Any places you'd recommend??
I would have to agree with the Eagle Caps. Not on the list, Strawberry Mountain Wilderness is very nice, flexible dayhike or expand multi day. Several lakes and easy water source much like most of eastern oregon, longer drives but like zero humans. While in eastern oregon, Anthony Lakes area has dayhiking to overnight stuff. Tons of Lakes. 2021 did spook more black bear than normal and wild sheep can enter the camp, 100% not fearful of dogs. Some wolf and cat tracks but no issues. Would like to explore more of the eagle caps from south side in 2022.
@@adventureswithsammy7154 This is awesome!! Been trying to kick it over to the Strawberry's but haven't got the chance yet.
@@ChadLubinski similar to eagle caps its a later spring/late summer as snow year to year can be an issue into June. 5k plus feet weather got its own timeline, I have snowshoed and postholed in winter up there only question myself with 2 feet of new snow overnight. Its a great area, maybe not summit visa of Eagle caps but rock cliffs, wild life and lakes. 4th of july to late Oct is best time imho. Be ready for colder nights. 5k to 7k is elev of most campsites. Solid mix of strawberry, Anthony lakes, Eagle Caps, starting explore the Miniam area *southwest side of Eagle Caps. Excitement, still a few months away.
Better than the JMT? That’s high praise!
