broadcast I don’t remember, with Quebec down by a goal late in the third:
PxP: this must be the time the coach is thinking of taking off Hextall for an extra guy.
Colour guy: or, you know, just send him up there.
I’m glad it all worked out for him going back to Philadelphia.
If all Colorado got was Forsberg they would have won that trade.

Love it! Nice description of the trade and the rabbit hole 🕳 you went down to get to the end!
At first, looked at this video and was like:"Trade tree and 40min video??". But then I remembered, it is Eric Lindros we are talking about, and everything just made sense.
the longest video I've watched and enjoyed every second of it.
Awesome! Started watching hockey when Avs moved to Denver. I didn't realize how extensively this trade affected both of the Cup winning teams. Thank you!
I have an odd level of interest in this trade, as it wound up forming the core of a team I also have an odd apprecation for: the 1992-93 Quebec Nordiques; aka my mains in the legendary _NHL '94._ :P
Sakic, Nolan, Sundin as the big 3; a killer slapshot in Valeri Kamensky, a great powerplay QB in Steve Duchesne; extra toughness in Ricci, Leschyshyn and Simon, and then a goalie with toughness _and_ great playmaking abilities in Hextall, my favourite hockey player of all time. (I even have a _Nordiques_ jersey with Hextall's name on it!)
It was just a really great, underrated team they had that season, with a _52-point improvement_ on the previous year and a great promise for the future, even if it didn't seem like it at the time - the next season after dealing Duchesne, Sundin and Hextall they missed the playoffs entirely.
Yeah man, I always played with them too! What a lineup.
(I was heartbroken for the city of Quebec, of course, and god I miss those beautiful Nordiques sweaters and logo)
Anyway, I too have a strong nostalgia for that underrated 92-93 Quebec team. I hated that they traded Ron Hextall and Steve Duchesne so quickly, moves that, along with the Sundin trade, were absolutely asinine and idiotic. It worked out in the long run thanks to other moves, but man did they blow it with those three trades!

I loved Adam Deadmarsh. Tough as nails. His career was cut short unfortunately
But they aren't close to HOF,& the cherry on top-Reinprecht, will help us as well!"
She wasn't having it, & you'd think it was my fault!
“Childhood Steve doesn’t hold back!” 🤣
I got the privilege of watching Lindros play against Ottawa when I was a university student. I was not a fan of him...until I saw him play. Once he stepped on the ice, the whole tempo of the game went up 10 notches... and he crushed everyone that skated. He was amazing to watch. Glad I have that memory.
41 minutes of trade tree deliciousness! 😍🤤
Great job! Great video. As a fan of the Québec Nordiques, this bring back a lot of great memories...and Wendell Clark.
Lmao
"555 PIM"
Was that a mistake?
"NO IT'S THE 90'S!"
This was the single most fantastic non-game hockey-related video ever made! Go Avs!
Over 40 minutes, and they didn’t even mention that Lindros was traded twice on the same day.
"Blank, blank, I thought we had a deal", the media reported!
?
@@wileysells1279 That was Snider of Philadelphia who said that. It was believed the Rangers deal was going to be the one that would apply... but in the end the Philly one did. If I am not mistaken they would have got Kovalev instead of Forsberg, Vanbiesbrouk instead of Hextall... it was the same two F, two D, and one G arrangement... with the money and picks
I thought i wouldnt be as interested in these videos, ive sat at attention through two thus far and will dig into the rest!
Steve, you forgot how Quebec traded Lindros to the Rangers that very same day.
I'm from Oshawa and had the pleasure of watching Lindros play for the Generals in Jr. A (had season tickets every season he played). Let me tell you, it was like a man playing hockey with a bunch of boys. 6'4", 240lbs when he was 16 or 17 years old. He was a monster. Literally during a brawl in one game he fought AND WON against two guys at the same time. Oh and by the way he could put the puck in the net like nobody's business. I'll never forget it.
The 90s were awesome. I miss 90s (non-trap) hockey so much.
WELL DONE. I was a major hockey fan as a kid (kindergarten report card-"Elliott has a remarkable memory for hockey scores and statistics) watched the Leafs win the Stanley Cup, I'm that old and love this kind of thing-I moved to Israel when I was 20- unfortunately I don't know half these guys- but now I do
Big E was one of my favorite players
That was a masterful presentation. Strong work!
